I've always found it amusing that people (my in-laws esp) feel they can be TOTALLY judgemental about others choice of papers when they wouldn't DARE be so rude abut the same persons dress sense/choice of car/school for the kids/religious persuasion!!

Comes back to the old adage "if you can't say anything nice or constructive say nothing!"

I haven't read the whole thread but I hate the DM with a passion. It's filled with hyserical "hang the paedophiles" shite and I despise it. At least The Sun knows what it is.

i thought of another coupla things the DM hates - working mums and mums who claim benefits, making all mums totally reliant, on often useless, men, if they are to please the shite DM. its a big pile of snobby shite. i know this as i see the front page of it on the tube sometimes, and it is always, as i may have already mentioned, a big load of shite.

Although most of the people on here seem to hate the DM I would be interested to know why it always seems to be the first paper to sell out in shops.

It sells out first probably for the same reason that Britain lags behind the rest of Europe in our educational standards. Mars bars are top sellers too but that doesn't mean they're a Good Thing.

Actually, I think it's in the T&C's of Mumsnet membership that you have to hate it, whether you've actually ever read it or not. Some people must have slipped through

Mopst people don't hate it it just a tiny minority of people with highly inflated opinion of themselves. The papers circulation is over 2.5 million compared with 300,000 for the guardian, which says it all really.
I have reported this thread as highly offensive and mumsnet actually agreed with me but said it is very difficult to draw the line and have allowed it to stand.

I know several people who won't use Mumsnet because it is seen as left wing and basically not very welcoming.This horrible type of thread does nothing to disallusion them of the fact

Surely mumsnet should be welcoming to everyone whatever their political persuasion, not a clique for a few like minded people who have no repsect for other peoples point of view.

And mumsnet should strive to NOT be all of those things.IT is great that the majority of posters on here have said as much, and a real testament to the kind of lovely open minded people here on MN, in stark contrast with the rabidly right wing bigots who read the DM.

I dont hate DM or those who read it however dh used to get it delivered and I used to read it for want of anything better coming through the letterbox..

I got sick of the sneering, superior tone of the articles and stopped reading it sometime ago.

But it doesnt mean I think any less of those who read it and I certainly dont categorise them by their choice of reading material.

there is a difference between respecting the right to have an opinion, and disagreeing with that opinion.

I respect your right to read the Daily Mail, I will judge you by it though, I will think you are either ignorant of what it contains, or that you agree with what it contains, and I will strenusouly argue with you about why it is a force for bad, spreading negative feelings about everyone from immigrants to mums, all based on half fact half lie, and general right wing propaganda.

i read it at work. we have all the papers in the canteen free so i just take whatever's spare. most of my colleagues regard it as truth and nothing but the truth. they'd never read a broadsheet but then they'd never read a red to tabloid, however the mail is ok by them. it's neither too high brow nor too nudey rudey. so, having read it on several occasions i can safely say it is a big fat load of shitey shitola and urge you all to join here
