Is there anything sensible to read about Diane Abbott?

I quite like her.

She's a black woman who's achieved great things from a very working class background, including going to Cambridge. She's clearly not stupid, although there's been huge industry around making her appear so.

It seems to me an awful lot of "peoples' perception of her is bourne out of racisim and misogyny, though she's clearly made mistakes too.

Is there anything balanced to read?

You're really not 'out to get me' lolololol hilarious ... genuinely! When you've spent this whole thread calling me antisemitic!

I've not bothered to more than skim read this post And I'm not reading the next.

And let me give you some advice for free.

If you truly (which I doubt) seek to educate then remember that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar

I see you.

And I'm not playing any more.

EH!!

I haven’t called you anti-Semitic once.

In fact the only attacks on here have been from you to me which shows given the amount of posts you’ve had deleted.

You have skim read the post and are not reading the following which means you’re not interested in learning why you could be wrong. You never were - you just wanted to bait me so you could hit me with a ‘gotcha’ or so that I’d call you anti-Semitic. And because you event got your way you’re flouncing.

Whatever.

Keep supporting a racist if you like I am beyond caring.

Oh no, of course you haven't actually outright called me an antisemite!
That takes courage of conviction and people like you don't have it.

You just hint at it.

Yes, I had posts deleted because mumsnet thinks asking if you're autistic is akin to insulting someone.

I don't take advice or education from people who start the conversation as you did.

We can all see you. I know exactly the kind of person you are. You were NEVER interested in having a conversation about why anti-semitism is racism. That was never your motive.

BTW I believe you also told me to fuck off? Perhaps that’s why your post got deleted?

I did wonder why there are threads about your mumsnet activity on other forums.

Is there now! And what kind of forums are you frequenting that have an interest in me and why?

How am I a liar?!

No, they did ... it was just veiled but very clear. They knew what it meant, I knew what it meant.

Heard an interview with the incredibly "bright" Kwasi Kwarteng this week.

While it's fabulous that a black man has come so far in life, I despise his politics and think less of him for supporting Boris.

He did however sound very charismatic in this interview.

My point is people can be more than one thing. We don't have to like all of them.

I do think Dianne gets a lot of shit from right wing racists. She's clearly an amazing bright, trailblazing woman. Go Dianne! 🙌

Here's her DID episode:

You don't think this is calling me an antisemite?

Do you feel like she was describing you? Do you recognise your own actions and words in what she said? And do you feel that what she was describing was an anti-Semite?

Also, remember that time you posted a link to an article by Glamour Magazine and then denied ever reading Glamour Magazine? I'm wondering if that means you are a liar?

To be a liar and get away with it, you need picture perfect memory...

Humdingerydoo · 16/05/2024 19:23

@Sparetoes I wonder if maybe The Rest is Politics have ever done a show with or about her? They're generally pretty balanced!

This is so true, and I’m really not out to have people’s long career destroyed over one instance but I think as long as people still acknowledge the cock up and know what it is, and make their opinion after that.

I remember the time I shared a link to an article from Glamour mag that was shared with me.

I have not, do not and will not read Glamour magazine.

Is that clear enough for you?

If you listen to one James Blunt song, does that mean you listened to the whole album and went to all his gigs and are his top fan?

No.

One article does not make a reader of.

Ok so can we agree that someone not remembering every single word you'd written in a deleted comment isn't a liar? Just like you say you're not a liar?

Honestly, the fact that you even said in one of your previous comments that you hadn't even bothered reading what she'd written yet still kept arguing about it is pretty indicative that you're not overly interested in having an actual intelligent debate. You just want to shout abuse at someone who has taken issue with anti-Semitic comments made by a politician. Maybe just think about what exactly you're trying to defend before posting anything more about it.

Diane Abbott has no doubt achieved a lot of truly remarkable things. That doesn't mean you need to defend every single thing she's ever said.

I also resent the notion that anyone making fair and constructive criticism of a black woman must be racist or misogynist.

I don’t care what colour you are, anti-semitism isn’t ok

Interesting. To so many people anyone making any criticism about anything Israel does is called antisemitic. I guess it's a world wide problem.

I think you missed the key words "fair and constructive". Easy mistake to make! Any opinions on Diane Abbott and where to learn more about her?

So you are called antisemitic any time you simply express negative opinions on the Israeli government and nothing else?

Have you got some concrete examples of "so many people" doing this please? I'm not saying absolutely nobody does, but people are generally not doing this! It's just a pathetic trope now.

I certainly have experience of that, yes. Not every time of course, but you know that's not what I said.

See my post just above, @Hélène79
And of course there were plenty of threads on here a few months ago where that happened.

Edited

Were those the posts where people were going on about how they're anti-Zionist? If so, I've got some bad news for you...

Zonder · 16/05/2024 20:49

Not especially. But is being anti Zionist the same as being antisemitic in your view?
