The old thread takes too long to load.

Lets hope this is the one that contains the good news that she has been found alive and well.

OP posts:

my dd's nana wants to take her to Portugal in the summer. NO WAY!!

jenk1 · 25/05/2007 12:49

Madelienes parents are talking to sky news today at 5pm in an exclusive interview

paulaplumpbottom · 25/05/2007 13:55

You won't catch me going there either

hercules1 · 25/05/2007 14:05

WHy wouldnt you?

TenaLady · 25/05/2007 14:10

Sadly, my dh has come to the conclusion that the McCanns came to check the apartment during dinner and found Maddy gone, probably let herself out and wandered the streets.

McCanns panicked and set the scene as if it were a break in!

Child picked up, possibly knocked down wandering the streets.

Sounds awful!

hercules1 · 25/05/2007 14:11

I am going to run from this thread now!

TenaLady · 25/05/2007 14:12

I am not enjoying the coverage and frankly sick of seeing the parents who seem very 'altogether' given the circumstances.

I think I am watching a soap drama at the moment.

paulaplumpbottom · 25/05/2007 14:13

I think there is a chance of something happening like this anywhere.

I want to be in a place where if it does happen the police are going to be competant.

binkleandflip · 25/05/2007 14:16

We are going to portugal end of june - I am taking my dd who is 5 (my husband has to stay here to work) and we are meeting up with lots of family. I've no worries at all about taking her there than I would about taking her anywhere tbh.

binkleandflip · 25/05/2007 14:17

Paula, I take your point about police competancy. It's unfortunate that the alarm wasn't raised earlier or I think they may have had a better chance at tracing her perhaps. At the same time, we dont know whats going on behind closed doors I suppose

SisterOfSoapbox · 25/05/2007 14:23

As you probably know, there have been numerous reports about the Portugese refusing the use of British Sniffer Dogs in the hunt for Madeline. This is despite their world wide reputation for being particularly well trained for this type of job. Time is running out for their use as the optimum period is 28 days. A petition has been started to be sent to the Portugese Embassy in London asking them to reconsider this decision in an effort to find her.

Please sign the petition here and pass the link on to others.

Time is short to do this but at least it may be worth a try.

binkleandflip · 25/05/2007 14:27

I would sign it but I dont believe it will have any influence I'm afraid. I'm sure the Portuguese are employing their methods of crime detection as per their countries laws etc and I suspect they are resisting 'assistance' from Britain on principle to that effect. In some ways I can defend that.

TaylorsMummy · 25/05/2007 14:46

it does feel like they have given up on her, almost as tho they did from the beginning.they weren't fast enough and they let whoever had her get her wherever they wanted her.it is so sad.her parents must feel so let down

cocopops · 25/05/2007 15:00

have signed the petition. This is probably a daft comment BUT where is Gordon Brown when you need him. He said he'd do anything- can't he apply diplomatic pressure OR SOMETHING?????

paulaplumpbottom · 25/05/2007 16:04

Maybe Tony could take a break from his tour to do something

Wolfgirl · 25/05/2007 16:18

Now we're all having a laugh. this is not something politicians would get involved with, and the only reason GB portrayed an interest, was becaue it fell slap righ bang in the middle of his 'hand-over' - and wanted to be seen as the peoples person.

I think that what this case has and will do, is highlight how a series and often this crime happens.

Unless it does happen to someone like GB or TB, they aint gonna really get involved - hey!

Lets hope for two things: 1. that it does raise awareness of such heinous crimes, 2. Madeleine is found, very soon, safe and well.

xx

paulaplumpbottom · 25/05/2007 17:19

Is this not their job?

Wolfgirl · 25/05/2007 17:30

try again....

UK experts join Madeleine investigation

Oh, and heard the McCanns being interviewed on REAL radio; they were asked such questions as to why they thought it OK to leave the kids; they replied that it was no different than them being at home being in the garden, the complex was so small, and close to the appartment etc;

Kate was asked if she felt guilty about leaving them, and she replied Yes in the early days, but as time passed, she drew strength from all the support and councilling she was given.

ah, bless them. Horrid thing to happen.

kimi · 25/05/2007 17:42

The poor mother looks as if she is going to break at any moment, every time I see her on the news she looks like a little girl herself, I have yet to hear her speak, dad seems to be dealing with all the press and stuff.

Wolfgirl · 25/05/2007 17:46

OH MY GOODNESS

.....Figures from the National Missing Person's Helpline show that between May 3 and May 15, 450 young people were reported missing in the UK !!!!!

Eleusis · 25/05/2007 17:47

Young people? Does mean toddlers or teenagers?

paulaplumpbottom · 25/05/2007 17:48

How many of those are runaways

Wolfgirl · 25/05/2007 17:56

Paula/Ele, no idea to both questions; sad though hey!

paulaplumpbottom · 25/05/2007 17:57

Almost all of them I would imagine, missing toddlers make the news
