The old thread takes too long to load.

Lets hope this is the one that contains the good news that she has been found alive and well.

OP posts:
schmirdle · 17/05/2007 12:40

That is not the point of my post actually. What I'm shocked by is the lack of kindness and sensitivity a lot of you lot have displayed, and I think it's awful.
FYI I'm not cheesy either..no need to get nasty

LazyLine · 17/05/2007 12:41

This thread is unbelieveable!

Dreams? Google solving the crime? Thinking that a poster might get a BBC interview for sending them something that they dug up on the internet? Really?

Trying to "own" the thread? Telling people to leave if they post anything you don't like?

You aren't trying to help, you're trying to make yourselves feel better. Stop lambasting people that oppose you and take a look at yourselves. You are not out, posting flyers, organising searches, donating money or helping in any way. You are fuelling the ridiculous circus that surrounds events like this.

Honestly! You are turning this into a show. Stop it.

AitchTwoOh · 17/05/2007 12:41

i think you'll find the lot of them are going on about psychics now, rhuby, it's not just this one. it's being treated like a sudoku puzzle but with more jeopardy, or an episode of colombo.i was against deleting the threads before but now everyone's gone sufficiently mental to merit it, i think.

NKF · 17/05/2007 12:42

I said the insult was cheesy not you.

expatinscotland · 17/05/2007 12:42

Actually I wish MN would just ban all mention of this the way SWMNB went.

Wolfgirl · 17/05/2007 12:43

This thread is two-fold:

  1. news of Madeleine
  2. people to discuss/speculate (if need be) what news has been released

If in that discussion, people want to speculate, let them. Its called democracy - a free will to do as one pleases. The recent posts on here, are set out to control, dominate and dictate, passing judgement on others because they dont like the tone or content.

Why cant EVERYONE let EVERYONE be, and do as they please or need. Why oh why, is it such a problem if people want to discuss, play detective or just speculate. It is of no harm to the McCanns, no harm to anyone. We all want Madeleine home; it is a subject close to everyones heart, and some folk have the need and DESIRE to talk it out.

And can we have less of the FFS, TWATS, and every other gutter level language - that I would only expect from ill educated and ignorant people. Its not what I expect, like or want to read/hear. A polite request for people to refrain please. Not a demand or command or rule. Just a request. Thank you.

NKF · 17/05/2007 12:43

Why delete it. It's unedifying and of course we all have better things to do but it has been weirdly fascinating too.

AitchTwoOh · 17/05/2007 12:45

schmirdle, over-identifying with a terrible situation will not help the mccanns.
EVERYONE's heart goes out to them, EVERYONE feels like they've taken a punch to the guts EVERY time they think about what might have happened or may be happening to that little girl.
but this is ghoulish speculation, people are treating it like a soap opera o an episode of Most Haunted. it's disgusting. and yes, the naysayers have probably got more provocative as time has gone on, because no-one can quite believe that people think that googling for clues is appropriate [mind boggles]. but they were there questioning all the morbid speculation from the beginning, believe me.

NKF · 17/05/2007 12:46

I'm not stopping anyone from debating it. I haven't called for any deletions. I think what people want is to be able to discuss it exactly the way they want to discuss it without anyone criticising them or laughing.

and for anyone who said this thread was about dreams CHECK YOUR FACTS FIRST that actually started on the poster thread.
Now just blooming Drop it all of you, there is no news at the moment!

AitchTwoOh · 17/05/2007 12:48

just cos its such utter bullshit, nkf, i think.
and wolfgirl, some people find your unwholesome speculation a great deal more distasteful than a bit of swearing, ffs. can't you see that? you've been banging on about internet psychics, can't you see how disgusting that is? must go actually, this is starting to piss me right off.

schmirdle · 17/05/2007 12:49

Aitchtwooh
I do agree with what you're saying, it's just looking at all those links to Magnum DVD's and Juliet Bravo references really peed me off. It's like some people see these things as an opportunity to be funny. Well, it's not. But equally, I agree, it has become a reality show for some people, and that winds me up too. Just thought I might find some more intelligent comment on here that's all.

AitchTwoOh · 17/05/2007 12:49

wtf, yadablahblah? unbelievably offensive.

LazyLine · 17/05/2007 12:49
LazyLine · 17/05/2007 12:50

For both of those posts.....

Seriously with the "special olympics"?!!?!?!

GColdtimer · 17/05/2007 12:50

I have posted a message on the prayers board in in the hope that that, instead of this will stay at the top of active conversations.

mrsflowerpot · 17/05/2007 12:50

wow, blahblahyadayada, even in this truly awful thread that stands out as horribly offensive.

AitchTwoOh · 17/05/2007 12:50

you would have done a fortnight ago, schmirdle. tempers are getting frayed the more ludicrous it's become. mine included, so am off to have lunch.

NKF · 17/05/2007 12:51

It's an eye opener the Internet. I had no idea that peoply really did use the word "retarded." Just like I've never actually met anyone who takes psychics seriously.

ThatBeetroot · 17/05/2007 12:51

sadly schmirdle there is not alot of intelligent comment to be had about her whole subject - as there is nothing cncrete to say

MrsSpoon · 17/05/2007 12:51

OK, since I started this flamin' thread >MrsSpoon mutters and mumbles and wishes she hadn't bothered< I do feel the need to defend myself.

I genuinely found the previous news threads (when they were about the news) informative, I generally don't watch the news when the DSs are about so found this useful. I bow to others superior Googling skills.

I personally do not think the dream thing is at all news worthy, I think it is cranky, however I also respect other people's right to be interested in this.

The previous thread with the MNetter who found the thing on Google, I personally thought it was a good thing that she mailed someone, yes they no doubt know all about the link, I don't think for a minute anyone on MN could tell the Police/media anything they didn't already know but given the extremely slight chance that this was new information to them I felt it was a good idea to contact someone.

I posted on the other thread that the particular MNetter in question might get an interview on the BBC and it was a joke!!! For goodness sake!

I'm off, I do have a very busy real life whereby I spend time with my kids and do loads of other stuff, it just so happens that my work involves me being on the PC and the internet.

"I have posted a message on the prayers board in in the hope that that, instead of this will stay at the top of active conversations."

Obviously didn't work!

Pewari · 17/05/2007 12:59

Sorry to butt in, but as the owner of the blog (and a mumsnetter - I usually post under a different name) that the "dream" comment was written of, I just wanted it made clear for the record that:

a) I have nothing to do with the commenter who wrote the "dream" on my blog and I want to completely distance myself from that.

b) "Serge" and its derivatives (Sergey, Sergio, Sergei, etc) are a fairly common name in many european countries and is not a miraculous guess. Many other "details" in the "dream" are extremely vague and wishy washy and could match thousands of properties and families.

c) I hold a pretty dim view of those losing sight that this is about Madeleine and getting all excited about dream prediction and so called psychics, and in many ways I'm bitterly regretting writing that blog post at all.

This post probably shouldn't have needed to be written really but am well pissed off that media have been invoked without informing me first (and at least it could have been the Guardian rather than the sodding Sun .... JOKE )

Rhubarb · 17/05/2007 13:00

I think it should be deleted because a little girl has gone missing. She may or may not be dead. Her family must be going through hell.

On a parenting website people, other mothers are arguing over who said what, what was meant by it and who is better than who.

This thread does not relate to any thoughts of Madeline McMann. She is an innocent 4 year old girl yet her name is being bandied around in an incredibly offensive way.

I make no apologies for being incredibly upset by that and wishing that this thread was not here.
