😂 Julie Bindel.

What evidence does she have, eh? Anyway, we digress and I’m not going to get drawn into a petty discussion when there’s a far larger one at play, with more serious ramifications.

Usernumbers1234 · 26/04/2018 14:45

Leave it out terfin, there’s enough tangents on this thread without that. Take it to feminism boards if you want to discuss that.

SoupyNorman · 26/04/2018 14:47

The Secret Barrister is a woman, I believe

MarthaArthur · 26/04/2018 14:47

Charlie Gards sad has tweeted steven woolfe mep asking him to contact him. Its terrifying when we have people who an willing petition for childrens human rights to be taken away.

Omg I can't believe my comment about the Evans family got deleted! So apparently we aren't allowed to point out that the family are saying things that are plainly untrue. Why should they get protection that others haven't?! Absolutely ridiculous.

LARLARLAND · 26/04/2018 14:53

I wouldn't believe a single word I read on Legal Cheek SoupyNorman.

Duckland · 26/04/2018 14:55

Has it been confirmed that Alfie's parents resuscitated him on 3 occasions? I just find it very odd that medical staff would allow that.

TerfinUSA · 26/04/2018 14:55

SoupyNorman, not sure what that link is supposed to prove, the replies four years ago don't believe that stuff is anything other than a man's fantasy. Have you read it?

" in case I acquired a ‘reputation’. She didn’t exactly specify what kind of reputation she meant but from the way she eyed me as though I was liable to pull my knickers off and jump the junior clerk on the photocopier I had a fairly good idea."

" I decided to walk back to my flat. It was a warm September morning and I could use the exercise after a week sat behind pupil mistress trying to keep as still as possible. I was two streets when pupil mistress’ best friend spotted me.

‘Helloooooo,’ she trilled, ‘walk of shame?’"

The rest of it reads like some sort of sub-Harry Potter legal fantasy. Utter bollocks.

The NHS is underfunded, doctors and nurses are working very, very long hours in extremely difficult conditions. EU nationals are leaving, and will continue to do so, causing extreme staff shortages.
This may lead to mistakes being made. We should blame government policy for these shortcomings not dedicated HCPs working in such challenging circumstances.
However in cases like AE doctors, as I have seen personally, ask for advice from doctors in other countries. Decisions are made on these grounds and have to be accountable.
I do not believe there has been any dissent from fully informed doctors on AE’s diagnosis or prognosis.
Nor do I believe that any hospital anywhere in the world, however well funded, equipped and staffed, could have come to a different conclusion..

SouthWestmom · 26/04/2018 14:57

Just seen on FB dad doing a live slating another parent who rang a radio show. The other parent has a child with a different syndrome and dad is audibly angry about the comparison.

lettuceWrap · 26/04/2018 14:57

What are the staff going to do? If they lay a hand on either parent, doubtless they will be charged with assault Sad

TE has said they (the parents) did cpr

MorningCuppa · 26/04/2018 14:58

Duckland - no it hasn't been confirmed, Alder hey can't speak out because of patients confidentiality otherwise I'm sure they would
Like to with all the information that's flying around.

NewDOOFUSfor18 · 26/04/2018 14:58

duckland TE said 2 days ago that he had given mouth to mouth 3 times, I wouldn't say that's tantamount to full rescusitation but are classed as "rescue breaths".

KoshaMangsho · 26/04/2018 15:01

Dad said when he was taken off the ventilator he was blue and shaking and then they did mouth to mouth on 3 separate occasions. That’s when they begged for oxygen.

DiamondsBestFriend · 26/04/2018 15:02

I have a genuine question and it is not meant to be inflammatory.

But, at what point do doctors concede that they have possibly got the timing etc wrong? I realise that this baby is life-limited, that he will at some point die because of the severe and increasing deterioration of his brain, that there is no hope of long-term survival or ultimate quality of life.

I also understand why it has been considered to be in his best interests to slip away peacefully rather than to go to Italy for further measures to sustain life.

However, while there has been some talk about how this is a process which could take up to ten days, I think it’s also fair to say that the expectation was that it would not be a slow process and that AE would have passed within hours at the very least. And yet he is still here.

Does there come a point where medics do concede that withdrawal of support was not the correct move at that time?

ShatnersWig · 26/04/2018 15:02

MissEliza It's getting ridiculous now. You can slag off Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle all you want; you can insinuate all manner of things about Cliff Richard; you can say "there is no smoke without fire" over some court cases; but heaven forbid you actually say something that's accurate about TE. That gets deleted.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 26/04/2018 15:04

For those mentioning the availability of legal aid, I agree that the lack of legal aid now available in this country is absolutely appalling.
In regards to AE, I believe they had several different legal teams before the CLC and others got involved, who I understand were giving their time pro bono. I would have thought it was rather unusual to go through so many legal teams.

Duckland · 26/04/2018 15:05

That makes more sense. I do hope Alfie is completely unaware of all of this, the thought of him feeling pain through all of this is unbearable.

I cannot imagine the atmosphere on PICU right now Sad

Ubercornsdiscoball · 26/04/2018 15:06

6 threads?? 6??? I get that things need to be discussed but this reads more like women at a guillotine with their knitting. It is no business of ours how this works out. We are not the child, nor his family or his medical team or legal team. What on earth is going on?

Yes lots to discuss but surely after this has all settled? What good comes of all this now? We have no control of anything.

Yes I know I will be flamed and given biscuits and whatever else but so be it. I have been involved in lots of child end of life care. It was destroying for everyone involved. Always is. This amount of discussion makes me so sad

MorningCuppa · 26/04/2018 15:10

Diamond - Well according to Mr Mylomas in court in February he said Alfie would never breath again, so who knows what's going on.

ShatnersWig · 26/04/2018 15:10

Uber One, not everyone on MN is a woman. Two, yes, there are legal ramifications, social ramifications about what is going on, so it is worthy of serious discussion and preferably while it's happening so it's clear in people's minds and while it's being so widely debated and featured on TV and radio, why on earth shouldn't it also happen here? Three, I object to people saying they think something is distasteful and we should stop it; if you don't like it, I can understand that, just don't join in or try to prevent others from doing it.

Metalhead · 26/04/2018 15:13

Diamonds I thought that too, certainly when reading the court documents and the EOL plan that TE posted on Facebook it sounded like all the doctors WERE expecting a quick death. I don’t doubt that they probably mentioned there was a possibility he might live for longer, but in all honesty I can see why the family are now saying he’s proved them all wrong.
