Easyjet flight refunds

Anyone else having difficulty obtaining a refund for their Easyjet flights? It is widely reported that you can obtain a refund by going to Manage Booking. However there is no option to obtain a refund, only to change your flight to a different one (and who the heck knows how to plan that one?!). The flight I have is to Spain on 31 March and clearly this will be cancelled. Is anyone else having a problem finding the elusive option to get a refund (are Easyjet actually not providing refunds because of Cashflow problems?). TIA for any information you may have.

I’m the same. My flight to Geneva this Sunday has been cancelled. I got an email saying I could either get a refund or change the flight. I have been on the website, and can’t see any way of getting a refund - only to change the flight to another.

Call to Customer services and there is a just a lengthy recorded message, then they tell you to try to phone back later.

I am hoping that I will be able to claim it back on my credit card.

After having been on hold last week to Easyjet for 2 hours 1 minute, twice, and the line just cut dead after that exact time, I gave up and filled in the “contact us” web form to ask for a refund. The online chat facility is literally always “sorry, all our operators are busy”.

I also couldn’t find a way to request a refund under “manage my booking” (but then I last looked a few days ago, I guess it’s possible they’ve now added that?)

HappyHammy · 20/03/2020 22:34

Can you claim through travel insurance. Ive got a flight booked with them in may but reckon i will need to cancel

mummytooneprincess · 20/03/2020 22:34

We were due to fly with easyJet on Sunday. I kept logging in to manage my booking but it was a good few days after the foreign office changed their travel advice before there was an option for a refund. I am however yet to receive my refund......hopefully it's in progress!

roses2 · 20/03/2020 22:38

I think they have cash flow issues - they announced today they have put many staff on unpaid leave for three months.

Soontobe60 · 20/03/2020 22:52

I believe you can access a refund through the app. Just looking at it now, it says you will receive an email with details. If you go on the flight tracker it will give you the status of your flight when you put the flight number in.

TaylorConrad · 21/03/2020 05:57

On flight tracker it only gives you the status of your flight in the next 3 days. So if your flight is further away than that you don’t seem to be able to request a refund. Is this to help them stagger refunds? The board of Easyjet have just (or just about to) paid a massive dividend payment to shareholders (£160m I think it was). They said they were legally obliged to pay it. In the circumstances it doesn’t sit well.

There is absolutely nowhere on the App to request a refund. I eventually found the 'contact us' portal (v hard to find) and have requested a refund, although I don't hold out much hope.

Fortunately we have travel insurance and I paid by credit card.

Our booking is next weekend , not yet cancelled by EJ and so far the only option offered is to transfer for no fee to flights at a later date. They have released winter schedules with restricted access and prices until Tuesday but will these flights even run by then , given the ongoing uncertainty and a likely tourism crisis.

bruffin · 21/03/2020 08:19

last week they was a refund button. I had booked through expedia and wasnt sure on whether to go to easyjet or expedia so have held off (flying to barcelona 29th) until the 7 days before requested by expedia.

Lepetitpiggy · 21/03/2020 08:25

We were informed last week that our flights to Portugal next Monday were cancelled and there was a place to request a refund and it went through straight away! Still haven't received it mind...this was on the website.

Aragog · 21/03/2020 08:31

I am awaiting EasyJet cancelling our flight to France too.

We were supposed to fly in 10 days to Paris.
We had one email to say that they've changed the plane so our seats may no longer be valid.
Another email tells us we can change our flights - but we've no idea where and when we want to fly later this year. It was a specific trip for DD's 18th so not one that can just be changed esp as she will be off to university in the summer.

We just want to cancel.
To be honest I'd almost settle for a credit note, to be used in the next couple of years as it would be better than nothing. But I don't want to try and guess where and when to go right now!

Even Ryanair are issuing refunds now but not EasyJet it seems!

Izabela86 · 21/03/2020 08:38

Same here. Our flight to Spain is booked for 30th March and can’t get a refund. Called EasyJet yesterday and was told that for now it looks like the flight is going to take off on the 30th. They will only refund if it doesn’t.
We also don’t want to rearrange as who knows if EasyJet will be still operating in the future, what if they go boost?! The advisor told us to call back next week as they will be cancelling more flights then.
I checked yesterday and people could still book those flights to Spain for the 30th! Madness

LIZS · 21/03/2020 09:01

Ours was also for a specific event, now cancelled. BA who our return flight was with are offering a credit voucher and have now cancelled it so will possibly refund, but EJ seem to still be selling seats. As it is internal UK travel it is not subject to any FCO advise. Guess we wait until tomorrow and see if situationchanges.

That option was there last week , it has disappeared now. As I said i hesitated about pushing the refund button as i actually booked through Expedia and was waiting for them to sort out. According to expedia the flights are going ahead but it was cancelled over a week ago.

Chewbecca · 21/03/2020 10:29

I have a flight to Jersey booked on Sun 29th. Waiting to hear from them, only heard so far that I can postpone which I don’t want to, who knows when we will be ready to go on such a break.

Woofwoofwooof · 21/03/2020 10:42

I'm due to travel next weekend which obviously won't happen now and want a refund too. Wish they'd hurry up as I'd lost hundreds with Flybe and haven't had that claim go through yet. So I'm down nearly a thousand pounds...small fry to some facing difficulties but not amazing for me at this time.

TaylorConrad · 26/03/2020 11:27

Update: It seems to me that Easyjet are playing a game of cat and mouse with us. They say you can claim a refund but then send you all around the houses to find where, culminating in the ‘please phone our Customer Services’ which you can’t get through to. Then you are left in a position of ‘who blinks first’ as you wait for an illusive ‘Refund’ button to appear. My flight to Spain on 31 March has today been cancelled. I have traced through all the pages on the site to obtain a refund. This ends with ‘phone Customer Services’. Which you can’t get through to. Very poor. So they are hoping I will change the flight to an alternative (no way of knowing when that would be appropriate) or just forget altogether in the general mayhem of life at the moment, and they get off Scot free. Lack of ethos. We will remember all this when we get to the otherside. So glad the shareholders got their £160M payout just as the [sh*t] was hitting the fan. I have taken a snapshot of the final point you end up at on the website when you want a refund for a cancelled flight, but they only want to waste your time and time you out.

Yes, Izabela, it is total nonsense. They know the flights are not going. They hold off as long as they can before admitting that the flight is cancelled. They say you can get a refund. But the so-called refund button appears and disappears. You waste a lifetime trying to get through to customer services, and if you have the patience and get to speak to someone, they just tell you to call back on another day. They simply want you to re-book another flight or give up altogether because you are so exhausted from just getting through the whole coronavirus situation. At a time when people are under huge financial stress, they are sitting on our money whilst paying out to their own shareholders as though coronavirus should mess up everything else but not the shareholder payout which they were ‘bound’ to keep to because it had ‘already been decided’. Pathetic quite frankly.

EasyJet cancelled my flights to Germany (due to fly Sunday) nearly 4 weeks ago. I was told refund would take 3-5 days. Still haven’t got it-about £200. Not looking good.

NigellaAwesome · 26/03/2020 12:46

I found the 'contact us' web form and sent a message that way, ensuring I screenshot yes the message before I sent it, and the confirmation screen immediately after. They didn't even bother to notify me that my return flight from Geneva had been cancelled.

I'm planning to claim on my insurance, but suspect I won't get anywhere with them either.

TaylorConrad · 26/03/2020 13:37

@trockodile Did you phone Easyjet customer services yourself to request a refund? Just curious how you managed to get to the point of expecting one, let alone 3-5 working days? Any tips? Txs.

Compare Easyjet with eg Airbnb. Airbnb instigated full refunds which came in short order. Of course, they only had the service fee to lose. The owners were the ones who lost out and many of them are furious about it. But Airbnb keep the goodwill of guests.

Taylor
When easyjet cancelled my flight on 16th for 29th the email said we could have a refund and in manage booking there was a request refund button. I had booked flight and hotel through Expedia so was waiting for them to get to me but wished now I had clicked at the time

trockodile · 26/03/2020 14:08

@TaylorConrad
I requested the cancellation by button on the website-very easy as easyJet had cancelled flight, so no question of them not refunding. After a few days, when there was no refund, I phoned to check as the card I paid on (visa debit from my bank) was out of date. Customer services advisor said, no problem. Refund would still be paid as long as bank account still active. She said should take 3-5 days from the date I asked for it. Haven’t heard anything since! Really hoping it’ll be ok for us all 🤞🏽
