Just heard this on the radio, does anyone have an actual source? Can't see it anywhere yet, I'm sure that is what I heard, assume not 'serious' as in risk to them?

I’d also suggest that staying at a friends house isn’t the best option if you’re aware this is likely to be a problem. Hotels are set up to deal with this kind of thing and given they were there to attend a public event they were always going to draw some degree of attention.

Hotels have staff that can be bribed. H & M obviously have friends that they trust more. We still don't know where H stayed in London. If it was a hotel someone would have put it on twitter by now.

Hell121 · 18/05/2023 08:36

@BeginningToLookALotLike and that is entirely of their own making by releasing that statement - they have caused this story.

PicturesOfDogs · 18/05/2023 08:36

Everything’s just always dramatised/catastrophised with them.

Why did their spokesman even make a statement? it wasn’t being reported elsewhere.

Or even if they wanted to on make a point about it, why not just say ‘another example of press harassment’ or something.

Why did it have to be ‘near catastrophic’ ‘could have been fatal’ etc.

I agree, it’s purposely done to create parallels with Diana.

And why have they made it known ‘the RF haven’t reached out’. Just reeks of driving an agenda.

Its not everything that needs to be made public.

The cab drivers said he picked them up at 11pm outside the 19th Precinct (police station) but then they were stopped behind a truck and the paparazzi (most on foot) swarmed the car. The 19th Precinct is 2.2km from the Ziegler Ballroom where the event was held. It is reported they left the event at 10pm and so it seems given NYC traffic, they were hounded and followed by paparazzi who probably could easily keep up with them on foot or by bike. An hour after they left the event, they had travelled just over two kms when they pulled into the Precinct and then got in the cab. Given all the paparazzi were there and waiting at the Precinct, I am not sure whose idea it was to get into a cab that would then be stopped at lights right where all the paparazzi where. The cab driver said he just drove them around the block and dropped them back off at the same 19th Precinct about 10 minutes later as the cab get away had ben unsuccessful. It seems then at this point, police helped them in some fashion with an escort to get away from the paparazzi.

But there's a video of the cab stopping and there were hardly any paps there and only one of them got near to the rear seat windows. The security guy got out and they all backed away. The cab eventually sped off and there were no paps following it. So I'm not sure where the swarming happened.

Meghan may well use incidents like this as grounds for divorce later down the line. She kept a very low profile during his book launch (amid rumours of a rift), avoided the coronation and the couple were rarely seen in public. This was supposed to be her night receiving an award associated with her good friend Gloria Steinem. However it was entirely overshadowed by a shit show that will drag through the media for months now. Harry looked like the one behaving far more erratically throughout the situation.

Meghan doesn't seem to attract as much press interest when she's alone in LA with her kids. It's only the toxic combination with Harry that seems to bring out the worst in both. So with stuff like this in collective memory, it's easy for her to say how separating is the safest option for herself and her kids, which many people would also be inclined to agree. Same applies to Harry bragging about killing Taliban.

Piers Morgan had the taxi driver on the phone, last night, hoping to get a “gotcha” moment against Prince Harry and Meghan. However, the taxi driver confirmed that the paparazzi, following them when they were in his car, were worse than when he’s driven other celebrities.

The paparazzi are disgusting. They behave like absolute vultures. I’d love to know how much the Daily Mail and The Express paid for the, now deleted, photos of Prince Harry and Meghan in the taxi

Dreamstate · 18/05/2023 08:43

Whats sickening is women on here desperately defending the paps and blaming H&M:

  1. well they shouldn't of got into the taxi
  2. its they should have better security
  3. why didn't stay in a hotel instead of their friends place

I mean why the fuck is anyone defending paps (mostly men) behaving in a disgusting manner, putting peoples lives (general public) at risk by driving on pavements. That's what is near catastrophic to me... that their driving could of have catastrophic consequences to an innocent person just walking on the pavement. I don't think that is embellishing the story.

If you have a daughter who was just out walking and got injured or worst killed by some men driving illegally on a pavement would you be defending them? Absolutely not you wouldn't be

So glad it backfired on Piers then!

Damnspot · 18/05/2023 08:45

I'm definitely not defending the paps but at the same time I don't worry about H and M like I would my own children, amazingly. I'm just interested in the gossip.

tigger2022 · 18/05/2023 08:46

The thing is, the footage online is actually pretty intrusive, I don’t think anyone would enjoy that, but if they had just SAID that instead of the wildly exaggerated version which is easily debunked. There was also no need for them to drive recklessly or evasively, they’re just photos at the end of the day. Also the whole strategy of getting in and out of various taxis… they should fire their whole security detail lol

Piers Morgan looked quite exasperated when the interview didn't go his way he was quietly seething he's embarrassing

I mean, just get a car with blacked out windows and ride it out. I am surprised that they felt they could only go to their friends house if there was absolutely noone around trying to take their photo. But I guess perhaps Harry has real anxiety around this situation.

I saw that too! The cab driver also said there were at least six paps surrounding them and the couple were quiet but looked very nervous. I don't think piers liked hearing that, lol.

mixedrecycling · 18/05/2023 08:49

putting peoples lives (general public) at risk by driving on pavements

But did they? I have seen that claimed, and I assume it will have been caught on CCTV and mobile phone footage. Presumably the police will be taking action against the people who did that? I wonder why there haven't been any arrests yet?

So can friends, neighbours, staff.

Better to go to a hotel with a good reputation and take advantage of the extra layer of security and experience than saddle yourself with the extra responsibility of not wanting to infringe on your friends personal property or the paranoia of losing trust in those around you.

Exactly. 'Near catastrophic' just means that there could have been a catastrophe, like for example a bystander being hit by one of the scooters going down the sidewalks.

Or maybe people here don't think that's an issue. That poor lady, Helen Holland, lying in a coma after being hit by a royal motorcade, has hardly made a peep in the news. I bet it's pretty catastrophic to her and her family.

behaveasbefitsthesituationwillyas · 18/05/2023 08:52

One of Harry's security has said it could have been catastrophic for pedestrians. I'll have to find the video and link it, saw it this morning.

TrashyPanda · 18/05/2023 08:54

What happened was out of order.

BUT

their security seems inept. This should have been covered in any half decent risk assessment and effective strategies created to avoid this sort of incident. Four blacked out SUVs and their security put them in a cab? Nonsensical. And then to allow your clients to go off in said cab, in a situation their PA described as “near catastrophic” without wearing seatbelts was a huge error.

time to reassess the people you are paying to protect you, Harry and Meghan.

the hyperbole in their official statement, particularly the use of the word “catastrophic” has directly caused a lot of people to dismiss what happened. Time to get a new PR team, because your current one manages to turn people against you by releasing frankly unbelievable stories. A major incident happens in public in the middle of NYC and nobody is aware of it for over 12 hours? Who is going to give that credence?

Damnspot · 18/05/2023 08:54

Tbf I hate piers Morgan but the taxi driver totally played it down on BBC news at 6 yesterday

Mackerson · 18/05/2023 08:16

Harry says that this harassing of them by paps is happening all the time and they're scared. Hence wanting PPO protection in the UK. If that's true, he must surely know that the paps will be at their worst in NY and LA. So why choose to stay with friends and endanger them? Surely he, Meghan or one of their security team must have twigged this could happen when, according to them, this is what they have to out up withvall the time?
It's sad they can't stay with their friend but surely they'd be considerate enough not to inflict this on people they liked?

Surely being followed by paparazzi isn't a reason for the UK to provide police protection? Other celebrities who would be followed by paparazzi wouldn't get it.

Yes but it wasn’t. If I’ve had a near miss I wouldn’t deem that near catastrophic I’d just think oops lucky! I live in arse end of nowhere with country lanes you often have to reverse up to let another pass. Near misses are a thing around here.

Paloma66 · 18/05/2023 08:57

They claimed they were hounded by paps in the UK. Yet I sat at a table next to them in a central London restaurant when they were on a 'date night'. No-one paid much attention to them and they left quietly with security and got into a car. No paps. No fuss. (This was during the period when Meghan claimed she wasn't allowed out, but that's another story...)

They need to organise their security better. Other celebrities and well known figures are able to. But it's not up to the UK taxpayer to pay for it, which Harry arrogantly assumed would happen when they announced they were moving to the US and that as an 'internationally protected person' their security would continue. He's still fighting to make this happen.

Your obsession with calling her Princess Meghan is quite embarrassing too.

it’s been explained that she does not have this title. She is the Duchess of Sussex. She could be known as Princess Harry, but she has never chosen to use this title. She is not, and never will be Princess Meghan.
