This is slipping from the news and the police are starting to scale down their seraches.

Evidence seems to suggest that Madeline may have been taken to Spain and yet very few people out there are aware of what has happened or what she looks like etc.

We need to send as many emails as we can to Spanish businesses with a poster attachment and highlight this case.

I need mumsnetters to volunteer.

I have called in sick today to get this started but this is a massive task and I cannot do it on my own.

Please let me know if you can help.

Madeleine's Fund

To donate to the official fund go here:

Fund

You can apparently also

"Text "MADDIE" to 60999 and £1 will be taken from your phone for the Madeleine Fund." (also on the Bring Madeleine Home website)

Any surplus funds are to to be donated to finding other missing children.

debbsyandsonn · 18/05/2007 15:02

i will also try and do some tomorrow when i feel better.

AmberRose · 18/05/2007 16:35

I have sent an email to the Maddie campaign website aswell but they are inundated with emails and may not even get to read many of the emails sent regarding ways to help so I was thinking - what about targeting the milk producing companies in Portugal, Spain and suchlike. Perhaps her photo could be put onto milk bottles and cartons. Lets face it - 'everyone' drinks milk. Also, how about bottled water. Most people I'm sure buy bottled water in these countries. Maybe we could all look into emailing the milk and bottled water producers. It's hard work i know but we need to keep going until she is found!

AmberRose · 18/05/2007 16:55

May I just add that I have no contacts in Portugal or Spain so if anyone has any information on things like the name of some milk producing companies then that would be a great help. I have tried to look it up on the net but to no avail.

jampot · 18/05/2007 18:58

ive been speaking to my pal in the States and she said she asked for an update on the missing girl in Portugal - she maintains it isnt onm BBC America.

AmberRose · 18/05/2007 19:22

There really isn't much to report on to be honest. The police are still looking into phone calls made by Robert Murat the night of her disapperance but that is really it so far.

AmberRose · 18/05/2007 19:24

As for it not being on in America, I am not surprised. The world is a big place and it really is of no real interest to the American public who have to deal with their own children who go missing.

jampot · 18/05/2007 19:47

she was just surprised as she assumed it would be on BBC. Her American friends who watch other channels know about it

I think we need to be careful who is targeted with this.

I think that farmacuticle companies are a no-no as the farmacutacle industry is connected with quite a lot of contravercy, ie not supplying drugs to aids victims in Africa etc. I don?t think they will be prepared to take this on board because it just doesn?t look right for them to be highlighting the plight of one child when they can make a real difference to the plight of millions and are refusing to do so.

Also I think that we need to consider that it?s possible to make this too public. I think putting pictures on cars/in windows/In newspapers is great. People will look, may observe, may report if they see something. But I think that proposing putting pictures on milk cartons/water bottles crosses a boundary and has potential to do more harm than good.

This campaign needs to go public yes. But it must not go so public that anyone holding Madeleine feels trapped into doing something that everyone will regret. If someone is holding Madeleine, the rewards have not done anything to make them come forward, so they?re not motivated by money. If you bring pictures of Madeleine into the home of that person, through milk/water, they may feel that they have nothing more to gain by keeping Madeleine, if the publicity is so much that there is no escape, then I think there?s a real possibility Madeleine?s life could be put at risk.

Wolfgirl · 19/05/2007 10:36

Pharm - wanab - not farm! lol - jesting with you hun

SSSandy2 · 19/05/2007 11:33

If there is a possibility she may be in Morocco, could someone (afraid my pc won't do it) send a poster with the international phone number to the English language university there. Address at bottom of webpage :
description

Perhaps they could display it in their library/students' residences/canteen or print it out so students could take it home. Many return to other parts of Morocco over the weekend, and might be willing to distribute posters for displayin restaurants, hotels, doctors' surgeries?

Someone at Al Akhawayn might be willing to translate the poster into Arabic and mail it to the other Moroccan universities.
Presuming the poster mentions the reward sum too..

ruserious · 19/05/2007 11:57

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever ever seen. You all obviously have nothing betetr to do than busy yourselves with something you really know very little about Taking days off work e-mailing morocco and slating the eurovision(how very dare you)You are not detectives just bored housewives

AmberRose · 19/05/2007 12:06

I think that whoever has taken Maddie is well aware of the publicity it has created. They are broadcasting her video to at least half a billion people today during the cup final so I don't think that approaching a milk company is such a bad idea. The only people that should be pooh-poohing ideas is those directly linked to the campaign. If the abductor was going to panic and do something stupid , they would have done it by now. As soon as a 2.5 million tag was attached to her, she became hot property! I would suggest that ideas from all of us are put forward constructively. We are not in charge of this investigation.

AmberRose · 19/05/2007 12:10

Oh dear ruserious, you obviously have nothing better to do that come onto our forum!!!!! What a complete prat. It's actually laughable.

Flumpybumpy · 19/05/2007 12:41

ruserious - why don't you just bugger off and leave this thread for those who want to help and put forward ideas, what a sad little person you are!

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 19/05/2007 13:44

No you?re right this isn?t our investigation, but it isn?t our campaign either. And that is why, IMO, we need to be careful about who we approach on the family?s behalf.

Ok take away the possibility that someone would cause harm to Madeleine, if they haven?t already done so that is. But pictures of Madeleine need to be circulated in such a way as to promote the positive, ie people are appealing for information about this child. Posters, emails, video campaigns are a good way to do that, but once you start branding commercial products you run into the relms of putting this across in a less favourable way.

There is a lot of negative feeling about the publicity this case is receiving, with yellow ribbons and continued news coverage of nothing and ?maddy days? at nurseries etc, everyone wants a happy outcome to this but I think the continued publicity is starting to annoy a lot of people. I think that if you start branding their milk/mineral water with pictures of Madeleine the response will be a negative one and not a positive one. This is an appeal, not an advertising campaign.
