Is GB News the beginnings of a new political movement?

I don't really know what GB News is.

I take glances at the clips that appear on Twitter every now and again. The thing I find curious is that people rubbish it on here. But Neil Oliver is one of the main presenters isn't he?

I really like him. He's seemed, in the past, when I've watched his history programmes to be a very astute character.

I'm wondering ... GB News ... could it be the beginnings of an outspoken outlet that we need ... and the beginnings of a new political party perhaps?

No

EishetChayil · 23/10/2021 23:35

"Outspoken" invariably means "alt right gobshite" in my experience.

DialsMavis · 23/10/2021 23:37

Lisiten to what he says, it is bollocks.

boismint · 23/10/2021 23:49

No.
Has the whole Andrew Neil launch/departure passed you by? GB News is an irrelevance. Only so long before it’s wound up.

entropynow · 23/10/2021 23:51

No. It's the mouthpiece of an old one. Right-wing, populist, ignorant nationalism. We need it like several holes in the head.

SO disappointed in Neil Oliver. He should've stuck to history and TV presenting.

DismantledKing · 23/10/2021 23:51

Laurence Fox has a political party. How many far right gobshites starting new parties do you need?

AdoptedBumpkin · 23/10/2021 23:52

I hope not.

Libertaire · 23/10/2021 23:53

With the Tories under Johnson having become addicted to massive increases in spending paid for by huge tax rises and obsessed with climate change there is now an obvious gap in British politics for a low-tax, pro-free market, Green-sceptic, pro free speech, anti-woke party. GB News is providing an outlet for those views and the Reform party is planning to give their target demographic candidates to vote for.

Dancerinthedark01 · 23/10/2021 23:56

I'm not paying a lot of attention to GB news tbh.

I don't pay much attention to most media outlets. They all have their strengths and weaknesses and biases. There seems to be an agenda with all of them at the moment and I wonder if any of them are at all independent. It feels very much that all of them are in a some way a voice for the Government. Even, increasingly and confusingly so, The Guardian.

It's refreshing to glimpse this new channel standing up and speaking out and taking it's own independent view on things.

I haven't listened to it - as explained above.

But I respect the change in direction from all the rest and think it's much needed.

KrisAkabusi · 24/10/2021 00:05

It's not a change in direction! It's the old, bigoted, right wing nonsense on a new channel.

user1471517900 · 24/10/2021 00:09

So you're arguing in favour of a channel you know nothing about.

Thanks. For. That.

PickAChew · 24/10/2021 00:10

Hardly. It's crumbling already. It's media, not politics.

pelosi · 24/10/2021 00:11

So you’re saying a channel you never watch or pay attention to is the start of a new political movement? 🤣

That’s as bonkers as GB News, you’d fit there.

Dancerinthedark01 · 24/10/2021 00:11

Is it right wing?

I’ll watch it for a bit. I assumed it was ok because Neil Oliver presents it.

Watch it for a bit because it always helps their viewing figures.

Or is that you, Neil!

I need to watch it to work out what it’s like. Surely you’ve all watched it to be able to be so certain that it’s right wing or crap?

I’m not going to just believe what google says about it.

Pythonista · 24/10/2021 00:15

You are contradicting yourself

You aren't really aware of it

But it might be a new political movement

You aren't aware of most media outlets

Yet this one caught your eye because it had some tv prick presenting

But you still don't know anything about it?

Pythonista · 24/10/2021 00:16

Google is a search engine. It is, in and of itself, not an information provider.

And no I get most of us haven't watched it - people are just aware of things around them.

Dancerinthedark01 · 24/10/2021 00:16

All of us are a mix of contradictions @Pythonista

If you haven’t watched it you are in no position to judge.
