Some good news at last!!

OP posts:
WallOfSilence · 14/03/2008 19:33

emergency protection order

WallOfSilence · 14/03/2008 19:34

That link I put was for abused women, but the same principle applies. She will be protected.

I wonder if her mother will be allowed contact with her.

ernest · 14/03/2008 19:39

according to news they have been reunited, mother with her, but she's not allowed home yet

nancy75 · 14/03/2008 19:40

it did sound odd on the news that they had found her at 12.30 and on the news at 4 she had not been reunited with her mum.

Flight · 14/03/2008 19:49

I don't know what an emergency child protection order constitutes exactly, but it's sad that she won't be going home. I imagine she is considered at risk from somebody, but we can't know whom or in what context, so best not to speculate.
Just such a relief that she has been found

nickytwotimes · 14/03/2008 19:49

Poor kid and her family.

Flight · 14/03/2008 19:53

This is an explanation of the term.

I would imagine we will not be told more by the media, because this kind of thing will be in place to protect the child from intrusive attention and her privacy must be respected obviously.

I will keep her in my prayers whatever. I hope we can leave it now and hope she is being cared for appropriately.

Piffle · 14/03/2008 20:04

whatever it takes to keep Shannon safe. I agree speculation is distasteful re the EPPO.

Shaniece · 14/03/2008 20:15

Just read in one newspaper Shannon's step dad might have been physically abusive. Hasn't Shannon's Mum got 7 other kids? It's just, if there was any sign of abuse in the house, surely the other kids would have said something?

wannaBe · 14/03/2008 20:15

Very glad she was found alive.

not necessarily strange that she wasn't reunited with her mother for several hours. I would imagine that she would have had to undergo a medical examination, plus would have had to be interviewed before being reunited with any family, to ensure that her statement to the police could not be influenced in any way, ie in case she has run away and there are issues in the family that have contributed to this etc.

Kimi · 14/03/2008 20:20

Glad she is safe, this whole thing has been odd from the start though.

morningpaper · 14/03/2008 20:20

really pleased, you always dread the news when this sort of thing is going on

donnie · 14/03/2008 20:28

so please she is alive. I certainly didn't hold out too much hope - glad to be proved wrong though.

DforDiva · 14/03/2008 20:31

im so glad she found alive. thought there were nothing happening but obviously police were working hard.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 14/03/2008 20:35

Thank God for that.

geekymummy · 14/03/2008 21:00

reunited with family

Check this out:

"A 39-year-old man, named locally as Paul Drake, an uncle of Shannon's stepfather Craig Meehan, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of abduction."

3NAB · 14/03/2008 21:06

F-ing hell

UnquietDad · 14/03/2008 21:06

I thought the champagne in the street at 4pm was a bit premature and ostentatious really. We didn't know the whole story, and we still don't.

Shaniece · 14/03/2008 21:09

Don't know what to make of this story .

wannaBe · 14/03/2008 21:17

I imagine we haven't heard the last of this family.

although is it really helpful to name the suspect before he's even been charged with anything? after all, for all we know Shannon might have run away to him and now he's been tarred with the brush of abductor.

morningpaper · 14/03/2008 21:26

I expect the champagne was provided by Sky News

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 14/03/2008 21:37

HHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

RosaIsRed · 14/03/2008 21:37

But Wannabe, even if she did run away to him in the first place, he has been hiding a nine-year-old child away for three weeks while knowing that the entire country was looking for her - how is that not a crime?

wannaBe · 14/03/2008 21:41

and if that's the case he will be charged with perverting the course of justice. But there's a difference between that and abduction which carries all sorts of other connotations.

Not saying he shouldn't have been arrested btw. but naming him and his link to the family is just a bit ... . how long before accusations start being thrown at the stepfather again, even if he wasn't actually guilty in all this. people will assume that tecause Shannon was with a relative of his, he is involved.

FairyMum · 14/03/2008 21:47

Tis very odd though
