I actually like Russel brand . And I don't think he's ever hidden what he used to be in his heyday. He's always been very open about his drug use, and promiscuity.

I read his first book . I watch his videos on fb , and while I don't always agree with him, he seems to have totally overhauled his lifestyle, attitudes, is into yoga, self care, seems to be a decent husband and father .

Is this newsworthy ? Young famous comedian in heyday slept with lots and lots of women , consensually he says ?

Hes never hidden it.

On drug misuse I alWays had time for his views that it should be dealt with as a medical issue not a criminal one

What's the news story ?
I always feel like there is much glee and salivating before the media try and knock someone down.
I don't think this is a huw edwards where people would be shocked at him trying to pick up young women behind his wife's back

It seems that brand has settled down , lives a fairly mundane lifestyle and is happy with his choices .

Or am I completely missing something?

It’s also quite depressing how few of his peers have commented so far / condemned the behaviour. Even if they caveated it with “if true it’s disgusting” or similar, I’d hope that decent men who worked with him would have said something.

I can’t stand him. Always gave me the creeps and I think the whole yoga thing is a smokescreen he invented try to change his image. Slimy is the description I’d use 🤢

This 100%. A couple of his rant’s appeared in my Facebook video’s section. He took so long to get to the point I lost interest. He just uses a thesaurus fuelled word salad and somehow he is a guru.

'For goodness sake'? Scandalous stories about celebrities take up vast amounts of new coverage weekly and I am suggesting they are a distraction from the issues facing us. I'm making a serious point.

This isn't just some salicious gossip

It has the potential to be comparable to Rotherham and Saville.

As I said in my previous reply to you - I don't think it's silly or frivolous to want to expose instituional abuse, misogny and sexual assault.

I also said it isn't an either/or in terms of reporting this or on the climate emergency. I don't want my girls to grow up on an inhospitable planet, I also don't want them to live in a world where sexual assault is fine because of xyz.

Commentsonly · 17/09/2023 20:18

Never liked him. His rhetoric and ‘standup’ routines are misogynistic disgusting drivel. The way he’s talked about woman for years is disgusting. It’s not even at all surprising to me… he probably doesn’t think he’s even done anything wrong because he is that narcissistic.

SPLIFFSFOREVER · 17/09/2023 20:18

What's using a prostitute got to do with rape? I don't get what you mean by saying he used prostitutes without issue..what is the issue if a man uses the services of a prostitute? What are you implying? These women are not there to be blamed for whatever business a man is involved with.

Cookiesam · 17/09/2023 20:19

I found these stats on the Rape Crisis website. Hopefully, Brand will get the conviction he deserves. This isn’t salacious gossip; there is physical evidence. There is never an excuse for rape or sexual assault.

Yes I agree. That is the serious issue at the root of all these stories. But I wish it was raised separately in a way that allowed for informed discussion outside of individual cases. Abuse of women is absolutely a subject that should be high on any agenda.

SPLIFFSFOREVER · 17/09/2023 20:25

Just had another drag on my spliff thanks love, just watched the news and hes still not been arrested yet..so put your prosecco down carefully as you get off your high horse..

There is discussion today all over the internet about rape and the legal system, and about the systems that enable predators to thrive. Discussions which range far away from Brand the individual. Just as MeToo became a cultural movement that went way beyond Weinstein. Same here.

Totally this. And all these comedians go on rants on mock the week, the Last Leg, Have I Got News For You, myriad podcasts.

And not a peep.

It's Been said there is a superinjunction in place

MrsMummy500 · 17/09/2023 20:58

I don't really care if it's trial by 'the Mainstream Media'. The mainstream media has been rigourous in it's investigation and corroboration of sources. Unlike his tin foil hat brigade spouting out opinions online. Who would you rather take your information from? The fact that the incels and Andrew Tate have clamoured in support should tell you everything you need to know.

If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck - it's a b loody duck. Hiding in plain sight. Talking about his promiscuity like it's a joke does give you a get-out-of-jail-free card, as hopefully he will literally discover.

MrsMummy500 · 17/09/2023 21:01

*does NOT give you a get-out-of-jail-free card

Lalgarh · 17/09/2023 21:02

The Facebook comments on this are a shitshow and more than half of his most ardent defenders are women too.

Nannygoat151 · 17/09/2023 21:02

I always say that. Why wait 10 years before saying anything . He has never made a secret of how much sex he had but has now calmed down and is more a family man

LaDamaDeElche · 17/09/2023 21:09

Oh dear, are you a 13 year old Andrew Tate wannabe? Haven’t you got homework to do before school tomorrow? 🙄

He was bragging himself about an investigation he faced for date rape in 2006. But. Nothing happened. So many women who this would also happen to quite reasonably wouldn't put themselves through the anguish of reporting.
Do we have to keep pointing this out

nutmegnook · 17/09/2023 21:32

Does anyone remember when he was sacked from bbc with Jonathan Ross (I think some years ago) for leaving inappropriate messages on the answerphone of the granddaughter of the late Andrew Sachs? Might be wrong I'm sure it was him

battgirlatheart · 17/09/2023 21:46

I know a few people who worked in the industry and one who was so traumatised she left the industry
it’s very real
I knew this years ago
Sarah Marshall film days

Not attacking victims or defending RB. I don’t know him but he like every other accused person deserves a fair trial by jury and not trial by mumsnet.

It's all very well saying that, but if the cases eould never have got to court, where is the ' innocent until proven guilty' then? Prince Andrew is hiding away on the Windsor Estate refusing violence even ge questioned as a witness. He's also ' innocent until proven guilty' despite consistently avoiding any kind of legal scrutiny. The inky chance of this going to court is this expose. Brands lawyers were asked for exonerating evidence they claimed to have. It was not forthcoming.

You are right and that was a shocking thing. I remember watching the video and it was clear RB was clearly encouraging JR to do a horrible thing. JR was older and therefore more mature and should have known better but RB was strongly encouraging him.

Yes, that’s largely been forgotten about when it comes to JR, hasn’t it?

Yes it's covered in the documentary.
