I actually like Russel brand . And I don't think he's ever hidden what he used to be in his heyday. He's always been very open about his drug use, and promiscuity.

I read his first book . I watch his videos on fb , and while I don't always agree with him, he seems to have totally overhauled his lifestyle, attitudes, is into yoga, self care, seems to be a decent husband and father .

Is this newsworthy ? Young famous comedian in heyday slept with lots and lots of women , consensually he says ?

Hes never hidden it.

On drug misuse I alWays had time for his views that it should be dealt with as a medical issue not a criminal one

What's the news story ?
I always feel like there is much glee and salivating before the media try and knock someone down.
I don't think this is a huw edwards where people would be shocked at him trying to pick up young women behind his wife's back

It seems that brand has settled down , lives a fairly mundane lifestyle and is happy with his choices .

Or am I completely missing something?

Regardless of any crimes he’s a vile human being and a misogynistic cunt.

I also happen to believe he’s an abuser and rapist.

JamSandle · 16/09/2023 22:18

This is sadly true for me.

Raped once. Sexually assaulted once. I didnt report either.

I'm so sorry..... 😟❤

CornishGem1975 · 16/09/2023 22:21

The editing of this show is also vile. I mean, if you'd filmed me over the past 20 years you'd probably get enough on me to make me look like a reprobate and I'm not a comedian.

lavenderlou · 16/09/2023 22:21

I can’t believe how many women on here are tying themselves in knots trying to defend this utter scum,

Depressing. Can't see why anyone would want to defend him - he seems completely vile. Let's hope his chickens have finally come home to roost.

How much are these women being paid?

How do channel4 and the like do these investigations? I mean you can’t exactly put out an advert saying “were you a victim of Russell Brand?”

Trial by media is never ok. There are a lot of creeps out there, you could essentially start a rumour about any one of them and let it run. No trial, no evidence, just a load of hysteria on tv claiming that x and y is true and watch the frothing begin.

If this is true then the authorities should have been involved, this should never have made it to television.

Someone used the word 'witchhunt' a couple of posts previous to this one.

Witchhunt is the correct word. Women who report sexual harassment and assault and rape are 'witches'

And thats the level of debate we are at.

Thank you. It means a great deal to read that :)

Eh, it's investigative journalism conducted by reputable media over more than a year. Not just a rumour

Laburnam · 16/09/2023 22:22

Scum

Melly78 · 16/09/2023 22:22

I feel for those women.
And I'm upset for his wife. She must be feeling dreadful. And she's pregnant. This must be a lot for her to go through.
It's surprising how much we put up with during the lad/ladette years. But it still goes on. I've had two dick pics this week alone. Something needs to be done.
I have a DD. She's 6. I have a male acquaintance who often asks her, "Have you been snogging boys recently?" And I'm always too shy/polite to say anything. I think I even smile/giggle when he does it. Because it's so awkward. And I call myself a fucking feminist.
We all need to say something every time we hear the slightest wanky comment. It needs stamping out.
I always loved Russell Brand. But this whole thing is really making me think. It looks like #MeToo needs another wave.

@AllAnusMorisette

So comedians used to make jokes about RB and were told not to anymore, RB was "protected" but why? It's not like he had Savile levels of fame or anything, what did he have that made him untouchable?

Nothing. Just sounded like the bloke waffled for five minutes to me. Now it’s gone onto “C4 and BBC purposely hire a crude idiot who considered himself gods gift to women, and are then shocked when he acted as a crude idiot. FFW 10-20 years and here’s a documentary about our stupid hiring policy.”

CornishGem1975 · 16/09/2023 22:23

Reputable GrinGrinGrin

NONE of our media or news outlets are reputable and if they were C4 are pretty low down on the scale.

MouseMinge · 16/09/2023 22:24

@Lastchancechica I'd far rather that they didn't either but the fact of the matter is that the media is full of those people. My question was why the BBC, why not Channel 4, why not every media outlet that brushed it under the carpet. I'm not sticking up for Brand but the BBC has had very little to do with his career so it's a bit much to suggest they should be dismantled because of a person they've had very little to do with.

What you'd said on stage about having a blow job until mascara ran? Or bang on about all the (much younger) women you've shagged in graphic detail?

Yep. Completely fucking normal.

I can't honestly think of another male celeb who has been as bad and sexually obsessed as Brand.

Good luck thinking of one.

BananaSpanner · 16/09/2023 22:25

I wonder what is actually going to happen next. He’s self employed. Doesn’t look like anyone is going to the police. So now what?

It is absolutely vile.

If you think of your daughter, sister or mother being spoken about in such terms. A woman. A human being.

Deeply unpleasant.

Nothing. Because this whole programme has prejudiced any hope of a trial.

Erm. You need to cut this male acquaintance out of your life tbh. Start with that.

No grown adult, let alone a man at that, should be asking a 6 year old this.

Like sorry but you need to take responsibility and protect your daughter and yourself from such people.

This isn't a giggling matter.

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 16/09/2023 21:37

When he first started out he was extremely good looking.

Before the dandy shit.

He’s always been grim, not in the slightest bit good looking and dirty in every way. If he wasnt famous, no one would glance at him twice.

Well he will be cancelled of course already started, he has been dropped by the agency.

You think any trial had much of a hope anyway?

What is the conviction rate for rape again?

The reality is sexual assault cases are notoriously difficult to prosecute, this may be the closest to justice that these women will ever get.

If nothing else I hope they realise it wasn’t their fault. The day I realised my abuse wasn’t my fault was the day I finally felt free from it.

RedToothBrush · 16/09/2023 22:27

And Brand is VERY aware of the conviction rate for rape too.

But he’s not been doing much anyway has he?
