Evan Davies is so lovely I want him for a novelty keyring. And he is going to become a presenter of the Today Programme

This is good news, surely, especially if it means the horrible egotist John Humphries is retiring.

Evan Davies is clever, enthusiastic, and really cute!

I do very muchly like Mayo and Kermode, but they are getting a bit self-satisfied aren't they? I mean, they're a bit too aware of that segment having a fervent nerdy following. But I will still cry like a baby if they ever stop doing it. I do find Kermode's little excursions into morality and religion very enjoyable. Is he Frank Kermode's son?

Aitch · 26/11/2007 23:04

what, the film segment? does it have a following?
you'll have to ask notanotter, really, as i recall she was a dreadful Vicki-all-of-my-friends-are-men-why-is-that-types...

seeker · 26/11/2007 23:07

My emails were all deeply dull, I'm afraid and consisted of me riding my hobby horses briefly round the studio before sinking into obscurity again.
Should I know who Frank kermode is?

ahundredtimes · 26/11/2007 23:09

He's an academic sort of person, and no you shouldn't know who he is.

I bet you're emails are marvellous. Or they might not be, and now PW can add that to her list. Dull email, be from Northampton, have a name beginning with S.

Have I ever shared my hatred for Huw Edwards with you all?

ahundredtimes · 26/11/2007 23:10

YOUR emails fgs.

I don't know if they're related. He brought his mother in once I remember, and she was a Dr too. They talked about it, at some length. Am going to google the Kermodes.

policywonk · 26/11/2007 23:11

God, if it were a matter of being dull and riding hobby horses I'd be a bloody presenter by now.

Aitch · 26/11/2007 23:13

he's laurie taylor-lite, seeker. mmmmm. laurie taylor.

LydiaTheTattooedLapin · 26/11/2007 23:14

Did anyone hear that spoof thingy on the 6:30pm slot the other day... it's called Listen Against I think, has Jon Holmes and Alice Arnold in it... here it is.

They did this marvellous spoof thing that the Today Programme was going to get jingles, cue this cheesy faux-soul voice crooning away - the one line I remember clearly was "Sarah Montague... you would, you know"

DH always calls ED "twinkletits", I wondered why!

policywonk · 26/11/2007 23:14

Now that's what I call esoteric taste aitch.

When I was a fervently academic teenager I tried to convince myself that I fancied Eric Hobsbawm, but my hormones just weren't up to it.

seeker · 26/11/2007 23:15

Ah, maybe that's where you're going wrong - I don't come from Northhampton - I come from Kent! Maybe my success is evidence of the South East bias..........

ahundredtimes · 26/11/2007 23:15

My god Mark Kermode's Wiki entry is terribly throrough. It must have taken him an age.

They are not related.

Frank Kermode states this very clearly on his Wiki page. ha ha.

I suppose you've all gone to bed, and I've been researching the Kermode family tree.

seeker · 26/11/2007 23:16

Laurie Taylor is fab. Andrew Marr, anybody?

policywonk · 26/11/2007 23:16

Oh God. This is one of those Everything You Know Is Wrong moments. Northampton is a central plank of 100x's strategy for getting me on the air.

Aitch · 26/11/2007 23:16

okay, what did everyone think of the charlie higson/paul whitehouse thing that was on recently, the fake phone-in. i thought it was SHITE. apart from the other guy, simon something, he always makes me laugh. but apart from that SHITE.

Aitch · 26/11/2007 23:17

andrew marr a pal of my pal (i know...) and reportedly terribly terribly good fun and quite the gourmand.

policywonk · 26/11/2007 23:18

LOL at Frank Kermode explicity dissociating himself.

As if we'd go to bed while awaiting news of the Kermodes.

Aitch · 26/11/2007 23:19

Laurie Taylor's the same about the drummer from Duran Duran. NO RELATION. he must get right pissed off with being asked.

ahundredtimes · 26/11/2007 23:19

Ha. It's a paragraph all on its own.

I LIKE Andrew Marr. I have for a while. DH used to hate him, and then look what happened. Nick Robinson.

policywonk · 26/11/2007 23:19

Now, Marr, him I quite fancy in a I-wouldn't-actually-do-him sort of way. He's marvellous.

DP bought the CDs of Down the Line recently and plays them in the car. I seem to laugh exactly once per episode.

Aitch · 26/11/2007 23:20

LOL. he's got kerrazy specs, hundred, what's yer problem?

LydiaTheTattooedLapin · 26/11/2007 23:20

I heart Andrew Marr. very much.

"Down the Line", Aitch? moments of extreme giggliness interspersed with much yawning, I thought.

No, Armstrong and Miller's RAF pilots - THAT'S funny!

ahundredtimes · 26/11/2007 23:21

Oh no, sorry Aitch I did not hear the programme to which you so lovingly refer. It sounds awful.

i must go to bed. What is the name of that AWFUL woman who is on R5 now, she's terrible. Stephan from Northampton has rung and spoken to her in the past. Gawd.

Aitch · 26/11/2007 23:22

and the charlie higson phone-in thing? i kept reading about how some people thought it was just an obnoxious phone-in show (because they were too stupid to realise it was satirical hemhem) and thinking 'i'm one of those people...'

policywonk · 26/11/2007 23:22

Robinson a twerp but I did enjoy it when he needled George Bush at a press conference a while back. You could hear sirens going off in Bush's brain (his actual brain, not the guy he employed to be his brain).

ahundredtimes · 26/11/2007 23:23

Oh Aitch, his SPECS and his FACE and his total inability to say anything of insight.

I have posted this about 36 times before, but it's SO true. Dh throws his shoes at the telly when NR is on and shouts 'I don't want to hear what YOU think, tell me the news.'

We are thinking of writing letters of complaint about him.

Dh and I have taken up writing letters recently! It's very entertaining and we get very excited by our replies. . .

Oh dear.

Night all
