Is GB News the beginnings of a new political movement?

I don't really know what GB News is.

I take glances at the clips that appear on Twitter every now and again. The thing I find curious is that people rubbish it on here. But Neil Oliver is one of the main presenters isn't he?

I really like him. He's seemed, in the past, when I've watched his history programmes to be a very astute character.

I'm wondering ... GB News ... could it be the beginnings of an outspoken outlet that we need ... and the beginnings of a new political party perhaps?

@Dancerinthedark01

Is it right wing?

I’ll watch it for a bit. I assumed it was ok because Neil Oliver presents it.

Some of GBN is right wing. You could hardly call Farage anything else.

But they also employ Gloria DePiero, the former Labour MP for Ashfield, an ex-mining area in Nottinghamshire which voted Tory for the first time ever in 2019. She does some very interesting reporting on how Labour became so disastrously out of touch with the traditional working class communities it is supposed to exist to represent.

But fair play - respecting something you know nothing about just because Neil Oliver is on it

Dancerinthedark01 · 24/10/2021 00:24

I’m not right wing. I am anti government though. I hate this bloody government and I thought GB news might be along those lines @Pythonista

Why are you in a position to judge?

And where do you suggest I do my research, other than watching the channel?

I’m not just reading what other people have to say about it.

Where did I say I respected it?

It is along those lines.

So you want to do your own research so you started a thread to ask people's opinions?

EmergencyHydrangea · 24/10/2021 00:26

Neil Oliver is absolutely showing his arse on GB news. I am so disappointed in him

@Libertaire Thank you. That’s very informative and interesting.

I’d forgotten or wasn’t fully aware that Farage was a regular presenter on it. Obviously that would make it right wing. Although from your description it sounds like it’s a mixture. Contradictory maybe.

But yes, give Farage the extra viewing figures

If you haven’t watched it you are in no position to judge.
But you just said you’ve never watched it?

Exactly how much have you had to drink tonight, OP?

adrianmolesmole · 24/10/2021 00:41

We don't need another new political movement that's even more right-wing than the f*cking tories. What do you want, fascists now??

We need a new political movement to the LEFT (or perhaps something else completely original that I can't think of). We don't need any more right-wing fuckuppery in this country!!

MatildaJayne · 24/10/2021 00:48

Hmm, a new outlet that was too right wing for Andrew Neil, eh? No, I won’t be watching.

nancy75 · 24/10/2021 00:55

It’s worth the occasional watch just for a laugh, it’s woefully bad.
I’m not too worried about pushing up the viewing figures, it’s nice for then to get double digits occasionally.
GB news really is only going one way, and that’s down the toilet.

Pieceofpurplesky · 24/10/2021 01:46

Is that you Laura? Now you are not the BBC tory party political spokesperson you are testing the waters even more right??

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/10/2021 01:52

I put it on in the early days for DS but it was shite. Haven't watched it since Andtew Neil left.

Changechangychange · 24/10/2021 02:26

I imagine it’s a hamfisted attempt by GBN’s PR dept to create some buzz/remind us it’s still on air.
TooBigForMyBoots · 24/10/2021 02:36

I think you're all being a bit mean. Like it's not the beginning of a movement but somebody may be watching and like it.

butwhatcanwedo · 24/10/2021 02:46

They debate lots of topics in a balanced way and it’s a very diverse line up of presenters and guests. It’s actually good if you choose to watch it.

TooBigForMyBoots · 24/10/2021 02:49

I've watched it. It's shite.

Yes, it’ll be one of those. The trick is to choose one and stick with it. Hmm
