I wasn't saying that people should not be allowed to talk about it, on street corners or otherwise. My comment about it being unfortunate is that idle chit chat and comments such as "he looks shifty" can do immense damage to people's reputation in some cases. Just making a point, that was all.

There is a type of court order relating to the welfare of children which is called, I think, a "Mary Bell Order" (Mary Bell herself was a child accused of manslaughter in late 60's).

Under that order no mention can be made of the child in the press, or indeed any mention of the fact there is no mention, IYSWIM. Its quite interesting to watch how things are suddenly completely lifted from the news. There has been nothing whatsoever about Shannon Mathews in the papers for the last week or so and I will put good money on their being one of these orders in place. I do hope this is the case.

I think - might be wrong - that Bob Geldof got one for Tiger Lily after Paul Yates' death - that was what I heard.

If it is the case, that will be wht there is no information about what is happening to her now - papers will be in contempt to print anything about her, even tangentially. I think there are some exceptions, eg, when something like this relates to it in some way.

Am working Sat pm, but would be up for drinks at night....

Monkeytrousers · 02/04/2008 13:52

Cool! Will email you details.

Monkeytrousers · 02/04/2008 13:53

I know 2falls - me too!

LyraSilvertongue · 02/04/2008 14:02

If indeed he is guilty of having indecent pics on his computer, if they were of Shannon we'd never know because the press is not allowed to identify an abused child.
So the media would be allowed to say he'd been convicted of having indecent pictures of a child on his computer, but they would not be able to say those pictures are of Shannon (which they may not be anyway).
Btw i don't go round trying and convicting people randomly in my head because they 'look shifty'. But something made me uneasy about this particular bloke.

Monkeytrousers · 02/04/2008 14:06

Well there is no hint that Shannon was sexually abused. It says that she "survived physically unscathed". If this was a paedo ring of two fellas that wouldn't be the case.

LyraSilvertongue · 02/04/2008 14:24

Even if she had been, the press would not be allowed to say so.

sweetkitty · 02/04/2008 14:29

I was thinking yesterday what was happening with the Shannon Matthews case, poor little thing was missing from home for all those days for whatever reason then once found hasn't been allowed home with her Mum and siblings.

BBBee · 02/04/2008 14:40

good point LS - I'd not considered that.

assdoc · 02/04/2008 14:44

Sorry to hijack-

SueW, we've just had the Trojan porn thing appear on our pc. What is it and how did you get rid of it?

We got a terrible shock and thought it was something DD1 (13) had been looking at.

Does it come from internet explorer? We keep getting weird links and virus protection things that we don't want or need urging you to click on them.

Monkeytrousers · 02/04/2008 14:50

I think you get it if you click on a site Assdoc. So someone has probably been looking at some porn or erotica on your PC. That's how they get in.

You need AVG and spyware to get rid of it. Download the free AVG on the right hand side of th epage on this link

BTW, does your name mean you are a bum doctor?

SlartyBartFast · 02/04/2008 14:54

but
WHY
did it take so long to look at the home computer??????????

Greyriverside · 02/04/2008 15:18

Just a small point about Trojans. Many come from apparently harmless lyrics sites simply because lots of people will search for a song and get caught that way.

AVG is is good and I use it too. You may also want to get SpyBot here

Even without Trojans popups are a menace. The moment you see any image it has been copied to your drive so if it has an advert for Mistress Whiplash you have now 'created a copy'

edam · 02/04/2008 15:30

Mary Bell orders are very, very rare. I doubt one is in place in this case.

I dont know about him living with the abductor- but I do recall reading that he had been with the mother for approx 4 years.

nametaken · 02/04/2008 15:47

slartybartfast - good point about the length of time it took to look at the home computer. My guess is that the computers were taken from the home fairly soon after Shannon disappeared.

There could have been a period of time between Shannon going missing and the police taking the computer when the boyfriend deleted all his files (or he could have deleted them even earlier).

In the case of deleted files, the police have to employ specalist data recovery experts and this probably explains the delay.

SlartyBartFast · 02/04/2008 17:02

thanks NT

donnie · 02/04/2008 17:10

"he has that shifty, slightly inadequate look and manner that a lot of paedophiles seem to have".

Had to stop reading the thread at that point.Off the fucking richter scale.

Monkeytrousers · 02/04/2008 17:16

I think there are a whole raft of things that are a bit -strange- different about this story.

Just having 7 kids is unusual emough, by 5 different fathers is too unfortunatley. As is the fact that he started living there as a 17 year old.

It would make me go in real life not just on here. Not making a judgement, just saying it's a bit odd in my expereince

donnie · 02/04/2008 17:19

BTW Monkeytrousers your earlier comment 'down with any kind of censorship' or whatever seems something of an irony, given the context of this discussion. I am personally very grateful for certain forms of censorship.

tearinghairout · 02/04/2008 17:28

Agree with MT.

Just on the point about viruses, I was looking into going to Amsterdam for a few days, went onto hotel websites etc. then started to get XXX rated pop-ups. I hadn't looked at anything associated with porn.

Monkeytrousers · 02/04/2008 17:38

I was referring to freedom of speech Donnie, not illegal acts - put yer handbag down

SueW · 02/04/2008 17:45

assdoc I think I used Spybot and AdAware (that AdAware not Adware)

We use AVG and I also sometimes run checks at symantec.com using their online-checker.

And yes, you only have to accidentally click on the wrong link, or have a pop-up popup and that's it - image onto your computer.
