Harry and Meghan and Doria car accident?

Just heard this on the radio, does anyone have an actual source? Can't see it anywhere yet, I'm sure that is what I heard, assume not 'serious' as in risk to them?

Is there any other source being reported other than the statement from their spokesperson? This seems a little strange.

AutumnCrow · 17/05/2023 15:27

"Prince Harry, his wife Meghan and her mother were involved in a "near catastrophic" car chase after being followed by paparazzi, according to his spokesperson.

"The incident happened after Meghan and Harry had attended an awards ceremony in New York on Tuesday.
**
'This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD (New York Police Department) officers,' the spokesperson added."

So nobody had a collison?

They had a near catastrophic non-collision, I'll have you know

SarahSmith2023 · 17/05/2023 15:50

I wonder if Meghan will play herself in the film?

amluuui · 17/05/2023 15:50

Why are they getting taxis? They're extremely famous. Does Beyonce just hail a taxi?

This all sounds a bit far-fetched. A two-hour chase, through New York's traffic? Uhh, right.

As for whether the taxpayer should pick up the bill for their security... they're celebrities (and obscenely wealthy, too). I shouldn't have to pay for a celebrity's security arrangements.

KateyCuckoo · 17/05/2023 15:24

Not an accident, a 'nearly' accident.

Correct.

But a TWO HOUR car chase involving blacked out SUVs.

WIth NYPD as witnesses.

Meeting · 17/05/2023 15:51

So the paparazzi chased them for 2 hours and there was no collision?

I wouldn't be surprised if this was a stunt. After all, they're obsessed with likening Meghan to Diana.

CanadianJohn · 17/05/2023 15:51

I think Harry should step away from the royal family and avoid the glare of publicity. Just live quietly, like a normal man.

MrsLeonFarrell · 17/05/2023 15:52

It's on the BBC news channel, who are being very careful on what they are saying and apparently waiting for confirmation from the NYPD. The tone is really strange because they are giving the impression they don't completely believe the statement.

Discwriter · 17/05/2023 15:52

Yeah I call completely bullshit on this one. There was no reason for them to be in a normal taxi.

BlowseNSkirt · 17/05/2023 15:53

I agree he needs to step away for the sake of his own mental health. For whatever reason he seems to be in a cycle of feeding his own trauma.

GIorious · 17/05/2023 15:53

There are some really, truly unpleasant people on MN. Ironically the same ones who call MM out for being 'trashy' or 'nasty' or whatever.

Have a word with yourselves ffs.

PrestonHood121 · 17/05/2023 15:53

I'm sure there was some sort of car chase, probably by the Backgrid paparazzi photographers Meghan likes to call when she's going somewhere. With all the speculation over Harry'v visa status in the States being in trouble because of his admitted drug use, this gives them the argument to keep whatever IPP status/visa he has. Hope they are all ok..

Softoprider · 17/05/2023 15:54

@GIorious Agree

bathsh3ba · 17/05/2023 15:54

Don't believe a word of it. Timing is highly suspect and they wouldn't have had to break the news themselves if it was as big a deal as they say. This is plumbing new depths even for them.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/05/2023 15:54

mixedrecycling · 17/05/2023 15:41

Perhaps best to wait until more information is available - I am aware of the paparazzi 'chase' in their Netflix series that was one (alleged) motorcyclist that wasn't captured on camera, despite the film makers being there in the car...

Wise words as ever, mixedrecycling

Before we leap to too many assumptions, does anyone know who this "spokesperson" is, or come to that what the NYPD have had to say about it?
As PPs have said it's quite a coincidence that this should happen just as Harry's arguing for more security, and it's probably worth keeping an open mind on it for now

Totally agree with you there.

4plusthehound · 17/05/2023 15:54

Northernlurker · 17/05/2023 15:31

Shouldn't they have some sort of plan for this? Like stop their car for a start? Being pursued is awful and the paparazzi need to stop but I can't understand why you'd keep driving? It's cameras not terrorists. Although they may not have known that of course.
Agree it won't help their state of mind.

Why would you stop the car?

How do you know EXACTLY who is in the chasing car?

How do you know EXACTLY what is in the chasing car?

maximist · 17/05/2023 15:55

One for the things that didn't happen list....

Walkingtheplank · 17/05/2023 15:55

It's a car chase not a car accident. Hopefully hyperbole.
I dont understand why the Police would not gave intervened after such a long incident.

ForTheLoveOfSleep · 17/05/2023 15:55

OneFrenchEgg · 17/05/2023 15:30

Blimey, that was a 'blood goes cold' moment. I don't love his book, having read it, but I feel very sorry for him and obviously any kind of car chase is going to be so terrifying.

Yes. Almost terrifying enough to ask the driver to pull over. But not quite terrifying enough. The driver of their car is at fault here. Go to a police station FFS. I'm sure they could have found one on their 2hr joy ride around NYC. Utter selfishness putting everyone around them in danger. ALL those involved.

Violasaremyfavourite · 17/05/2023 15:55

Why would you put other people at risk by not pulling over instead of driving at speed for two hours with multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two police officers?

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 17/05/2023 15:56

Well, there was that fire in South Africa….

ThatAbsoluteFkr · 17/05/2023 15:56

Bullshit.

Why didn't they just stop the car?

Idiots putting people's lives at risk for their own vanity!

Damnspot · 17/05/2023 15:56

You'd think they'd drive somewhere safe then pull over, rather than try and outrun whoever it was. I mean surely a NY hotel would temporarily house them

frankgu · 17/05/2023 15:57

I assume the danger was also to other

pedestrians & drivers?
