Registering my distaste.

MrsDoolittle · 10/09/2007 21:09

I used to be a regular poster but I haven't posted in months. I have not looked on this site for months and months.
However, I'm just feeling the need to offload a little, dh is away tonight.
For want of something better to do I watched the coverage of the McCann's coming home last night. I haven't really followed it, I have found it quite traumatising, whatever the outcome.
A little girl not much older than my precious precious little girl has disappeared.

Last night I dreamt about this story, in all the gory, horrible surreal detail that goes with dreams. I woke up sobbing. This is haunting me. I have no idea, I don't think anyone does, of whether the parents are responsible or not. I don't believe any of us are able to judge.
However, I can't help feeling that if they aren't responsible, what a hideous, awful slight on those poor people in their greif. The idea that my desperation in the same circumstances could coincide with suspicion is nothing short of abhorrent. It's haunts me.

Just hate the register of distaste - whats wrong with debabting what's in the news????? or are some people above this and can't be discussed?

I read in the times today the words 'there for the grace of god go I' and I thought - no way as I don't leave my kids (dare I say it's in the news they drugged up their kids)and go out for an evening with my friends.

Hulababy · 10/09/2007 21:17

Registering my distaste.

Report the news on the Madeleine threads, In The News, fine. Make ridiculously over simplified speculative assumption though, and expect people to find that unpleasant and distasteful.

Sky news are well known for reporting "facts" when in fact it is rumour and unsubstantianted. The BBC has yet to report. If full DNA had been found and was conclusive the McCanns would not have been allowed back home I would imiagine.

Quootiepie · 10/09/2007 21:18

I have never posted on these threads but seriously, registering distaste? Grow up! I wouldn't have been watching the news tonight or anything but as a parent I do feel about Madeline and in now way a warped way or morbid facination I do care about any further news. It not odd to be discussing as parents a missing child on a parenting forum - I was be so so mortified if my son went missing and when people showed concern people were 'registering distaste'. It's pathetic.

Hulababy · 10/09/2007 21:19

"whats wrong with debabting what's in the news?????"

Nothing. However as I say below it is the ridiculously over simplified speculative assumptions and claims people here keep trying to make.

Quootiepie · 10/09/2007 21:19
  • no way, not now way

Registering my distaste.

bibibaby · 10/09/2007 21:22

So what? It's a parents' dicussion board for goodness sake - what is more pertinent than discussing the case of a missing UK child??

MrsDoolittle · 10/09/2007 21:24

I have to say I find I'm a little bewildered by the registering distaste thing.

I mean what is said on here is hardly consequential

I came here because I expected to find it in active convos.

Like Quootiepie has siad. I have found myself horribly disturbed by recent events and I have felt the need to offload.

Isn't that what we are all doing?

Mumsnetters are a funny bunch aren't they? Sometimes MN can makes me laugh out loud, other times it makes me weak with gratitiude, other times I simply .......sigh.

bibibaby · 10/09/2007 21:26

it IS sodding breaking news!

WelshBoris · 10/09/2007 21:26

"when people showed concern "

You obviously haven't been reading these threads then QP

Pathetic

kentgirl73 · 10/09/2007 21:27

everyone who is registering their distaste is ovbiously wanting to see these threads as they are always on them - if you arent interested go away!!!

morningpaper · 10/09/2007 21:27

MrsD this topic has been done to death (no pun intended) probably every day that you have been having a ncie MN break

And it isn't inconsequential - a "Mumsnet" poster was quoted in the Guardian yesterday as saying derogatory things about Kate McCann and that is ALWAYS what these threads end up doing

Quootiepie · 10/09/2007 21:28

Have I missed something then? I kinda only read a few posts

bibibaby · 10/09/2007 21:29

well said, MrsDolittle.

morningpaper · 10/09/2007 21:30

bibi there are lots of reliable news sites out there

Sky News is not one

bibibaby · 10/09/2007 21:30

lol at Hulababy registering her distaste and then carrying on the discussion in the same post - priceless!

bobbysmum07 · 10/09/2007 21:30

And can you believe they've deleted my post?

Who are you people?

bibibaby · 10/09/2007 21:31

which post?

Hulababy · 10/09/2007 21:33

bibibaby

You will note that I did not carry on any debate about the McCanns in my post. I commented on why I find the speculation distasteful. I think there is a world of difference there. I have taken no part in speculating over what has and hasn't happened to the little girl. It is that which I find distasteful on MN recently, as I know others do also.

morningpaper · 10/09/2007 21:33

Who are you people?

We're like the Men In Black, but with breasts

morningpaper · 10/09/2007 21:34
Hmm
kentgirl73 · 10/09/2007 21:34

completly agree hulababy

bibibaby · 10/09/2007 21:34

"If full DNA had been found and was conclusive the McCanns would not have been allowed back home I would imiagine."

That is speculation, is it not?
