That striding about without notes business was quite impressive. I did get bored though.

I am watching this now on BBC Parliament.
I'm impressed at his ability to speak without notes.
I am also shocked at what Teresa May has done to her hair, she's channeling Anne Widdecombe.

Samantha is doing her best Diana-esque googly eyes at him.

Piffle · 03/10/2007 19:09

and handy for david C when near Mr osborne

O! Mind cadaver

GO is slightly cadaverish we think...

DrNortherner · 03/10/2007 19:13

Lol Fio - say it like it i!!!!!!

I think he's a dick too.

Piffle · 03/10/2007 19:14

Dave? Minor cad

SenoraPostrophe · 03/10/2007 19:23

lol at www's dithering. he has said some sensible things on the non doms (but only to pay for a reduction in iht, rather than income tax, which is silly), and a few other sensible things. But re,member that most of the sensible things he says get un-said the following day, and that the man is a PR chap. I wouldn't trust him as far as I could spit.

WideWebWitch · 03/10/2007 19:24

True and I read about non doms today and he's only asking them for £25k A YEAR, THAT'S NOTHING! It's a drop in the ocean for these people!

WitnessProtectionCod · 03/10/2007 19:24

i never listen to em
saem old smae old
"we wil eb great"
and they are all shit

WitnessProtectionCod · 03/10/2007 19:26

i heard an amazing hting today showing SOEONE had thought abotu somehting
looked afetr kids (whether in care or fostered or adopted) haev bad results in maths and literacy so there is a government shceme to fund teahign support fort ehse kids so they can catch up

sometimes it does make you think peopel have THOUGJHT about things not just trying to save money all the time

WitnessProtectionCod · 03/10/2007 19:26

( and i haev seen it in action)

WitnessProtectionCod · 03/10/2007 19:26

samantha cameroan
is she supposed to be stylish?

RubberDuck · 03/10/2007 19:27

They're scrapping the ID Card fiasco... certainly has made me view them much more positively.

wordgirl · 03/10/2007 19:29

Yes RubberDuck, I feel so strongly about ID cards that I am tempted to vote for them on that issue alone. I'm surprised they're not making a bigger thing of it actually - a lot of people are opposed to national identity cards so I'm sure it would be a vote-winner

Theclosetpagan · 03/10/2007 19:31

Politicians.

Same crap.
Different day.

No - DC has not turned the polls around. He is an ex Etonian who has absolutely nothing in common with most people in this country.

Tinker · 03/10/2007 19:35

Spin, spin, spin. This man wrote Michael Howard's campaign. He'll say ANYTHING.

But I could NEVER be swayed.

WideWebWitch · 03/10/2007 19:37

If he scraps id cards I'll vote Tory
for the first time in my life

OldieMum · 03/10/2007 19:50

I'm still with Aneurin Bevan's view of the Tories, I'm afraid ... "Lower than vermin"

They'll never, ever get my vote.

scampadoodle · 03/10/2007 19:51

I find it hard to believe that there are so many non doms that charging them only 25k a year will raise the millions needed to fund the tax cuts they're advocating.
I don't care that DC was able to recite a speech without notes - it's called Learning Off By Heart - it's policies & ideologies wot matter.

If Labour had never got in, lots of EC-led directives to do with, for instance, employment law and part-time workers' & maternity rights (which should matter a great deal to us on MN) would never have seen the light of day here in the UK. The Tories would have fought tooth & nail to get us excluded from them.

Constance: the super rich get off lightly because they can very easily up sticks & go & invest their super wealth elsewhere.

TheDullWitch · 03/10/2007 19:59

I just don t see the prob with ID cards. Every other European country has em. And weird they always opposed by people worried about immigration: at least with ID cards they'd know immediately if someone had a right to be there. In globalised world, I think they are essential.

Cammelia · 03/10/2007 20:03

Zac Goldsmith is a bit tasty though

WideWebWitch · 03/10/2007 20:04

I'm with you on Zac

WideWebWitch · 03/10/2007 20:05

but yes, back to politics

TheSFXshape · 03/10/2007 20:07

yes ZG is cute

BUT he is not an MP yet,he is running for my constituency which is Lid Dem atm with Susan Kramer.

I would consider voting for him Eton rich boy or not I think we need high profile environmentalists as MP's if he run as an independent . also most of his proposals have been obliterated

SenoraPostrophe · 03/10/2007 20:09

I don't have a prob with id cards per se, but those other eu countries don't have all the biometric stuff on them that's making the uk ones cost £silly. also those other countries haven't stamped out fraid despite the \cards - spain has one of the worst records in europe on credit card fraud.

I think they should either simplify the plan or scrap it. probably scrap it.

I don't feel strongly enough about it to vote Tory though.

WitnessProtectionCod · 03/10/2007 20:22

id cards i dont care either

i do hope they' d be linked into benefits so when we fine folkw e cna see what theya re up to/ if on bail etc etc.

wheni had to reclaim some lsot property (camera)from teh musee dorsay once htey wimmin there said" can we see your carte didentite"
non siad i, we odnt have em.
wlel your passport? no left it where i was staying

your bank cards? ditto

they had ot look at the photos to know it was me

constancereader · 03/10/2007 20:42

scampadoodle - so it's ok to make a dubious moral decision based only on expediency? You are right, that is why Labour has left the super rich alone (along with the fact that many of them fund the Labour Party in exchange for honours..)

From what I have read the Tories have deliberately set the amount of extra tax so that it will cover the shortfall yet not force these non doms elsewhere.
