Fuck it, I'm opening another one. If the mods delete it fair enough.

I don't believe the menopause or even alcoholism explains a woman vanishing into thin air with no evidence left behind.

This whole case stinks!

New police and family statement:

As we approach the three-week anniversary of Nicola Bulley going missing on Friday, 27 January, we remain committed to doing everything we can to find her.

Our sole focus throughout the investigation has been to find Nicola, to bring her home and to support her family through the trauma they are experiencing. The most important person in all of this is Nicola.

Nicola’s family have asked us to issue a statement from them.

The family said: "It has now been three weeks since Nikki went missing. We, as a family, believe that the public focus has become distracted from finding Nikki, and more about speculation and rumours into her and Paul’s private life.

"As a family, we were aware beforehand that Lancashire Police, last night, released a statement with some personal details about our Nikki.

"Although we know that Nikki would not have wanted this, there are people out there speculating and threatening to sell stories about her. This is appalling and needs to stop.

"The police know the truth about Nikki and now the public need to focus on finding her.

"Due to the peri menopause Nikki suffered with significant side effects such as brain fog, restless sleep and was taking HRT to help but this was giving her intense headaches which caused Nikki to stop taking the HRT thinking that may have helped her but only ended up causing this crisis.

"The public focus has to be on finding her and not making up wild theories about her personal life.

"Despite what some media outlets and individuals are suggesting, we are being updated daily and receive support from our family liaison officers.

"Nikki is such a wonderful daughter, sister , partner and mother and is missed dearly - we all need you back in our lives.

"Nikki, we hope you are reading this and know that we love you so much and your girls want a cuddle. We all need you home. You can reach out to us, or you can contact MissingPeople.org.uk. Don’t be scared, we all love you so very much."

The cameras are at the grapes. If she crossed the road via the bridge or under the bridge (this would have to be in the water, bearing in mind this part is shallower than near the bench) she would be in complete open countryside, all the way to Lancaster if she wanted to.

Exactly. Which is why all this "CCTV coverage of the paths not showing anything" is practically irrelevant. There's almost no CCTV of anything. She could just walk off, no problem at all.

Nobody was questioning why the police sprung into action immediately, so them releasing that information yesterday to explain why she was considered high-risk from day one doesn't make sense. I had assumed it was a high-risk case because a mum had gone missing leaving her dog/phone on site. I would expect the police to act immediately. This is not why they released that info - absolute bullshit.

People were questioning why they were so focused on the river, despite intensive searches coming up with nothing. A menopausal women who has some drink issues doesn't automatically mean she's taken her own life (which is very much what they're implying!) nor are they protective factors from harm. They can say they're keeping an open mind as much as they want, they can pretend their words have been misconstrued by the press - but they've said pretty much from day one she's in that river. As the days are ticking by and she's still not been found they're looking pretty desperate/stupid now.

The SIO was clearly rattled during the presser, she dodged the questions about the bench/red van/fishermen - the last 2 I can understand with it being an ongoing enquiry, but the bench still being in situ with the world and his wife traipsing all over it is a pretty big mistake to make if your river hypothesis is wrong.

Their whole hypothesis seems to stem from Nikki experiencing menopause issues - that should concern us all. They released that info yesterday to take the heat off themselves which is pretty fucking appalling.

And why do they keep going on about 'paths' - 'she was not seen on the path covered by cctv' - have these people never cut across a field? Jumped over a fence? Not everyone uses designated entrances/exits ffs - especially if they don't want to be seen.

A water-loving dog doesn't just sit nicely waiting whilst you go off to drown yourself in a shallow river 🙄

Whole thing reeks.

I totally agree.

confounded234 · 16/02/2023 14:01

Sounds like someone or some people who knew about her personal life were out to sell their story to the press. Outrageous.

I disagree. The focus seem to be that she has a history of alcohol issues and that dealing with the menopause has caused those issues to be a problem again. The main focus isn't the menopause. It's the alcohol.

Bluekerfuffle · 16/02/2023 13:55

I thought a bit lower down could be picked up by cctv from one of the roads. Not sure why I thought that, it might have been said in the press conference.

The field near Rowanwater apparently had a non-functioning camera that looks over the field she was last seen in. But the alleged exit route through the gate and along the river/path eventually leads to open fields alongside the river into countryside.

Oh, ok, thanks. I’m not sure how she would convince the dog to stay behind though, if she walked off for miles.

HymenOrNot · 16/02/2023 14:04

IIRC Paul originally wanted to involve PF because he had more powerful up-to-date sonar equipment

Not because PF was a top expert or super sleuth

The NW SAR have an excellent reputation plus local knowledge and contacts with other agencies

Either/or - both were mentioned to take the heat off the police, not to benefit Nikki in any way.

Hopefully that family statement will stop all this horrific backlash against the police. I’m no particular fan of police but the way the media have been acting against them and some sections of social media perhaps we should do away with them and see how long it takes for everyone to start crying! Honestly compared to
policing elsewhere in the world I’m very grateful for what we have here in U.K.

AnnoyedwithGossips · 16/02/2023 14:10

On the other thread (AIBU thread) - lots of MN'ers are disgusted at you lot on here salivating and speculating and appearing to enjoy the 'fun' of the missing woman. You lot of armchair detectives appear oblivious to the fact that you are not helping just gossiping and appearing to enjoy it.

Try stepping back and thinking how you might feel if it were a family member of yours that had disappeared. Stop with the speculation of why did X say that, Y do this, she do this that or the other. It comes over as very sick, mawkish and vulture like.

lemmein · 16/02/2023 14:10

This is the same argument trotted out about the NHS.

No, we shouldn't be grateful and silent about public services that we all pay for - none are above scrutiny.

Sorry, we'll shush now 🙄

She could have walked under the road bridge - no CCTV and v little chance of being seen by other walkers if she walked along the river bank rather than on the main towpath above.

She could have cut up to the towpath where it meets the road from the lower river bank track if she didn’t choose to go under the road bridge - and turned left - where police said there is no CCTV - hence request for dashcam which hasn’t thrown anything up to date.

Equally she could have walked off anywhere else to another location away from the river.

Oaktree55 · 16/02/2023 14:14

Trust me I think the NHS is a pile of 💩. I am making direct comparison to my experience of policing here and France. We are streets ahead.

Breaking news on bbc news website states Nicolas family want all public speculation to stop.

AnnoyedwithGossips · 16/02/2023 14:15

@lemmein

Oh don't shush due to the growing numbers of us that think this specualtion and gossip is unacceptable but maybe shush since the FAMILY would like you to?

Just a thought - maybe listen to the family?

Their statement -

"Nicola’s family have asked us to issue a statement from them.

That’s a very good point.

Or did he want the river ruled out fast so that police would be forced to extend the search elsewhere?

Any speculation regarding the family is reported and deleted immediately.

I'm sure if MN has an issue with the thread then it'll disappear. No need for the constant stream of name-changers to get involved 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you've got an issue report it.

Every where I’ve read has said she was struggling because she had an early menopause. So I think for her it was menopause rather than peri menopause.

Statement just released by the family says she was going through perimenopause.

AnnoyedwithGossips · 16/02/2023 14:22

I think @lemmein there are lots of people that are commenting and wonder what you are getting from this continued speculation. Doesn't what the family say matter to you at all? It's a shame that the family issue a statement and you just continue onwards with your thread. 10 threads now and an AIBU as well. This involves a real family.

Diverging · 16/02/2023 14:23

There is nothing at all to suggest she had drunk alcohol that day.

It sounds like the police came to an early conclusion about Nicola being in the river because of some sort of history of issues. Still no evidence for that. Now they’re trying to cover their backs.

Faulding is now saying yes she could have gone out to sea even though he had previously said it was impossible. She could have ended up in a deeper part but all the other reasons why she couldn’t have reached the sea are still there like the length and convoluted nature of the river.

This still just feels so unreal with the police and experts contradicting each other as well as constantly changing their own opinions to the opposite. I feel so sorry for Nicola and her family.

AnnoyedwithGossips · 16/02/2023 14:23

I reported it.

The slightly better online newspapers have closed commenting on the case now. At last someone is listening to the family.
