I actually like Russel brand . And I don't think he's ever hidden what he used to be in his heyday. He's always been very open about his drug use, and promiscuity.

I read his first book . I watch his videos on fb , and while I don't always agree with him, he seems to have totally overhauled his lifestyle, attitudes, is into yoga, self care, seems to be a decent husband and father .

Is this newsworthy ? Young famous comedian in heyday slept with lots and lots of women , consensually he says ?

Hes never hidden it.

On drug misuse I alWays had time for his views that it should be dealt with as a medical issue not a criminal one

What's the news story ?
I always feel like there is much glee and salivating before the media try and knock someone down.
I don't think this is a huw edwards where people would be shocked at him trying to pick up young women behind his wife's back

It seems that brand has settled down , lives a fairly mundane lifestyle and is happy with his choices .

Or am I completely missing something?

Why are you a rape denier if you say that the police need to be involved? They absolutely do.

Arrest him and get him charged.

This.

Trial by media is vile.

If his guilty, get him to court. Though I'm pretty sure this programme will now ensure the there's no chance of that.

Not saying the police shouldn't be involved (they should), but its incredibly hard to get a conviction for rape, especially several years on. If it went to court and he was found not guilty his alleged victims would be seen as the some of the worst kind of liars by a portion of the public. And its just a generally traumatic process for victims- I can understand why they wouldn't want to go through that.

We put it on and got bored by it very quickly. He's just everything I thought he was. I don't see anything 'new'. And TV/radio channels behaved exactly as they did /do when their 'stars' (as he was all those years ago) behaved like that and they were told about it- Saville being the prime example- they did little or nothing. It's all disgusting, misogynistic and old news.

Islandsadness · 16/09/2023 22:01

For everyone every rape apologist feeling sorry for Brands media trial and saying these women should go to the police..

Dispatches . Russel brand .
Qilin · 16/09/2023 22:01

I can definitely Italy believe that he was involved in these events. The allegations of assaults don't surprise me to be honest. I doubt they'd surprise anyone who knows of his past reputation.

I'm not keen on the idea of a TV programme being the place to have these allegations aired, I'd rather it was a police criminal matter and justice served that way. I can't imagine the TV way will be the ideal way of bringing justice for these women - his supporters liable to harass the woman, people identifying them in real life, risk of issues in the future if it went to court, etc.

However, despite not necessarily liking the tv and media format for presenting allegations, I have no issue with believing what these women are saying could be true.

Sachsgate:

Looking back, it's odd how that didn't damage his career

It didn't affect Jonathan Ross either . He is still on mainstream media all the time

I think things would be different nowadays in the post #metoo era

When he first started out he was extremely good looking.

Before the dandy shit.

He has never been extremely good looking IMO. 4/10 tops IMO. Weird mouth, scruffy hair, and always looks like he hasn't washed or showered for a month.

Yes one of them did.

Do you happen to have any stats on the false accusation rate? Last I heard I believe it was less than 0.5%

It did. They got booted from the BBC didn't they (ironically, the most corrupt organisation in the UK)

My sister worked in tv and theatre . She always said to get to the top in these professions you have to be different, often not nice people.

Egos often huge . Larger than life characters .

I think fame, tv, breeds this . I'm just thinking out loud here .

This show seems to be 5 minutes of serious allegations mixed in with an 85 minute history of Brand acting like a dick and bad boy behaviour. You could probably make the exact same documentary about 80% of young males in the entertainment industry who had periods of drinking, drugs, sleeping around and enjoying masses of female attention.

I hope the police investigate the serious claim of rape and coercive behaviour against the 16 year old and he is seriously punished if found guilty. But most of this programme seems to just be insinuation and innuendo. I question the motives behind the whole thing.

nc343 · 16/09/2023 22:04

@JudgeJ Is that right, aye.

ArseMenagerie · 16/09/2023 22:04

RB was a promiscuous serial shagger who thought he was untouchable, then he was fired and parlayed that into being ‘anti-mainstream’ aka ‘’unbookable’. The problem of course is, as all women know, that a ‘serial shagger’ is a sanitised way of saying abuser and it always means a man who has taken advantage of young or vulnerable woman. Or simply women who like him a bit but not enough and he won’t hear that.

fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft · 16/09/2023 22:04

sweetbirdsong I think weirdly odd balls have always been my thing and clearly not just me 🤷‍♀️

Probs why I'm single

Whether it’s true or not, trial by media is unfair and at this point it just seems like a witch hunt.

LizzieSiddal · 16/09/2023 22:06

I really hope some of these woman are now able to go to the police and he’s investigated and charged. He makes me sick.

Had to switch off Dispatches, those poor women.

Comeonbarbiebrianharvey · 16/09/2023 22:06

Why is this on tv? The allegations are a matter for the police not tv, and the runners saying 'oh I felt uncomfortable with his behaviour but I helped recruit the uni students and gave them his number they were lambs to the slaughter' is sickening, they criticising it now but they enabled it.

JamSandle · 16/09/2023 22:07

This should be investigated thoroughly but trial by media is not appropriate.

CornishGem1975 · 16/09/2023 22:07

I don't like the man particularly but I don't like how this is playing out. For one, the media is not to be trusted. That has been proven time and time again yet we suck it up. C4 are pretty low on the scale. Yes these women could be victims, equally they could be actresses. Go to the police, not the media.

Viviennemary · 16/09/2023 22:07

I've never liked him. He seems a bit creepy. But he is quite a nonentity in the grand scheme of things, cant believe all this fuss and secrecy and breaking news drama.

@fabmaccawhackythumbsaloft if my memory serves me well... you're a police officer ... right? (Or maybe you're not ...) Therefore I'm sure you know the drill perfectly well.

I keep, name changing . Yes ,I've said I've had many many frustrating experiences with CPS , said it on this thread . Rape is the hardest most frustrating thing I've ever dealt with professionally.

When I was raped on a first date I didn't report it . I knew what I'd be in for.
