It appears the children and teacher have been found alive.
Has a miracle happened ?
I am so delighted and hope they will be ok after their horrific ordeal.
It's always nice to see good news as lately all the headlines are of something bad having happened.
Please forgive me if there is already a thread on this topic.

The video on that Telegraph link is extraordinary, i'm having a little sob here at my computer.

AdventuresRUs · 11/07/2018 09:09

They'd tested it at a simulated choke point apparently. And had a model inflatable one to test it before trying it. I think had they been genuinely unable to get a boy to manage the diving gear it may have been used. It was incredible how quickly it was designed and made and Stantons emails show is was wanted - Musk said he'd back off if it wasnt.

He may well not be perfect in many ways but in this case lots of people asked him for help and he helped uaing the knowledge and resources available to him.

It certainly seemed unlikely the boys were going to be able to dive out. It was an incredible rescue.

cathyandclare · 11/07/2018 09:21

Totally agree adventures if the smallest boy had struggled to dive, this was the back up. When Musk asked if he should stop, the UK diver clearly thought it was worth pursuing, as a plan B.

Thank goodness it wasn't needed.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 11/07/2018 09:26

I can imagine the submarine being useful if someone is seriously injured, perhaps with a broken bone, in a flooded cave incident and they just can't attempt diving and it's actually dangerous for them to move.

Pupsiecola · 11/07/2018 12:59

Good point outwith. For all we know the pod may save a life in the future (let's hope it's not needed).

TwitterQueen1 · 11/07/2018 13:00

Interesting that they're now saying the children were sedated, which would explain why they were stretchered out and there were no photos. We knew they were strapped to the 2nd diver already.

Makes complete sense. The danger / probability of those children panicking would have meant probable death for them and the divers. Amazing team effort and such bravery all round.

Pupsiecola · 11/07/2018 13:02

I loved the video of the Thai engineers dancing yesterday. They were the ones who had set up dams to help control the water flow. So many amazing people involved in the rescue.

I bet the British doctors get a Pride of Britain award.

Pupsiecola · 11/07/2018 13:04

I thought they had anti-anxiety meds rather than sedation?

TwitterQueen1 · 11/07/2018 13:05

Sky is saying the children were 'sleeping'

BrazzleDazzleDay · 11/07/2018 13:12

No way would they have been sleeping.

Propranolol reduces your fight or flight response, which seems sensible for the boys. I take it everyday and god damn i would still shit myself.

Destinysdaughter · 11/07/2018 13:19

Lovely article in the Guardian here, moved me to tears

Pupsiecola · 11/07/2018 15:42

More details and some footage of the boys :-)

www.theguardian.com/news/2018/jul/11/thailand-cave-rescue-water-pumps-failed-just-after-last-boy-escaped

Pupsiecola · 11/07/2018 16:01

I won't link to it but there is a really article on the Daily Fail. It has a long video and shows one of the boys coming through the cave in a stretcher, looking sedated. It also says they used high-wires to move the stretchers over the top of the water in some places, so that they didn't have to dive in the really deep places. The more I read about it, the more incredible I find it.

Pupsiecola · 11/07/2018 16:14

Some of these videos Shock.

peridito · 11/07/2018 17:55

Just watched some CNN voiced clips and they are saying that the sign the boys are making is a sign common in Thailand for OK ,as in they're signing to people that they are ok .

And if you look carefully you can see that they are forming an O with thumb and finger and then holding 2 other fingers up .

Hope they can exchange hugs soon .Hope the coach has someone to hug him ,I wonder how he feels seeing the love from the parents to their children .

Sorry ,I can visualise the closing scenes of the film already....

StealthPolarBear · 11/07/2018 18:09

The BBC is reporting they were sedated, yet plenty of people said that was impossible. Odd.

Pupsiecola · 11/07/2018 19:10

I imagined them all in isolation, ie in a room each. My heart melted when I saw them all together. Eight in that one room? The youngest was all cuddled up, sleeping. They will forever have an amazing bond. May they live full and happy lives.

StealthPolarBear · 11/07/2018 19:13

Why are their parents being prevented from seeing them though? Surely there are people in much more weakened States who see their loved ones, cancer patients etc.
I'm happy the right calls are being made, owuld just be good to understand

bluerunningshoes · 11/07/2018 19:26

it's because of infection control.

bats are infamous for carrying deadline viruses and spreading disease.
plus there will be fungal spores in damp cold cave air which can cause nasty and difficult to treat lung infections.

StealthPolarBear · 11/07/2018 19:28

Right, so more than the average nasties. Ugh, hope they're all OK. Once they've cone through this they can do anything :o

Clairetree1 · 11/07/2018 19:29

there is no treatment for rabies, it is fatal every time, I don't know what the incubation period is, but no point taking any chances.

StealthPolarBear · 11/07/2018 19:31

I'd not even considered rabies. But yes good point.

StealthPolarBear · 11/07/2018 19:34

Though nhs UK says its not transferred between people.

bluerunningshoes · 11/07/2018 19:35

the only treatment for rabies is vaccination.
but that needs to happen very soon after a bite.
