New thread to discuss the developments from the news for Madeleine Mccann

I know the other thread got a bit out of hand but lets keep this one nice if possible.

I think it is good to discuss all that is happening in the news & also good to see peoples views on what is happening in the news.

The lastest i can see so far is that Madeleins parents want to keep focused on the finding of there daughter & want to keep this in the news they don't want things to turn on the police investigation & how it is being handled.

Mr & Mrs Mccann have also decided they want an E poster which they are going to be sending out through email to spread the news so that everyone, everywhere can look out for beautiful Madeleine.

Thanks for doing this MrsSpoon. Can we lobby Spanish airline operators and holiday companies?

Astrophe · 10/05/2007 23:26

There must be lots of people on here who have friends in Spain they can send the poster to, and they can send it to their friends etc...I don't know anyone in Spain.

curlysmum · 10/05/2007 23:29

yes I had thought in the media they could really publicise more the unusual marking in one of her eyes that is something that is so uncommon and its something that you would really remember if you saw a young child with . Does it mention it on the posters ? I think it really should as to be honest I thought the poster picture with the hat etc could look similar to so many other children from a distance.

Heathcliffscathy · 10/05/2007 23:33

IF it is because there are no new developments

sunflowervalley · 10/05/2007 23:35

DH's sister teaches english in Spain and her fiance is spanish.
DH's brother also lives in Spain and his girlfriensd is spanish.

Will e mail his sister snd see what she can do.

If I sent her a link to sky news she could download the poster from there.

BigPantsRule · 11/05/2007 01:36

Wendy - My daughter's passport is due to expire next winter and was issued before the changes regarding biometric images. The photo was taken when she was a baby and bears no resemblance to how she is now! Yet presumably it wouldn't be questioned when crossing frontiers as everyone knows how much children change as they grow, the biggest transformation being between 0 and 5!

I'm not sure if it's wise to draw too much attention to the distinguishing feature of the iris. Or maybe it is. Perhaps it will make those holding Maddy realize how difficult it will be to fully disguise her. If they have any compassion at all then they'll let her go as she could very well be recognized at some point in the future on this feature alone (I'm no expert but I imagine it won't change as she grows). The feature is not mentioned in the poster or the e-mail which is circulating on the internet. I can only assume the family were advised by UK experts on the content of these.

As an aside, if someone had been watching the family with a view to snatching Maddy, I don't think they can have got very close - or at least not close enough to spot this feature. Otherwise they might have decided not to take her.

iammewhoru · 11/05/2007 08:36

now the search has been scaled down I guess this will drop out of the news altogether. The Mccanns will no doubt come home soon and this will be one of those stories that will be referred to occasionally when someone thinks they have a new lead. And every time a child goes missing people will remember this case. so .

It wouldn't be difficult to go online and find the email addresses of Spanish companies.

We could systematically serach for resteraunts, hotels, bars, a whole list of businesses and then send emails out to everyone with an attachment of the poster (the one that has been translated into Spanish.

What we need though is to have something attention grabbing in the subject bar and then a small message to o with the attachment that have oth been ranslated into Spanish.

If we can agree on what these messages should both be then we can get someone to translate.

Then we need to draw up a list of different businesses and regions in Spain and Mumsnetters can each pick from the list and send as many emails as they can.

It seems that we can collectively do something.

Do we have any more specific information on Madelnes eye?

Can someone get in touch with the family in the UK and get more details on this?

ThisIsDavinaPleaseDoNotSwear · 11/05/2007 09:07

apologies for spelling there!

GColdtimer · 11/05/2007 09:14

Its certainly worth a try davina, do you think it warrants a new thread to get support? I am off out soon and know nothing about Spain but I am happy to add my support and encouragement and help if I can.

debbsyandsonn · 11/05/2007 09:18

I would like to help

ThisIsDavinaPleaseDoNotSwear · 11/05/2007 09:20

Ok, a new thread is needed. Lets also let HQ know to see if they can highlight this for us.

Hulababy · 11/05/2007 09:24

I think it is important to ensure that you do not do anything that might interfere with official investigations though. Might be worth checking with MN beforehand so they can check out any plans first.

ThisIsDavinaPleaseDoNotSwear · 11/05/2007 09:29

Hi Hulababy, we would just be sending out copies of the posters that the Mcgann family have aleady drawn up. It is readily available on Sky news and thousands of people have already downloaded it.

ThisIsDavinaPleaseDoNotSwear · 11/05/2007 09:29

I have started a new thread but am rubbish at links, can anyone help?

GColdtimer · 11/05/2007 09:30

I really do have to go now but the family are using the internet to raise awareness,

GColdtimer · 11/05/2007 09:32

Sorry, I never that right...telegraph

ThisIsDavinaPleaseDoNotSwear · 11/05/2007 09:43

I am having problems with that link, keep getting error message.

We could simply email that link to Spanish busineses but it is in English.

Can anyone link to the new thread

GColdtimer · 11/05/2007 09:52

There is a new thread here

jenk1 · 11/05/2007 10:27

apparantly on sky.com there is going to be a news conference by maddies dad around 10.30am, NOW

fireflyfairy2 · 11/05/2007 10:37

That couple look destroyed.

She was clutching Madeleine's teddy the whole time.

Oh, I hope she is safe.

ess · 11/05/2007 10:41

Im going to a resort not far from where Maddie was taken tomorrow and have just been in touch with my dad who is there. He says there are no posters in the resort were going to or in the surrounding area. Isn't that dreadful? I'm going to take a load with me and get them put up. Does anyone know the number of the Portugese police so I can add it to the poster please?

kookaburra · 11/05/2007 10:45

I read today about the petrol station sighting that was referrred to on posts yesterday, so sorry if this is old news. Seems very odd tho' surely if these people were organsised enough to plan the abduction so meticulously they would have filled up with pertol in advance and left a back up car somehwere with a full tank and not risked taken the child into a petrol station? makes me think its another red herring.

amidaiwish · 11/05/2007 10:59

have you seen the £1m reward offered by scottish businessman?

now AT LAST SOMEONE MIGHT come forward

but not allowed to advertise this in portugal so they are trying to spread the word

ess · 11/05/2007 11:00

Why cant they advertise it in Portugal? How ridiculous!
