Easyjet flight refunds

Anyone else having difficulty obtaining a refund for their Easyjet flights? It is widely reported that you can obtain a refund by going to Manage Booking. However there is no option to obtain a refund, only to change your flight to a different one (and who the heck knows how to plan that one?!). The flight I have is to Spain on 31 March and clearly this will be cancelled. Is anyone else having a problem finding the elusive option to get a refund (are Easyjet actually not providing refunds because of Cashflow problems?). TIA for any information you may have.

I can’t even work out if my flight is cancelled or not, let alone find where to ask for a refund!

I’m not working tomorrow so plan to tackle this!

Meant to be flying to Poland on 5th April. I know our flight will be cancelled as Polish airspace is closed and will be when we are due to fly. Managed to get through to customer services yesterday. Was repeatedly told “we are a non refundable airline” and that I could have my taxes refunded only - £26! Whilst I was being put on hold as advisor kept checking things with his manager I came across a page that advised to wait until they cancel the flight (at present it looks to still be running, you can check in etc). When he came back on the line I said I’d wait and see if the status of the flight changed then proceed accordingly. They don’t make it easy, the rotters!

I had a flight cancelled, I had to go into manage my booking and there was a refund or change flight option. I got the money through about a week later.

So i have just had an email from Sleazy Jet telling me my flight is cancelled and I have taken a screenshot of the page that says I can get a full refund, but there is nowhere to do this and when I called the 'Helpline' a recorded message told me they are very busy and hung up on me.

I will keep checking back on website but looks like I will have to claim through travel insurance.

Rafflesway · 26/03/2020 17:03

Just bear in mind Vargas if you claim via insurance you will lose the excess which will probably be £75 per person. 😡. (Obviously happy days for EasyJet as they then get to keep all your money. Grr.)

If the total refund you are awaiting is in excess of £100 and you paid by credit card, you may be better trying to make a Section 75 claim through your credit card provider.

Good luck! 👍

@Vargas same situation here. EJ have finally cancelled Sunday's flight this afternoon but still only offering transfer not refund. We booked via expedia.

Vargas · 26/03/2020 17:14

@Rafflesway - good point re: excess, I hadn't thought of that. I will look into credit card method too. Thank you!

@LIZS good luck with yours!

Rafflesway · 26/03/2020 17:18

EasyJet unfortunately are not alone in this behaviour.

They are desperately hoping people will claim on insurance thereby leaving them loss free. 👹👹👹

DeadBod · 26/03/2020 17:21

I'm having the same problem. I have a holiday booked with Jet2 and was due to fly next Monday. I've had an email to say it's cancelled but no mention of a refund only to option to delay/rebook.
I read on another thread that people have had thier refunds on the date they were due to fly so I'm waiting to see what happens next week. I don't want to rebook or have a credit voucher.

SuziGeo · 26/03/2020 17:21

I was able to request a refund but only the day before the flight was due to go last week. They left it until the day before to cancel it and I was holding off changing my dates cause with the uncertainty I'd rather get my money back and book something once I know it's definitely safe to travel again.

LIZS · 26/03/2020 17:21

@Rafflesway , agree , so far BA are only offering vouchers. Our flights were EJ out, BA back.

mummytooneprincess · 26/03/2020 17:23

Almost a week has passed since I commented on this thread and I'm still waiting.......logged back into manage my booking and it simply says refund is in progress. I too have tried to call them (recorded message ending with call back later), live chat closed. So frustrating!

Rafflesway · 26/03/2020 17:35

Apparently many airlines and tour operators are awaiting the nod from the Government to purely offer credit notes or amendments, rather than cash refunds, to keep them afloat. (I am retired senior travel industry so still receive regular updates.)

I have an expensive holiday booked for end of May. I can't amend as already have another long haul trip booked for early November.

My concern with the credit notes is that if the airline/tour operator goes bust then the voucher becomes worthless. Apparently ABTA are approaching the government to ask them to underwrite any travel credit notes issued thereby making them fully financially protected.
Hopefully the government will agree to this in order to keep the whole industry from collapsing. 🙁

DeadBod · 26/03/2020 17:50

I commented on this thread at 17.21 and thought I'd give Jet2 another go on live chat. After not being able to get on all week, I got through instantly and have managed to get a refund. The money will take 14 to 28 days. Result.

Rafflesway · 26/03/2020 18:42

Well done DeadBod! 👍👍👍

TaylorConrad · 26/03/2020 19:22

Aaah, thank you Rafflesway. That would indeed explain a lot as to why Easyjet (and no doubt other airlines) are hiding in a smokescreen of disappearing refund buttons, deadend helplines and obscure webpage links that take you on a wild goose chase leading exactly....nowhere. They are killing time waiting to be bailed out by the Govt. hence you have only a small chance of getting a refund - by holding your nerve in the last 3 days or so before your flight would be due to depart (even though you already know it has been cancelled). Or by hoping your call to Customer Seevices goes through and reaches a sympathetic employee who has not yet learnt how to stonewall you. Anything but give you back hard cash. That cash could be someone’s food shop who has lost their job. They can’t eat a credit note.

My easyjet flight is now cancelled and it says I can be refunded but I cannot see how. Is the only way by calling them?

Vargas · 27/03/2020 10:44

Good luck with that Chewbacca, I tried yesterday and they just told me to call back later and hung up. Angry

Chewbecca · 27/03/2020 11:13

Yep, you get a recorded message and it hangs up.

Seems the button on the app / website to request a refund that was there last week has gone.

Vargas · 27/03/2020 11:32

It's infuriating, but not much we can do, I'm certainly not rebooking any flights, I will wait until the dates for the flights have passed and then contact credit card company, followed by travel insurance if no joy with cc.

CathyorClaire · 27/03/2020 12:05

Our flight (10th April) was cancelled when Spain went into lockdown. Booked via Travel Republic who have offered a credit note valid for six months. I asked for a refund instead but haven't heard anything back.
Would rather have a credit note than nothing but still half expecting nothing.

Vargas · 27/03/2020 17:44

I am not interested in a credit note or rebooked flights, EJ could easily go under and it would be worthless....

LIZS · 27/03/2020 18:40

Tried to get through to EJ but they close at 5pm. The options available when going through to Manage Disruption are a "choice" of transfer or voucher. You can't even see the potential value of any voucher. Nor from BA who have sent voucher codes to rebook in future, but no contact number to do so as not able to online. Expedia equally not available to help and direct you to airlines.

Vargas · 28/03/2020 10:12

Air Canada made it very easy, just clicked a button and they sent confirmation that full value of flight could be used for future booking, although slight confusion over whether it is by end of March next year or for 24 months.

I'm tempted just to grab the EJ voucher, as there is some chat online that ABTA/ATOL will guarantee the amount. Plus I think the chances of getting a refund are now looking increasingly remote.

Vargas · 28/03/2020 11:43

So just found out EJ vouchers are only valid for 6 months so completely useless for me.
