Just heard this on the radio, does anyone have an actual source? Can't see it anywhere yet, I'm sure that is what I heard, assume not 'serious' as in risk to them?

Why 'unpleasant'?

I don't believe anything uncritically, from any source.

I'll wait for the evidence, no doubt if it was 'nearly catastrophic' no doubt there will be cam footage and witnesses.

At present we have an unsubstantiated claim that might be 100% correct, and might not.

Hippyhippybake · 17/05/2023 15:58

Strange that it happened last night and yet nobody else has reported it apart from Scobie

Clemopesea · 17/05/2023 15:59

Why would they not just pull over? A 2 hour car chase? Don't buy it.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 17/05/2023 15:41

Yeah, right. 🔔 🦵 🔔

Yep. ⛈☕

FatCatBum · 17/05/2023 16:01

Have the police confirmed it yet (as one would assume a near catastrophic car chase for two hours through Manhattan would be a big thing) or is it all from their spokesperson?

feellikeanalien · 17/05/2023 16:01

According to Twitter it's King Charles and MI5 that are responsible.🙄

Boudicasbeard · 17/05/2023 16:01

Why were they in a taxi rather than with the security detail? Seems odd.

Ostryga · 17/05/2023 16:01

Ah yes, peak nastiness of mumsnet as usual.

I honestly find it so difficult to understand how so many people can wish so many awful things upon strangers and believe that they’re actually in the right. I don’t understand your mentality at all.

sashagabadon · 17/05/2023 16:01

There should be tonnes of footage from passers by. It must surely be all over social media?
sounds a bit odd to me

Dinopawus · 17/05/2023 16:02

So just an average yellow cab ride?

Theunamedcat · 17/05/2023 16:02

Honestly why didn't they call 911 they would be directed to a police station and it wouod be dealt with no need to circle the block for two hours

It is no coincidence that the first four letters of Twitter are 'Twit'.

I don't understand this, why would you rather undertake a high speed car chase than have your picture taken? I get you might not want to be papped but surely it's better to be alive?! Also what about the risk to others with a car chase?
Not absolving paps -scum of the earth, but he is all people skills have learned how to react in these situations?
Also I think the decision to move to the US was not a good one, this wouldn't been highly unlikely in the UK with royal protection etc

This was my first thought too. Perhaps I'm being a heartless idiot, but I couldn't help thinking why on earth would he rather drive at high speed than have pis picture taken, after Diana?

The paps are awful but I think everyone acknowledged that Diana's crash was a result of her driver speeding - why would Harry repeat this response to paps? I don't know, there's just something about this that doesn't make logical sense to me.

Who has 'wished' anything on H&M?

How is reserving an opinion over the accuracy of their statement 'wishing' something on them?

I am glad no-one seems to have been hurt.

frankgu · 17/05/2023 16:03

Why would you put other people at risk by not pulling over instead of driving at speed for two hours with multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two police officers?

Logically you wouldn't pull over as how do you know what risk it is. And I'm sure the paparazzi could also have chosen not to chase....

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/05/2023 16:03

It's on the BBC news channel, who are being very careful on what they are saying and apparently waiting for confirmation from the NYPD

Very sensible of them

mixedrecycling allegedly it's been said that images shouldn't be put out there because of the circumstances in which they'd have been obtained, which some may consider rather convenient

Hippyhippybake is it actually known that Scobie's the spokesperson here?

Scramblinghealingdreaming · 17/05/2023 16:03

This makes zero sense. They had bodyguards with them, they would be (you would hope) highly trained and would not allow this to happen at all. What professional bodyguard puts their principal in danger of death in a car chase?

This could be linked to them getting in a cab and getting papped and looking rather foolish so needing a story to explain it away.

Or it could just be more attention-seeking.

A two hour car chase with consenting adults, at least one of whom was professionally trained and one who lost his mother to a high-speed car chase. Come on, please!

Interesting timing, considering Harry's law suit about private security in the UK.

Indeed it is.

Not so much deja vu as triggering retraumatisation. Poor bugger.

God, I felt my stomach lurch when I read about it - I can't imagine how traumatic it was for H.

TripleDaisySummer · 17/05/2023 16:04

The New York Police Department (NYPD) did not immediately confirm knowledge of the incident. The BBC has not yet been able to verify the incident.

Perhaps more detail will come through soon.

Not buying this.

Bunnyannesummers · 17/05/2023 16:05

No way was there a high speed car chase around NYC with police involved and it didn’t hit social media

What are you on about, which posts are wishing awful things on them?!

SalviaDivinorum · 17/05/2023 16:05

It seems very strange - surely such a conspicuous chase involving near misses etc would have been all over the news when it happened not just being released a day later by H&M's spokesman? If it really did happen they could of course just have kept quiet about it but that wouldn't suit their agenda now would it?

Despite Harry's hatred of the press, the UK ones are very restrained in comparison with the US and id it;s true it's more of a surprise that it hasn't happened sooner.
