Yes if you live in Ukraine

GirlInACountrySong · 29/01/2022 19:01

its possible!

littlejalapeno · 29/01/2022 19:21

Yeah the pro Tory press really are trying to bury the Johnson controversies with tales of war with Russia. The answer is who knows, but if you’re prone to worry about things you can’t control the best thing for your health is to avoid reading the daily mail.

Poor Ukraine but wouldn't put it past boris to get involved to distract everyone

prh47bridge · 31/01/2022 00:11

I hope Putin is looking for a face-saving way out. Ukraine itself is unlikely to lead to us being involved in a war. However, Putin's expansionism is a threat to world peace. If he invades Ukraine and then moves on other countries, there will be a point at which we will have to stand up to him.

Bakewelltart987 · 31/01/2022 00:19

Boris loves a bit off drama but he is to busy partying to get involved so I highly doubt we will get involved.

TheFoldOx · 31/01/2022 01:08

We didn't get involved in a shooting war over Berlin in 1948, Hungary in 1956, Czechoslovakia in 1968, Georgia in 2008 or Ukraine in 2014 and the UK is not going to start shooting at the Russians over Ukraine now. What we are going to do is consult with our Nato allies if any of them feel that any member's security is threatened; it's not a long shot that the Baltic states may well feel this way, depending on how the next few weeks pan out.

We've already got involved! 1000 troops already over there training Ukraine soldiers.

Didn't Johnson say committing troops to Ukrain won't happen?

Although he usually does the opposite of what he says. And he also said "we" would stand shoulder to shoulder with Ukrain.

So it's anyones guess what the forces may do.

My guess is that any action taken against a Russian invasion of Ukrain would be led by NATO. So UK troops may be involved via NATO

HeddaGarbled · 31/01/2022 01:20

Our troops are there to send a message about protecting the NATO member states nearby, who aren’t under genuine threat. It’s for show.

Ukraine are on their own. Sanctions and hand-wringing are all they can expect from us.

I know this is going to be controversial, but actually, Russia have a point. Their security is threatened by the growth of NATO member states on their borders, and we should have followed through on the Kiev agreement.

LemonSwan · 31/01/2022 01:23

Fucking hell if we do then I just give up.

You know what my ma said 2019 NYE. She said this is a new decade. I feel like its going to be a good one.

And since that day the world has proceeded to fuck it self up in ways I previously never foresaw.

Russian security is threatened by Nato? The same Russia that has, in the last 15 years, invaded two of its neighbours. And are you arguing that Russia should have a veto over the policies of sovereign states, simply because they're neighbours?
CazCackle · 03/02/2022 03:34

Interesting idea from the Guardian, my favourite tipple, that NATO could invite Russia in, too.

I was listening to 5drive on Tuesday evening and two Ukrainian women were on. They live in the UK but all their families are in Ukraine. They said they'd been speaking to their families there and there were so happy when they heard Boris Johnson was going. And after he gave his press conference they were pleased with what they heard. From their pov they're worried about what might happen and they're grateful that a world leader has gone and spoken against Russia. BJ was not the only leader there. I think the Dutch PM was there and someone else. But the UK is noted for its armed forces. So for the Ukrainians hearing France and the UK lend their support is important for them.
So when people mock or jeer at BJ for going and speaking, they're actually not getting the importance that the Ukrainians are placing on our support.
It was an interesting interview and the women were saying that they believed Ukraine has really been pushed to its limits and would fight against any military incursion. It's very sad.

CazCackle · 03/02/2022 08:25

That's really interesting and good to have another pov, esp of our pm. I was there in 2014 and the youngsters in the volunteers were saying they would fight with or without European help. It was incredibly moving, and you're right, it's terribly sad, including for families who have kin in Russia.

Sammy900 · 24/02/2022 01:53

What the hell!! Is Russia just about to Invade the Ukraine?

sqiudgames · 24/02/2022 03:16

Sammy900 · 24/02/2022 03:40

Sammy900 · 24/02/2022 03:42

USA was a very heartfelt -please please don't do this

U.K - was a powerful speech, meaning we will crush your economy, close your banks

Sammy900 · 24/02/2022 03:44

all of the poor ordinary people that are going to be effected by this

Girlmumdogmumboymum · 24/02/2022 03:44

Given that Boris has issued sanctions to Russia and sent arms to Ukraine, yeah I think our nose is firmly in there.

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/02/2022 03:55
