I am so worried about this little girl, but can't always find out on the tv, so I thought I would start this, as the thread is talking about stuff, I just want the latest updates please. If this offends anyone I am sorry, but I want to know the updates on this case.

mommajools · 09/05/2007 21:16

Enid - this is a news thread as in the title - we don't need your bullying on this and on the other thread - Justine is not pulling this thread so if you don't agree with other mothers wanting updates on this case then go and chat elewhere

mommajools · 09/05/2007 21:21

Nuttymuffins - I hae found this tiresome as well as certain posters were on the other threads dictating to other posters - just because they have been on mumsnet for five years does not give them the powers to dictate, bully and intimidate other posters. I have only posted items that have come on sky newa for people who do not have access to the tv or radio and vice versa I come on when I cant get access to my tv.
Lets get back to any updates in the news

LucyJones · 09/05/2007 21:23

Right... for those who have no access to BBC website:

The parents are remaining positive.

The grandparents are refuting caims in some Portugese newspapers that the parents were neglectful in leaving their children.

That is the news. Ie their is no news.

Dora74 · 09/05/2007 21:28

I too nuttymuffins am saddened and disgusted with Enids attitude. Her posts are aggressive and rude. For someone who thinks we shouldn't be discussing this she can't stay away from this thread herself.
Its the defiance in her posts that is totally un called for.
I agree...just because someone has been here 5 yrs does not give them the right to bully and name call and intimidate.
We can all discuss whatever we like here with or without Enids permission.

Dora74 · 09/05/2007 21:31

Lucyjones...i just saw the grandparents on Sky news..
They are all giving interviews because they are desperate to keep people talking about this and keep it in the forefront of the news. Its so important to keep up the high level of press interest right now.

mommajools · 09/05/2007 21:32

Thanks Lucy
Dora - i totally agree that her posts were agressive and rude and she had frightened off other parents from the other site which to my mind is bullying and intimidating.

ScoobyDooooo · 09/05/2007 21:35

If you actually look on the net, everywhere are actually talking about this & discussing it, it is on myspace, youtube all parenting sites, i think it is only natural that it wil be discussed so there rally is no pint in falling out over it.

I really can't see the harm in people discussing this but obviously there must be because people are getting upset?

UCM · 09/05/2007 22:15

Look this has descended into a row, but I for one pissed myself when I saw

'rubbernecking freakoid'.

Anyway, please stop rowing about it, for christs sake we are talking about a little girl who is missing, sending insults (unless its to cod) is really really awful and I don't believe that those of you are doing it are really thinking about the gravity of this dreadful situation. Can we just agree that everyone wants to talk about it and those who don't think that we should don't IYKWIM.

noddyholder · 09/05/2007 22:17

How did a thread about news updates get 184 messages when there has been no progress?

UCM · 09/05/2007 22:29

Gawd knows Noddy. It's all over the site, not just here. I just can't believe people are falling out over it

OP posts:
DrNortherner · 09/05/2007 22:48

rubbernecking freakoid was tongue in cheek I hope you are aware. Olive loves me really.

She'd come on and tell you that herself but she's busy painting lines with dulux paint.

shoegal13 · 09/05/2007 23:05

i'm new to here but already getting fed up of the little 'gang' that seems to go about from one thread to the next saying what you can and can't discuss blah bloody blah... if you don't want to speculate/analyse or 'discuss' - the very thing that these threads are supposed to be for.go away then. nobody is interested in your 'policing'/
whining or bully boy tactics.
deomcracy/freedom of speech - get it??

TeeJaye · 10/05/2007 01:34

Well I'm going to wade in here and possibly make myself an unpopular newbie(ish) because I have to say that Enid is coming across as a child having a tantrum and stamping her feet because she can't get her own way. It's quite bizarre to watch a grown woman act in that manner.

The philosophy of MN is "to respect other people's right to their opinions, even if you disagree with them." but some people seem to be working on a different agenda.

If anyone has a problem with any posts or threads, surely the best way to deal with it would be to avoid the thread in question but also to alert them and leave MN to decide if they're inappropriate.

fifisworld · 10/05/2007 06:58

According to gmtv they were talking about scaling down the search as there has been no clues or information. Surely that should mean that the search should be stepped up not scaled down. If that is whats going to happen its very and
We should not stop looking until little Madeline has been found.

quietmouse · 10/05/2007 07:26

omg - I can't believe they are scalinf down the search already!

those poor parents. I do think there have been some very serious mistakes in this enquiry (imho of course) and that is just heartbreaking for that family

quietmouse · 10/05/2007 07:27

scaling, sorry....

fifisworld · 10/05/2007 07:42

They've said the investigation will continue but the search i think will be scaled down.
The poor family i cant imagine how they are feeling
They've said that they are going to look at the cctv from a petrol station which shows a girl matching Madeline being forced to say thank you for something and apparently it all looked suspicious. Why is it taking them so long to look at this vidoe, surely it should be a priority to rule out if its her or not, and if it is they can get clues from the car they were in etc.
I just think that there seems to be no urgency in what they are doing.

ekra · 10/05/2007 07:45

I think there is a difference between someone sporadically coming onto a news update thread and adding or requesting a news update and someone sitting at their PC refreshing this thread all day long and posting speculative misinformation, then discussing the speculative developments with an excited tone of post as though a fictional plot is being unravelled before their eyes.

People need to understand that distinction.

quietmouse · 10/05/2007 07:46

I thought that sighting had been ruled out?

This is making me angrier and angrier, seriously....

Shouldn't they be widening the search now rather than scaling it down?

fifisworld · 10/05/2007 07:49

Thats just what they said this morning QM, i thought it had been ruled out.
Who's sitting refreshing this thread??
Is the point of it not to discuss updates?
Im just posting what was said this morning on the news, which to me is an update or am i looking at this thread differently to others?

kid · 10/05/2007 07:52

I don't think they confirmed the sighting at the petrol station.
Its really sad if they are scaling down the hunt, how must that make her parents feel. I just hope they get a breakthrough soon.

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 10/05/2007 07:52

They won?t stop looking though, the case will remain open until she is found. But sadly there has to come a point when, if all local areas have been searched, you can?t search them any more. If they have?t found her locally, then chances are, she isn?t in the area any more, and the search would be scaled down but widened to the rest of Portugal and probably over the borders. On the other hand, if someone has Madeleine and is in hiding with her, there?s probably a greater chance that they will come out of hiding if there isn?t quite such a huge police presence in the area, and thus a greater chance that the police might then catch them as they try to move to a different area etc.

PinkChick · 10/05/2007 08:28

they are looking into the petrol station sightning (GMTV this morn)and just because we only heard they 'would' look into it, it seems the news are the last people to hear whats going on(quite rightly), they may already have followed it up?, thing is everything will look suspiscious wont it, im just so sad there has been no trace yet

auntyspan · 10/05/2007 10:03

Sky news are reporting that there are some fresh leads in the hunt for Madeleine.

here

Nikki76 · 10/05/2007 10:08

Please God, that one of those breakthroughs leads to finding her safe
