I wish the McCanns would invest their 1 million pound 'Madeleine Fund' in hiring the top private investigators in the world to look for Maddie, since the Portuguese police appears to have given up finding her alive.

That would be the logical usage of the 'fund', right?

crumpet · 11/09/2007 11:52

harpsichordcarrier I don't disagree. I was just frustrated at the notion that the McCann's parenting was clearly crap because they had left the kids - without any acknowledgement that what they did (not commenting on whether or not I agree with it) was not out of the ordinary in that environment.

LIZS take your point in this instance but the listening service is common in many hotels/resorts and no-one seemed to suggest that other parents who use these services should equally be visited by SS...

eleusis · 11/09/2007 11:56

Can someone help me piece together this (ludicrous) theory that Kate accidentally killed Madeleine? How? When? Where? While she was eating dinner at the tapas restaurant? Or was it before dinner and then she went and sat down for dinner with her friends after having killed and disposed of madeleine so cleverly that some 4 months later the body has not been found? And then after she hired a car five weeks later, she then stored the corpse in the car boot. No one noticed and no noe smelled it when the place was crawling with media?

With my limited knowledge (and it is limited) I think it's more likely Madeleine got up and left the flat on her own and when the opportunity presented itself some horrible person abducted her and fled before anyone realised it was an abduction.

Now my theory is probably not very credible but it seems to make more sense than Kate killimg her own daughter and then going for dinner... and Gerry being okay with that.

portonovo · 11/09/2007 11:58

As far as I have heard, the possible involvement of social services at this stage is not to do with leaving the children alone, but because the parents are now the subject of a police investigation. BBC News said that was standard procedure in a case where police were investigating parents.

BarbieGirl · 11/09/2007 11:59

eleuis - I second that. I reckon Madeleine walked out of the appartment too and someone took the opportunity. Poor Kate McCann to be blamed for her disappearance.

Pan · 11/09/2007 12:06

Whilst not posting here..eleusis - I am reading that the theory is that she accidentally gave Madeleine too much sedatory mixture, and then found her dead on 'checking' the children. Though being a Dr ( Ithink) she should know enough to not do this.

But obviously I'm not here.

crumpet · 11/09/2007 12:12

Yes portotovo that may be right my issue is that it has not stopped posters wanting SS to "do something" about the parents leaving the kids. Why only these parents and not every other parent who's done the same?

HorribleHorace · 11/09/2007 12:13

i just don't see how this is possible. the only way it would be possible for them to have disposed of her body is if all their friends are in on it - and I just do not and will not believe that

Peachy · 11/09/2007 12:18

Well its impossible to know, but logic would suggest that if all their friends knew there would have been a resolution much earlier, there's always going to be someone in a large group who informs or is a 'weak link' (in '' so it doesnt look if I'm using the phrase as a criticism when telling would clearly be right!).

McEdam · 11/09/2007 12:21

The idea that she found her child dead and then went to ludicrous lengths to hide the body is just bizarre, though. How on earth would she have managed that with the eyes of the world's media on her?

eleusis · 11/09/2007 12:27

And how on Earth could any mother go and sit down to dinner with her friends after having killed and disposed of her daughter. I mean one heck of an actress that would be.

Also, I remember at the very begining when they finally brought in sniffer dogs, that traced madeleine's scent down the street to where there was a small shop and lost it there. So early on it was suggested the she may have gotten up on her own.

Just think the Kate killed and made her vanish story to be rather far fetched.

And I do suspect the portuguese police are quite capable concocting this story and making them suspects to get them to go home. It is know that their presense in Portugal was no longer welcome and that they were determined to stay anyway.

haychee · 11/09/2007 12:27

Honestly. Some people should just stay away from these threads, theyve all signed a pact of silence over any mm thread and by doing so have disassociated themselves from anything that the rest of might want to discuss.

WHY DONT YOU ALL GO ELSEWHERE IF YOU DONT LIKE TO HEAR OUR DISCUSSIONS??

Ive been diplomatic to these MM thread haters, ive apologised to them and been honest and sincere, but its really getting on my tits now, the names on their "list" are reappearing here, which makes the list a joke, a farce and total waste of time.

I agree with madamez they are sabbotaging this thread with bumping under a different guise.

Maybe we should start a "list" of our own to balance out those for and those against MM threads. Or to pull us all together a "list" of those who are middle of the road, or an agreement to say, "i sign below to state once and for all that i agree not to become involved in discussions which are not on my level, or my opinion is to that extreme oppposite of the thread title. I promise not to sabbotage, not to post or become argumentative to anyone on any MN thread who i find is being distastful"

Someone else will probobly choose a better wording, but i think the time has come to settle this, and stop the divide that is ever increasing.

NotOnTheFence · 11/09/2007 12:30

"i think the time has come to settle this, and stop the divide that is ever increasing"

Absolutely fantastic post HAYCHEE since you are one of the most divisive posters on Mumsnet.

Quick quick though, there are at least 3 other McCann threads you need to scurry off and post on.

ruty · 11/09/2007 13:01

There is obviously still a gap in the market for a gladiator ring. Plenty of wannabee spectators her. [I wasn't going to post but Haychee's rather annoying habit of deciding who can post where has rather f*cked me off]

eleusis · 11/09/2007 13:08

there there, Ruty.

Now see what you've done haycee. You've gone and made Ruty swear.

pooka · 11/09/2007 13:10

knitting at the guillotine

ruty · 11/09/2007 13:11

LOL pooka.
I beg your pardon eleusis! Certainly not the first time I've sworn!
[damn, posted again]

Peachy · 11/09/2007 13:13

hark at ruty trying to be big

'I swear all the time AND i go on the 'ardest threads'

eleusis · 11/09/2007 13:17

Ah, but do you have a two year old whose current favourite word is "fuck"?

DH says it's my fault. I don't know what he is talking about.

ruty · 11/09/2007 13:23

I'm well ard, me. Sometimes. If someone big and on my side is standing in front of me. Ds's favourite phrase is 'oh bottoms' which is what we've used to replace 'fuck' in our post child household. Not actually sure if that's an improvement.

eleusis · 11/09/2007 13:29

DS doesn't realise it is an expression of anger or frustration. It's just a word that's fun to say. I was carrying him in boots last weekend, he pointed at the shelf in the same sort of excitement as if Thomas had been on the shelf and said "Oh Fuck!" At which point I thought to myself "oh fuck" in the true sense of the expression.

ruty · 11/09/2007 13:29

It is a very satisfying word unfortunately.

LIZS · 11/09/2007 13:37

but haychee the journalists who are undoubtedly trawling the internet in search of a new take on old news, in the absence of anything offical donlt see those abstaining , just this circular, ever increasingly sensationalist "discussion".

Kewcumber · 11/09/2007 13:53

I love the idea that people registering their disapproval are bumping the thread - only on 349 and they been at it all day and nioght so far
