What does it do that is so wrong?

OP posts:

THE GRAUN IS SHITE

Better?

Nothing wrong with RW newspapers, I read the Torygraph which is a RW newspaper. Most people hate the DM for many more reasons than its political stance.

UnquietDad · 11/09/2007 15:25

VVV - always reminds me of my friend's reaction to an Italian beauty.

Vidi

LOLOLOLOL!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 11/09/2007 15:27

A bilingual joke, as understood by Daily-Mail-hating Guardian-sceptics everywhere...

MeAndMyMonkey · 11/09/2007 15:39

It spreads the politics of fear, and wants everyone to be miserable and scared. Also is revoltingly aspirational (ditto Evening Standard with its laughable 'society pages'... like we all want to go to a club with Prince fucking Harry or whoever). Plus of course deeply racist/anti immigration.

I do read Guardian/Indie on a daily basis but they are not without poncy shitiness themselves. However I do like their fashion... sometimes... and property pages in Sat's Guardian. And... Jon Ronson.
And breathe.
Disclaimer - Have been a Times columnist myself but am afraid I would never buy it. If I was indeed right wing, I would read the Telegraph, it is somehow a 'proper' paper.

I know of one person who might notice....they'll struggle when they try to login as me later

UnquietDad · 11/09/2007 15:50

"Society" pages are hilarious. Nigel Dempster and all his stuff (or used to be). "Lady Araminta Thrustle-Fogg, 23, daughter of Piers Thrustle-Fogg, heir to the Spankington fortune, celebrated her birthday on Thursday in traditional style at Annabel's...." Who are these people? Why does anybody care??

Mind you, Baz Bambibigboy's "showbiz" column is just as detached from reality in a different way.

kittylouise · 11/09/2007 15:53

Amanda Platell is one of the columnists (I think it's the DM, I could be wrong, could be the Express) and some of the things she writes are so vile and pernicious it's frightening.

MrsMar · 11/09/2007 16:28

ROFL at cressida and Ivo's 8 Islington terraces knocked in to one Unquietdad...

Thanks God he's stopped doing it now, but who was the DM columnist who ended every day with "pip pip"? Spare me!!

Caroline1852 · 11/09/2007 16:38

Two word perfectly describe my hatred of the Daily Mail: Little Britain (not the comedy show).

UnquietDad · 11/09/2007 16:39

Amanda Platell is my "Person I Feel Grubby For Finding Strangely Hot."

wheelsonthebus · 11/09/2007 16:39

i want to read a paper that genuinely makes me think - not tells me what to think in alarmist headlines and has a total black and white view of the world...ie against working mums, single mums, mothers over 45 having children, women who have had abortions. Every story has to be a row.
Until recently the DM would not publish a picture of a woman if she wasn't wearing a skirt. Life is much more complicated than it ever gives credit for. And stupid health scare stories just make people give up on all the advice out there which is genuinely sound.

Caroline1852 · 11/09/2007 16:39

words !

Boco · 11/09/2007 16:47

Has the daily - mial - o- matic been posted yet?

I like the headline 'will teenage sex lead farmers astray', and 'will immigrants impregnate our pensioners'

God i hate the daily mail. My boss used to read it, and then spout vile scare stories and rantings - it's bile filled shatter.

MeAndMyMonkey · 11/09/2007 16:54

Boco, that is spot on. I got:

WILL ASYLUM SEEKERS KILL BRITAIN'S SWANS?

But I think the DM may have already used it?

Peachy · 11/09/2007 17:05

I got Will gypsies defraud Britains farmers?

Hilarious!

(think they almost did the Swans thing- wasn't there something about how immigrants (ie that band of people undifferentiated by Eu status, legal status or genuine need) were going to eat all the freshwater fish in our lakes 'like what they do in thewir own countries'? Surely thatc ame from the DM)

Peachy · 11/09/2007 17:06

ooooh oooh even better

Do gays ruin the memoy fo Diana?

fabuloso

handlemecarefully · 11/09/2007 17:10

I occasionally read the DM in the gym bar at David Lloyd when the Guardian, Times and Independent have been spirited away by other members. I tend to do so furtively and covertly - rather in the manner of a teenager in possession of a top rack porno mag.

Having read the DM I generally feel dirty afterwards.
