The old thread takes too long to load.

Lets hope this is the one that contains the good news that she has been found alive and well.

OP posts:

Xenia, sorry but that's not quite correct. According to the news earlier, the car was hired on the 12th May, not the night of the disappearance and apparently the police do not see it as significant - in fact, the car is now hired out to someone else and has not been examined. There is a void under the living room in Murat's house, not the Russian's and it is there because the house was built on a hill. It was the press who started calling it a 'secret room', implying something more sinister.

I think if we start speculating on information that is not even what's reported, it will only start another flame filled afternoon, God forbid.

(I did not google this btw )

BigPantsRule · 18/05/2007 15:24

I can't understand why the police allowed Robert Murat to work as an interpreter on this case in the first place. As someone living close to the incident he could easily have been connected to the case (even if it transpires that he isn't). He even translated witness statements FGS! IMO the police should have politely refused his offer of assistance and called upon one of their pool of official interpreters.

imaginaryfriend · 18/05/2007 15:31

BPR, I don't think the police are fools. They will be thinking of everything.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 18/05/2007 15:32

Bigpantsrule, The police would not have elt him work for them. I think he was just working with the media, and not in an official capacity, just helping them out.

mumemma · 18/05/2007 15:37

I think he was doing some interpreting for Sky which explains a lot!

yellowsnow · 18/05/2007 15:39

And taking his glass eye in and out

CoteDAzur · 18/05/2007 15:57

BigPantsRule - Praia da Luz is extremely small. Even including Lagos, the area is tiny. Any bilingual person they find as interpreter could be involved.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 18/05/2007 16:03

But never in an official capacity. The police don't just use anyone as an interpreter fgs.

Judy1234 · 18/05/2007 16:21

Yiou're right, 12th May.

"It was also revealed that Mr Murat behaved strangely while hiring a car in Praia da Luz after he realised he was under surveillance. The parttime estate agent owns at least two cars along with his mother. A document obtained from the local car hire firm in Praia da Luz, Auto Rent III Algarve, appears to show that he rented a Hyundai car from 12 May to the following Tuesday. He gave his former wife's address in Hockering, Norfolk, rather than his own in the Algarve, but listed his Portuguese mobile number. A member of staff at the car hire firm was so suspicious he called police. They had already put Mr Murat under surveillance and were tailing his two cars. "

Surprised they didn't examine the car though

thirtiesmum · 18/05/2007 16:24

I thought the police admitted he had worked as an interpreter for them during the early stages of the case.
iam sure they said this in a press conference.

jimmyjamas · 18/05/2007 18:44

Can someone please tell me in a nutshell what is happening in the case? My kids have got nick junior on and I haven't watched the news at all today.

What's happening with Murat and the Russian.

Something was mentioned about a sighting of Madeleine in Morrocco.

Thanks

Oenophile · 18/05/2007 21:40

"It emerged today that initial forensic results at Mr Murat's villa - 100 yards from where Madeleine was kidnapped - have failed to find any trace of the toddler.

Clothing, hair and soil samples found by specialist search teams at Villa Liliana, where Mr Murat lives with his mother, were sent to a laboratory on Monday night.

Police sources said today they had "not confirmed suspicions about the British suspect".

sparklygothkat · 18/05/2007 22:03

has anyone seen this?? I hope it was her

bobby2 · 18/05/2007 22:07

I had to fast forward up to this, couldn't believe what was going on before.

ScoobyDooooo · 18/05/2007 22:50

Just seen that on the news SGK & the women who thinks she saw her is pretty adament it was her, she said she is 99.9% sure it was her...

I actually feel very very sad especially after she said she thought thr ittle girl said "when am i going to see my mummy" my heart breaks for little Madeleine, i wish she was back home safe

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 18/05/2007 22:52

. it just all sounds too .. dunnow.. why would the woman remember the child saying something like "can I see mummy soon", if she thought it was suspicious wouldn't she have reported it regardless of whether a child was missing? the whole story just sounds ve to me.

on the other hand, if it's true, it's not necessarily good news. If I wanted to lose a child, Africa would be the perfect place to do it. so much desert, so many little tribal villages where there's no tv, no radio, no news... you could take a child to africa and never be found.

ScoobyDooooo · 18/05/2007 22:59

i am off to bed, night all x

TwirlyN · 18/05/2007 23:01

don't believe that mutton for one minute. She's got her pic in the papers, she might get a new shag, now throw her in the dungeons.

bobby2 · 18/05/2007 23:15

shame on you. go to bed

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 19/05/2007 07:49

I'd imagine the police have received thousands of calls from people claiming they've seen Madeleine. Just not all have contacted the media as well... sadly the talk of £2.5 m rewards probably bring all sorts out of the woodwork.

Maybe I'm just scinical but her story just sounds too implausible to me, esp the fact she hadn't even mentioned it to her husband until she saw the picture.. even though it appeared to upset her so much. nope ve about that.

Judy1234 · 19/05/2007 09:32

Not sure I'd hide a blonde in Morocco but worth following up. For example someone should now look at the CCTV at that garage in Morocco surely if it's not been destroyed and put up some notices around there asking if anyone remembers anything from that day.

littlemissbossy · 19/05/2007 15:10

Search for Madeleine extended this weekend to addresses in England

jimmyjamas · 19/05/2007 18:56

I don't think the portuguese police have got a clue.

If I were the McCanns, I would hire a private inestigator/s.

LIZS · 19/05/2007 19:02

is that an informed comment jimmyjamas ? Frankly we have no right to know what the Portuguese police are and are not following up as part of their criminal investigation and media hype about what they perceive as lines of enquiry not being investigated are unhelpful and speculative. Even in UK witness statements are not generally made fully public whilst the investiagtion is ongoing.

BigPantsRule · 19/05/2007 19:14

So would I. And I wouldn't let too many people know about it.
