Maybe because the people or should i say "some" of the people who are agaist them make some very sick staements & talk very morbid, i don't think it would work at all.

McEdam · 10/09/2007 22:50

Close, onetrick, but no banana! Am going to have to come up with something else, now though. In true Scooby Doo-stylie 'damn those pesky meddling kids'.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 10/09/2007 22:50

davina you arenmt the only one

2mum · 10/09/2007 22:50

Facts are the kid went missing. Weeks later her dna was found in a hired car You cant say thats not strange.

minorityrules · 10/09/2007 22:51

I will happily hold up my hands and say I reported it

This thread hadn't turned into any speculation when people came on and started throwing insults around

It was reported on a major news channel and someone put it here. The speculation came from Sky

It has gone from 'we don't like tasteless speculation' to 'we don't want ANY talk of this case whatsoever'

People signed on the other thread that they wanted nothing to with any of this, then come on and start provoking. You can't have it both ways

The distaste thing is just another method of ruining conversation and bumping the thread to end it under a different guise

I'd love to show my distaste on other posts but don't se the point if I don't like it, i'll move on

To say you don't want your name bandied around in quotes from newspapers and tarred with the same brush, you werehapy when you managed to get a large part of the McCanns 'find madeleine campaign' in the papers as disgusting (the shrek advert) I would imagine that would hurt them when they found out

This is news, it is being discussed all over and time will tell what the outcome will be, Im sorry that you are all so sensitive that you want all talk of it removed

Jezebeltheharlot · 10/09/2007 22:52

careful 2mum as you are verging on the blood bath!

It is one thing to point out a news item but another thing to have an opinion! and that is where you will be decapitated!!

OP posts:
OneTrickMummy · 10/09/2007 22:52

2Mum Not strange at all - it would be expected - read my post below, of 22.41!!!

Please, read it.

pyjamagirl · 10/09/2007 22:52

REGISTERING MY DISTASTE

Jezebeltheharlot · 10/09/2007 22:53

hear hear Minority!

OP posts:
McEdam · 10/09/2007 22:53

2mum, it's not two equal and opposing groups, like Take That fans vs. East 17. It's people who are addicted to morbid, ill-informed and cruel speculation vs. people who think a little common human decency might go a long way.

Honneybunny · 10/09/2007 22:54

2mum, or read mine.. just below OTM's. not strange at all.

Jezebeltheharlot · 10/09/2007 22:54

OK, Lemon, we get it! Go to bed if you dont like it.

It is on the news and front headlines in all the papers tomorrow. Dont buy a copy though will you?

OP posts:
kitsandbits · 10/09/2007 22:55

If you dont want to go on a thread or you find it distateful then ... DONT CL;ICK ON IT

Its like saying 'I find porn distastful' so Im going to search through every porn site I can look at them , the email the creators saying its gross.

Idiots.

Its a valid piece of NEWs ...in the news section.

AS REPORTED BY SKY - AND ITS BEING DISCUSSED!

handlemecarefully · 10/09/2007 22:55

Registering my distaste.

The reason that this discussion is distasteful for me is that if the McCann's are innocent (and I really do not care to speculate one way or another - I don't have all the 'evidence to hand' and neither does anybody else on this thread!), it is truly heinous that on top of the grievous loss of their daughter, mumsnetters (and others) are speculating/ hinting that they may be responsible for the murder of their own child

Why can't you wait for the justice system to work things through to a conclusion rather than pick over every little titbit like ravenous carrion crows?

OneTrickMummy · 10/09/2007 22:56

MinorityRules, 2Mum and Jezebel:It is unkind and undemocratic to jump to conclusions about serious crimes involving the death of a child if you are working on half-baked 'facts'.

The media love all this - it sells papers. But if you piece together what is really being said, it is much more of a 'non-story'. Please read my post of 22.41 for that perspective.

2mum · 10/09/2007 22:56

I know its not 2 pop groups we`re talking about. I just think some of the opinions are strong (including mine) and it could easily turn nasty. Its been on the news every day for months about the mccanns, its hard not to get involved in talking about them.

handlemecarefully · 10/09/2007 22:57

Rofl at pyjamagirl's post

Jezebeltheharlot · 10/09/2007 22:58

HMC....who is speculating?

It IS ON THE NEWS!!!! I posted it because it IS ON THE NEWS!!

Dont open the thread if you dont like it!

None of us like it but IT IS ON THE NEWS WHICH IS WHY I POSTED IT IN 'IN THE NEWS!'

FGS.

pyjamagirl · 10/09/2007 22:59

NEWS FLASH ON SKY NEWS

just been on we EBOLA is on it's way over apparently shall we all start handwringing and going over the gory details of that now ???

policywonk · 10/09/2007 23:00

Mercy - I think that's about the size of it, yes!

McEdam · 10/09/2007 23:00

I didn't suggest it was two pop groups, I used that analogy to show how the idea that it could all be solved by having one pro-McCan thread and one anti wouldn't work. Because those of us who object to the endless, gleeful speculation aren't doing so because we are the McCanns' best friends but because the most lurid posts have been based on excitement about half-understood and highly speculative half truths. If that, tbh.

OneTrickMummy · 10/09/2007 23:02

Jezebel - yes, it was on the news - but the point is that it stirs up lurid speculation and the facts that were on the news (a complete match) do nothing to incriminate the McCanns.

"From the Science Editor of Observer:
"Scientists may have found her DNA profile in the car her parents were hiring 25 days after she went missing but that tells them nothing about the source of that DNA. A few skin cells from one of Madeleine's toys, such as her 'cuddle cat' which has been carried around by Kate Mccann, could have fallen into the vehicle, for example"

A source close to the Portuguese and British police, in the Observer: "dismissed as 'simply wrong' recent media reports that blood had been found in the car"
"The source said that the DNA from the rental car had come from the interior of the vehicle and not from blood....it 'could have come from any item (such as) clothing, which madeleine had contact with before she went missing"

From the Observer: "Portuguese police, manwhile, last night described as 'absolutely absurd' reports that Kate McCann was offered a plea bargain...The McCanns Portuguese lawyer Carlos Pinto de Abreu, said that the newspaper reports were due to a 'misunderstanding' that had arisen during questioning" .

From the guardian's special feature on the status of Arguido:
"A person of interest to a Portuguese Inquiry....For Portuguese police to ask questions which imply suspicion they are legally compelled to declare the suspect as a formal suspect (which gives them some legal protection). .....Being an arguido does not necessarily signify any degree of guilt*. "

Heathcliffscathy · 10/09/2007 23:04

excitement edam... that's key isn't it?

McEdam · 10/09/2007 23:05

Yup. People getting their rocks off over what is quite possibly the body of a dead child. Nice.
