For those of you who are interested - and don't want any arguing - the news update according to Sky

  • police are now looking for a man seen in a white van
  • they have an e-fit of him
  • also want to interview an american who lives locally who owns a white van and hasn't been seen for the last few days
  • reward of £1.5M has been offered by the News of the World
OP posts:

we're in a different country, we won't be the potential jury.

Wolfgirl · 14/05/2007 22:43

yep wannabe, you have a valid point.

night night. big hugs all. xx

Georgie11 · 14/05/2007 22:44

Bambirator - think you and I are on the same wavelength, there has to be a sensible line between information and speculation. Unfortunatley, 24 hour news coverage does not make that possible.

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 14/05/2007 22:45

no but sky news is broadcasted in portugal is it not?

Georgie11 · 14/05/2007 22:45

Bambiraptor - sorry mis-spelt your name

Moomin · 14/05/2007 22:46

All this is whipping everyone into a frenzy and the top and bottom of it is that we can't do anything - that's why some people I so upset I guess.

But remember it's in the media's interest to keep viewers glued to the rolling news and we've all seen 'news' created where there actually isn't any.

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 14/05/2007 22:49

guess it's because every channel wants to be the first to report that Madeleine has been found.

but I don't think that will be a happy day.

as an aside, apparently this hasn't been reported at all in the US, ILs just came back from holiday and they said it wasn't on the news at all - they had no idea.

Astrophe · 14/05/2007 22:49

Been reading along on this thread. Lets all go to bed and pray we wake up to good news.

foxcub · 14/05/2007 22:49

I think this will come to nothing and suspect they have picked on Mr Murat because he is single, has a glass eye and is a bit odd.

Due to the reward, I bet all kinds of false leads spring out of the wood work unfortunately...

Georgie11 · 14/05/2007 22:51

Wannabewhateveriwannbe -

That was exactly my point earlier and there have been many cases in British law where blatantly guilty criminals have been acquitted because of inappropriate media coverage. The Portuguese law closes down this avenue of defence.

Bambiraptor · 14/05/2007 22:52

WannaBe, that is so true. How can a fair trial be achieved in any case with this kind of media coverage.
Georgie11, totally agree.

Regardless of whether this man is involved or not, he and especially his mother should not be named at this point in the investigation.

snowwonder · 14/05/2007 22:54

oh god i didnt realise that-- i am single and I have a glass eye(not sure thats what i would call it)

going to bed and hope to wake up to some news that will make me smile when i see madeline's beautiful face....rather than my heart falling to floor every time i see her photo

reece · 14/05/2007 22:56

Swet prayer for Madeline.
Hope for good news.
Goodnight all.

reece · 14/05/2007 22:56

Sorry "sweet"

UCM · 14/05/2007 22:59

If they find this little girl, by whatever means, then we can stop speculating for one. I imagine it would give her parents something to focus on IYKWIM.

Georgie11 · 14/05/2007 23:06

My final message before I go to bed:

  • This is not a time of blame (whether it be the Portuguese Police/the News Channels, etc).
  • This is a time of support - for the Police, the media and first and foremost, Madeleine's family.

I am not a particularly religious person but God Bless the people who are looking for Madeleine; God Bless Madeleine's parents and family and God Bless and protect Madeleine.

Good Night

Bambiraptor · 14/05/2007 23:08

Good night, God Bless

Whoooosh · 14/05/2007 23:10

Agree with Astophe-nothing more to be heard tonight.Let's all go top bed andpray for positive news in the morning.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 14/05/2007 23:16

"Some individuals" have been taken away by police, under blankets, from an address in Norfolk. Murat has been away in Norfolk in the last few days.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 14/05/2007 23:19

Looks like his ex-wife and children are being taken somewhere safe as well. Crikey, how dreadful if he's innocent

amidaiwish · 14/05/2007 23:20

the BBC reporter also said, very wisely imo
that many villas had been searched and that this is getting such a lot of focus because this is where the media are all based.

but at least something is happening, at least it feels like they may be getting closer to her. better than no leads, surely? please please let her be found safe and well and very very soon. x

mommajools · 14/05/2007 23:41

he's just been released

ChocolateFace · 14/05/2007 23:49

How do you know?

jampot · 14/05/2007 23:53

a robert murat works for an algarve property company coincidentally

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 15/05/2007 07:24

portuguese police have said that robert Murrat has been questioned as a witness and that he is not a suspect.

so maybe people can save the hangings for a later date.
