I actually like Russel brand . And I don't think he's ever hidden what he used to be in his heyday. He's always been very open about his drug use, and promiscuity.

I read his first book . I watch his videos on fb , and while I don't always agree with him, he seems to have totally overhauled his lifestyle, attitudes, is into yoga, self care, seems to be a decent husband and father .

Is this newsworthy ? Young famous comedian in heyday slept with lots and lots of women , consensually he says ?

Hes never hidden it.

On drug misuse I alWays had time for his views that it should be dealt with as a medical issue not a criminal one

What's the news story ?
I always feel like there is much glee and salivating before the media try and knock someone down.
I don't think this is a huw edwards where people would be shocked at him trying to pick up young women behind his wife's back

It seems that brand has settled down , lives a fairly mundane lifestyle and is happy with his choices .

Or am I completely missing something?

I'm not a fan of trial by media. The findings of this investigation should have just been handed over to the relevant authorities to seek prosecution.

RafaistheKingofClay · 16/09/2023 22:28

How much are these women being paid?

Nothing according to the Times article. Fair play to the journalist for including that presumably because she predicted the response.

Be interesting to see what claims they couldn’t print because they couldn’t get it past their lawyers.

JamSandle · 16/09/2023 22:28

Quirkyme · 16/09/2023 22:26

Erm. You need to cut this male acquaintance out of your life tbh. Start with that.

No grown adult, let alone a man at that, should be asking a 6 year old this.

Like sorry but you need to take responsibility and protect your daughter and yourself from such people.

This isn't a giggling matter.

I agree. I wouldn't dream of saying such things to any of my friends children.

LaffTaff · 16/09/2023 22:28

Perplexing piece of television. Russell Brand has admitted and owned being an incredibly flawed character in the past, with serious addictions. This program is (I think) an expose built on his own admissions. Goodness knows how this will unfold, however I personally don't think it should've been aired in the absence of any evidence against him.

Mirabai · 16/09/2023 22:28

Throwncrumbs · 16/09/2023 22:27

He’s always been grim, not in the slightest bit good looking and dirty in every way. If he wasnt famous, no one would glance at him twice.

Totally agree. He’s always been sleazy and ick with weird hair. I could never understand why anyone found him attractive. I thought he was mildly funny though, and lately less annoying than he used to be.

Lastchancechica · 16/09/2023 22:28

MouseMinge · 16/09/2023 22:24

@Lastchancechica I'd far rather that they didn't either but the fact of the matter is that the media is full of those people. My question was why the BBC, why not Channel 4, why not every media outlet that brushed it under the carpet. I'm not sticking up for Brand but the BBC has had very little to do with his career so it's a bit much to suggest they should be dismantled because of a person they've had very little to do with.

What are you talking about. The bbc hired him KNOWING full well he was a predator. They even tried to put safe guards in place!!!! But you can’t safe guard against men like this.

WE paid for this unwittingly, how does that make YOU feel as a woman?

I am cancelling my license fee tomorrow, I have truly had enough.

Solidarity to the survivors 💪🏻🙋‍♀️

CornishGem1975 · 16/09/2023 22:28

Well there is that @RedToothBrush but it's even less likely now.

monsteramunch · 16/09/2023 22:29

@Melly78

I have a DD. She's 6. I have a male acquaintance who often asks her, "Have you been snogging boys recently?" And I'm always too shy/polite to say anything. I think I even smile/giggle when he does it. Because it's so awkward. And I call myself a fucking feminist.

Please, please stop this.

Next time say "that's a really strange thing to ask a six year old" or "you know she's six, yes?" Etc.

Call him out. It's a fucking creepy thing to say and he's saying it to your daughter.

You saying nothing / smiling / giggling is (in her eyes) normalising her being sexualised by men from the age of six.

Please try to resist the urge to give in to our 'don't make a fuss' programming and make HIM feel awkward, not you!

masking123 · 16/09/2023 22:29

Imagine bending yourself into a pretzel to defend this grease weasel.

To those saying it should have been reported - have you learned nothing from these cases? Things do get reported, but they get swept under the rug. Savile. Ian Watkins - the man assaulted babies and even when presented with proof the authorities gave no fucks.

I reported all three of my attacks and nothing was done. All three are off living their best lives. Absolutely pointless to even bother raising your voice when the ones meant to protect you won't lift a finger to do anything about it.

Southeastdweller · 16/09/2023 22:29

I suggest that the apologists on this thread read The Times article linked on page 1. There's been a thorough three year investigation about him.

Melly78 · 16/09/2023 22:29

@Quirkyme You're absolutely right. And I will.

blebb · 16/09/2023 22:30

How much are these women being paid?

@BeenThereDoneThat101 How much have they lost due to living with the trauma of sexual assault? How much more trauma have they gone through by re-experiencing the event through trying to get him held to account?

Girls & women aren't trying to get themselves sexually assualted for profit.

This thread is as depressing as the last!

BananaSpanner · 16/09/2023 22:25

I wonder what is actually going to happen next. He’s self employed. Doesn’t look like anyone is going to the police. So now what?

Sadly, I think the rapey fucker will continue to enjoy his £16m fortune. I’m not sure that his poor wife and small children (plus the one yet to be born) will have such an easy ride of it because his inappropriate behaviours will be projected/reflected onto them.

Abouttimemum · 16/09/2023 22:31

ballsdeep · 16/09/2023 22:18

He is disgusting. Even before these allegations came out he was vile. The way he speaks about women is abhorrent . I’ve never watched anything he is in because I can’t stand him so I am shocked watching this that he was celebrated 🤮

I agree entirely with this. He’s fucking awful, the way he treats and speaks about women is vile. I’m glad this has happened actually. It’s really the only way people like this will ever be brought to task for disgusting behaviour.

MouseMinge · 16/09/2023 22:32

I get that they were showing a lot of his public performances to show how he was was hiding in plain sight but there was a bit too much of it and it was easy to miss some of the more disturbing stuff - not just the rapes/assaults but the shutting down of victims - that was more important.

It's sad that a lot of people think that this is a "witch hunt" but that's the world we live in I guess. I read that at his gig in Wembley tonight the crowd cheered him when he came on. It's no wonder he thinks he's untouchable.

RocketIceLollie · 16/09/2023 22:32

verdantverdure · 16/09/2023 22:29

Like they were with Savile?

I understood the problem there was the BBC kept it internal rather than the authorities not acting on alarm bells.

SwiftieGrainger · 16/09/2023 22:32

Brand is a cunt. On a school trip many years ago a friend who idolised him sheepishly walked up to him in Camden Lock to say hi. He was clearly a teenager and he responded 'I'm on the FUCKING PHONE'. A human about as vile as this thread. Why are we victim shaming and so inclined to excuse away women's experiences? No smoke without fire and all that.

Mirabai · 16/09/2023 22:32

Please tell me that next time you will say “wtaf are you saying to a child - super inappropriate.”

Changeling78 · 16/09/2023 22:33

Women on here are actually defending him? Fuck the fuck off. I bet 15 years ago they’d have defended Saville too. Hiding in plain sight.

Wtf! Keep your child AWAY from this predator. Your giggling is totally inappropriate and green lighting this sicko to continue.

JamSandle · 16/09/2023 22:22

Thank you. It means a great deal to read that :)

Flowers I feel for you @JamSandle as I am sure many posters on here do too. Take care of yourself. ❤

OnTheWayThere · 16/09/2023 22:35

Not the "poor wife" rhetoric. Someone knowingly marrying a known cesspit of a man, self-professed even, albeit ever so slightly reformed as he claims, isn't exactly what I'll call a "poor wife".

It's weird how these "poor women" always marry the worst kinds of men as if they think they're so special that they're immune to the man's atrocious behaviour and possible consequences. Equally yoked, I'd say.

Poor innocent kids though.

ru53 · 16/09/2023 22:35

Anyone who has watched the whole dispatches episode start to finish and is defending him needs to give their head a wobble. Take a serious look at yourself and challenge why that is your instinctive reaction to this stuff.

And people saying ‘it’s a police matter’ - it’s been explained many times over on this thread how and why cases like this DON’T get to court and even if they do it’s nearly impossible to secure a conviction. Meanwhile only adding to the pain of the victims.

Try putting yourself in the shoes of one of these women. Or the 16 year old girl he was allegedly getting picked up from SCHOOL when he was in his thirties. Her story alone is utterly heartbreaking. This is a man you want to defend?

It may be trial by media but he’s not going to be sent to prison is he.

1 in 4 women experience sexual assault or rape. How do people still find it so hard to believe when they share their stories.

anotherside · 16/09/2023 22:37

@CornishGem1975

The editing of this show is also vile. I mean, if you'd filmed me over the past 20 years you'd probably get enough on me to make me look like a reprobate and I'm not a comedian

Agree. To be honest I assumed that, allegations proven in court or not, his YT account would certainly get closed, but I’m not even sure on that one now: a few minutes of serious allegations, which the doc makers then diluted with a truckload of “Anyway, we don’t really like this guy anymore, here’s a bunch of selective editing of him acting like a cocky dick (aka Russell Brand) over a 25 year period”. Russell Brand being (or previously being) a dick isnt news, so those segments were all a massive waste of time.
