OP posts:
Kewcumber · 11/09/2007 14:06

is anyone who speculated on the "facts" yesterday going to have the balls to admit the sky report was exaggerated bollocks?

eleusis · 11/09/2007 14:20

Oh I hate when people say "have the balls". Implies I need to be a man to have nerve. Tits, man. I got the tits. (I can't believe I'm talking like this at work ) What am I saying? Everyone talks like this at work.

WendyWeber · 11/09/2007 14:24

Can anyone help me with my exasperating Word problem here please?

I sort of know why it's happening now - on this document the dictionary is set at US English - but I can't see how to unset it, or why it won't let me add words to it (if I change each individual word to UK English it will let me add it to the UK Dict, but it has to be done EVERY TIME THE WORD APPEARS and I can't be arsed)

TIA

haychee · 11/09/2007 14:32

I just wanted to try and bridge the divide between mnetters. A sign up for those who agree not to demoralise another because their views differ from yours. Not to post on eachothers threads that will lead to this endless cycle of, stop it, no you stop it bickering.
Is that really too much to ask?

In response to the journalists are trawling through our posts statement. If you have signed up for the silence means you play in no part of any of it nor agree, it has disassociated all those on the list from anything said on any mm thread.
MNHQ have said to argue on the thread ( but do we really want to be argueing amongst ourselves, name calling etc, i do not, very childish imo) MNHQ, have as i beleive, posted a letter stating this fact that not all Mnetters are of that same opinion.

eleusis · 11/09/2007 14:35

Oi Wendy! You got a problem with US English????? (Spoken in thick Chicago accent with right arm raised as if ready to slap somebody)

Lil · 11/09/2007 14:44

Hmm all these threads on MN and yet not one has mentioned the phrase 'Portugese Paedophile'.

Do they not have them in Portugal then?

morningpaper · 11/09/2007 14:46
Hmm
HorribleHorace · 11/09/2007 14:52

?

ScoobyDooooo · 11/09/2007 14:56

I am sure they do have them like most places, but again why specualte what sort of a person has done this, we don't know who did it, we don't where she is.

Pan · 11/09/2007 14:56

Shouldn't there be an ovarian possession, rather than balls, shurely...

welshdeb · 11/09/2007 15:00

I cant undserstand this. By posting cr*p it keeps this thread on the active convos. If you ignored it wouldn't it die off?

Lil · 11/09/2007 15:01

Well it is rather amazing that in 3 months the portugese police have only named 3 suspects and they are all..wait for it.....English.

Which begs my question..search in the media for the phrase ...portugese paedophile and you won't find it.

As a parent its terrifying to see how easily people will accuse the mother.

what?

Lil · 11/09/2007 15:05

and this is a parenting website, hence I'm keeping to the script.

don't throw the thought proking baby out with the rather scummy bathwater.

Is there anywhere on this site that it is safe to state how truly scary this whole episode is , how vulnerable we are as parents???

How society and the media are so quick to say its our fault!!!!!!!

ScoobyDooooo · 11/09/2007 15:18

Actually the media on this case are making me feel sick, what they state is utter crap, never facts

Aitch · 11/09/2007 15:20

that is such a good point, lil. it is frightening, isn't it? christ, imagine if that was our families...

and i have explained it, LL, on another thread. at 1pm today. haychee has answered that thread (most bizarrely i should say) so it is Quite Clear that she has ignored it in order to further her own trouble-making ends.

"By Aitch on Tue 11-Sep-07 13:03:31
haychee, can i just clarify something about the thread i started? the 'silence' for some of us had been going on from some of us for four months, since Blu's boycott thread.

my thread was a way of reaffirming our distaste for these poxy little half-witted 'news' threads, that's all, not a commmitment to remaining silent forever on the subject.

MNHQ has made it perfectly clear that they think the thing to do is argue the case, so for some people That Changes Things, okay?

seriously, people who get hung up about the whole 'hypocrisy' thing just remind me of Jade Goody's spittle-flecked shouting of 'I HATE LIAHS' while remaining violently unwilling to address her own shortcomings.

i personally have no issue with news stories being discussed, but if your definition of 'news' owes more to Sky News and the Daily Mail than the official statements of the Portuguese police, then i just despair... "

Lil · 11/09/2007 15:21

exactly scoobs, I do feel sick and depressed at what this all says about our society (and that's on top of the original sadness for thye little girl - natch)

am going home to sit in the sun and switch off radio, tv, not pick up a newspaper until xmas.

media behaving well here, hounding the family with cameras

oliveoil · 11/09/2007 15:27

FFS SHE HAS LOST HER DAUGHTER YOU TWATS

if I lived in their village I feel I would be forced to slash some tyres or spray paint a lense or two

LIZS · 11/09/2007 15:30

There are precious few real facts , what has been reported and endlessly discussed on these threads is pure elaboration and conjecture. Give it a rest at least until the formal review has occurred.

Pan · 11/09/2007 15:30

Again not really posting here, they DID announce to the media that they were leaving and what time at. Guessing to keep the story bolstered in the international press where it may have withered. Perhaps.

ScoobyDooooo · 11/09/2007 15:30

Oh the media are the shambles, i certainly would feel like a total freak if it was my job, i feel like going to where the McCann's live & telling the hounding media that are outside there house day & night to fark off & get a life I must add though the portugese media have flown over especially to sit outside the McCann's house too.
