All this going on - do I need to be worried about a war coming ? With Russia ?

@littlejalapeno

Yeah the pro Tory press really are trying to bury the Johnson controversies with tales of war with Russia. The answer is who knows, but if you’re prone to worry about things you can’t control the best thing for your health is to avoid reading the daily mail.
Wtf? Are you seriously thinking that this is all about a distraction for Boris?

This is not the time to shoehorn in a pop about the "Tory press"!

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 07:41

Russia destabilising the west will be taken very very seriously.

We could be looking at millions of deaths, so no, I don't think this is going away anytime soon. The gorilla war that will follow will not be won by the Russians. Nor will the hearts and minds of the people of Ukraine.

This could go on for years and years, and do you think the world will cut off Russia. It will be a pariah state after this for sure.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 24/02/2022 07:45

It depends what we let Putin get away with - if he turns his attention to the Baltic States, they are NATO and EU members and we'll have to get involved in a much more meaningful way.

Another man who likes to willy wave and doesn't care how many lives he destroys in the process Angry

JuergenSchwarzwald · 24/02/2022 07:46

@Keepyourheadscrewedon

The root of this conflict lies with Putin and his ego and his misguided attempts to reinstate the USSR.
Indeed.
SchadenfreudePersonified · 24/02/2022 07:47

@Attictroll

Poor Ukraine but wouldn't put it past boris to get involved to distract everyone
This.

I think Johnson is perfectly capable of plunging the entire world into war if he could - fortunately he doesn't have that much power.

However, he is ratching up the jingoism so that attention is taken off his own vile misdeeds. And just don't get me started on that tw*t, Truss!

JuergenSchwarzwald · 24/02/2022 07:49

I know this is going to be controversial, but actually, Russia have a point. Their security is threatened by the growth of NATO member states on their borders, and we should have followed through on the Kiev agreement

their security is not remotely threatened. Do they really think the US is going to use Ukraine or Poland as a springboard to invade Russia? It is utter nonsense. Western nations just want to get over covid and get their economies going again properly, there is no appetite for war. Putin is mad.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 24/02/2022 07:50

And it's Kyiv not Kiev.

Alexandra2001 · 24/02/2022 07:51

@Sammy900

USA was a very heartfelt -please please don't do this

U.K - was a powerful speech, meaning we will crush your economy, close your banks

Funkin hell!

USA has had sanctions on the banks and individuals that the UK has just announced for years, the UK hasn't even introduced the laws to enact tougher sanctions.

UK response, as always with a pro russian Tory Govt, high on rhetoric, but very weak on substance..

Boris plays tennis with Russian spies wife to for money, tory party took 3m in funds from Russians with strong links to putin (gave them uk citizenship too)

MrsLargeEmbodied · 24/02/2022 07:52

putins remarks were very frightening
as were the sounds of the sirens.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 24/02/2022 07:52

China has been very quiet on Ukraine.

I think China is playing the long game and keeping a watching brief to see how prepared the west is, psychologically and physically, for war. I think they'll look to exploiting this conflict, not joining it.

However, I'm not a very politically aware person so could be miles out.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 24/02/2022 07:52

dont forget that not all Russians are bad, feel for all those innocents caught up in this

SchadenfreudePersonified · 24/02/2022 07:53

UK response, as always with a pro russian Tory Govt, high on rhetoric, but very weak on substance.

That's because our govt is deep in Putin's pocket.

Most ridiculous thing I’ve heard in ages.

I think a war with Russia is a bit more important than bojo having a fucking party

As someone living in the UK with family in Ukraine, what you're saying is absurd. Sorry, but a war in Ukraine is more important than partygate.
MrsLargeEmbodied · 24/02/2022 07:54

we should reclaim those houses in london belonging to the russian oligarchs

Who backed Putins aim of splitting up the EU > yep Farage - very pro Russian and our very own Boris Johnson.

@MrsLargeEmbodied

Indeed - I think most people on both sides would rather that this didn't happen.

The Russians would rather that there were NATO forces in Ukraine, the Ukrainians would rather be under Russian control than have their children killed. All that most people want to do is just get on with their lives, raise their children, and live in peace.

some of had sanctions imposed

gonetogroundnow · 24/02/2022 07:56

I think it would be useful for the news, and for people individually, to educate themselves on Ukraine, and it's contribution to industry and agriculture on a global scale. Might just force people into being less passive with the "poor Ukraine" as if this is not a global concern.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 24/02/2022 07:56

have had

Joystir59 · 24/02/2022 07:56

@JuergenSchwarzwald

And it's Kyiv not Kiev.
Of course getting the spelling right and saying Ukraine rather then THE Ukraine is going to make everything much better. Twat.
Alondra · 24/02/2022 07:56

Are you from one of the Russian troll factories? Employed to defend Russia online?

Can we stop calling trolls to anyone with a different opinion to your own?

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 07:56

Be aware of who is on the thread, and why they are posting......partygate and tory donors are not relevant

MrsLargeEmbodied · 24/02/2022 07:57

what do you mean @Keepyourheadscrewedon

wingscrow · 24/02/2022 07:58

In Ukraine yes obviously. Involving the rest of Europe, no.

At the end of the day no one is going to want to take on Putin over Ukraine and risk a general conflict and he knows that.

Unless our 'leaders' have had a recent lobotomy as it would be insanity.
