This is slipping from the news and the police are starting to scale down their seraches.

Evidence seems to suggest that Madeline may have been taken to Spain and yet very few people out there are aware of what has happened or what she looks like etc.

We need to send as many emails as we can to Spanish businesses with a poster attachment and highlight this case.

I need mumsnetters to volunteer.

I have called in sick today to get this started but this is a massive task and I cannot do it on my own.

Please let me know if you can help.

ok. I'm with you. It sounded like you were intending to create a new poster which wouldnt be good. If you are simply forwarding the link to the poster that was released yeseterday that makes sense.

Unless you want future spam i suggest you create a hotmail account to do this from as your email will undoubtedly be forwarded again and again and therefore be freely available to spammers in future. Just a thought.

We don't want to point people in Spain to the poster link on the Sky News website becuase although the poster has been translated into Spanish, the rest of the information hasn't and it might not necessarily make much sense to the majority of people.

So we are going to add some text to the body of the email to give info about her age, million pound reward etc. Just to beef it up.

I won't forward on the email Beetroot sent. I will start a new one fom scratch so there will be no contact details visable!

Just be careful about the reward. Apparently his offer of it is valid in Portuguese law the Times says but I wouldn't want to give an opinion on that. I think the man offering it said - If the family agree and I'm not sure if they have.

We should leave the reward off then until we are sure

Thanks for sorting out the translation. I work as a translator (unfortunately not English to Spanish otherwise I would offer to do this at once) and am therefore aware of the potential pitfalls, so please post if there are any problems. Most importantly, the text must be translated by a native Spanish speaker (preferably a translator) and ideally checked by a second Spanish speaker (I'm sure there are a few around MN!) before it is released.

The company I contacted do have a native Spanish Speaker there (I think).

Perhaps if we have any Spanish netmums that could just have a quick look through once it's done though, that would be great.

I will try and get this all finalised by this afternoon.

I imagine that most people will come on here this evening and hopefully read this thread so we might be able to achieve more this evening then this afternoon iyswim.

was just reading the story northerner linked to - it does, in a way, go some way towards showing that other countries just don't cover these stories in the way the native country does - I certainly didn't see this story reported in the news here.

The police are skilled in the way things are done, intelligence will be doing things in a way that won't jepodise any investigation.

Permission should be sought from the police and family before this goes ahead

The family are already trying to circulate posters about Madeleline and have translated the poster into French and Spanish.

We are just helping them to circulate the Spanish poster that is all. Nobody is altering it in any way.

someone earlier suggested approaching airline companies to display the poster on their flights or check in desks....I think that this is a great idea. Can you imagine how many people would see the poster then?

The reward has now been confirmed and gratefully accepted by the parents so maybe you should add it. It could be the incentive that makes the difference, as if one was needed.

I've just spoken via email to a friend wholives in spain. He said it was mentioned when he was in madrid earlier in the week but now he's home, there's no mention on either local news or in the local paper.

I do think someone needs to check with spannish authorities/spannish law somewhere. It may not be legal to print details about rewards, or even to put up posters like this. And I still think we should try and liaise with someone who is close to the family at least, as even a reward had to be run past the family first.

my concern about adding the reward is that even though it has been accepted by the parents and confirmed, it may in some way contravene spanish or portugese law.

I have no idea if it does and I really don';t want to go down down the route of contacting the spanish auth. It could take days to get a response.

If we email the poster to people in Spain, they can simply email it on to their contacts etc and spread the word that way. They don't necessarily have to print off or display the poster. I guess different regions have different laws about this sort of thing so it's best to let local people decide what they would like to do.

I am still waiting for the translations. my DH is seeing if he can get something done via work.
