God, really hope they're ok

NameChangingMancMidlander · 26/12/2004 10:33

Sending positive vibes for Lou and anyone else in that region

Sending hugs and sympathy to anyone who wasn't so lucky

GRMUM · 26/12/2004 10:34

My first thoughts on hearing this on the news was Lou and her family and some other friends of mine who have been living in Thailand for the past year. I do hope and pray that they are all OK. Having been in earth quakes here in Greece of a much smaller magnitude I can only say that it must have been an absolutely terrifying experiance.

merrymarthamoo · 26/12/2004 10:34

No reply to my text to lou. Does anyone know what time it is now in Thailand?

MI, hope your parents and other relatives are OK.

DelGirlsRingAreYouListening · 26/12/2004 10:37

no reply to mine either yet, assuming she has it with her of course. Imagine they must be about 6/7 hours ahead maybe, don't know.

sparklymieow · 26/12/2004 10:38

our friend is in Thailand as well, we are very worried

DelGirlsRingAreYouListening · 26/12/2004 10:39

they're 7 hours ahead

merrymarthamoo · 26/12/2004 10:40

God I hope they're all OK

GRMUM · 26/12/2004 10:42

This may be useful - The Foreign Office has set up an emergency helpline: 0207 008 0000

Hulababy · 26/12/2004 10:49

mobile reception may well be down - due to the weather and its after effects.

LIZS · 26/12/2004 10:52

Also if they have lost power, mobiles are only good for however long the battery lasts out.

Peckarollover · 26/12/2004 10:58

Just seen this, I hope Lou and her family are safely away from any danger

(((((hugs)))))

KangaSantaMummy · 26/12/2004 11:36

how often do mumsnetters hear from her by text?

Bandos the island in Maldives where we went is not very high out of the water so have no idea what would happen THERE IS no HIGH GROUND!!!!

The villas are only one level and so is the main building.

Even the airport is an island and so is the capital

The island is so small too I can't see how you would survive without being swept out to sea.

It will disappear into the ocean in years to come beacause of global warming All the people who live there will be homeless.

sending cyberhugs to everyone around the Indian Ocean {{{{{{{}}}}}}}

Hope someone hears from LOU soon

SuzyWongMerrilyOnHigh · 26/12/2004 11:52

quite a lot dead and injured on Phuket and Phi Phi

KangaSantaMummy · 26/12/2004 12:02

OMG

OP posts:
SuzyWongMerrilyOnHigh · 26/12/2004 12:09

She'll be OK, but the infrastructure of the areas has been damaged hence no power and no phone, let's just sit tight and cross our fingers and say a prayer for the poor wretches who didn't make it.

Gobbledigoose · 26/12/2004 12:31

OMG - hope Lou is OK.

I remember having, what I thought were irrational, fears about this happening when I was in the Maldives on honeymoon. They are so tiny and flat - you could walk across ours in about 2 mins so goodness knows what's happened to it

Everything crossed that Lou is OK.

Well, FWIW the island where Lou's family is now isn't one of the tiny flat ones. Hope that makes a difference.

Gobbledigoose · 26/12/2004 12:46

And has it been badly hit?

Oh, I really hope she, dh and the kids are OK.
