We can discuss parenting styles in a few weeks

OP posts:
charlottelouise · 08/05/2007 13:24

If they do have to come home without her, i hope the papers leave them alone, so they can try to go back to some kind of normality for there other children, unlike the parents of holly and jessica, who have there grief splashed about the front pages everytime ian huntlety sneezes, how are they ever going to carry on if that keeps happeneing??

NKF · 08/05/2007 13:28

Of course the papers won't leave them alone. Editors know that there many many people who want to know about all the "developments".

charlottelouise · 08/05/2007 13:30

It wouls just be nice if people could be a little less 'interested' and show a little more compassion

NKF · 08/05/2007 13:33

CL - do you think of "compassion" and "interest" as opposites then?

charlottelouise · 08/05/2007 13:36

no, but i personally would just like to think of there relatives hopefully getting on with there lives and being left alone,
i dont think it should be made into entertainment (which it is) when huntley decides to describe how he killed, or commits suicide, or maxine gets a haircut. they do and say these things for attention, and they get it! i dont think it should be reported on, they should just be left to rot

crispyduck · 08/05/2007 13:37

I think the portugese police should bring in experts from the uk to help with the ongoing appeal to find her..

charlottelouise · 08/05/2007 13:37

i dont mean to be distastefull with that last line, i meant ian and maxine. i should read what i write before i post it sorry if it caused offence

charlottelouise · 08/05/2007 13:40

i dont know if i have watched to much alias, but isnt there something that they can do with thermall imaging satellite cameras, like scan over known peodophiles or suspects houses or something??

toomuchtodo · 08/05/2007 13:42

I keep coming back to this thread as stupidly I hope that when I click on it there might be good news that I haven't seen on the tv yet

praying for good news for this family...........

LilyLoo · 08/05/2007 13:43

there is a criminal expert on itv news now. He is also criicising the police and how they have dealt with it. He said it was a very well planned abduction. There is a tonight special on itv at 10'0 clock.

charlottelouise · 08/05/2007 13:44

lilyloo
my daughter has hidden my remote, what is he saying?????

LIZS · 08/05/2007 13:46

and this is helpful or just more time filling for a slow news day ?

crispyduck · 08/05/2007 13:46

5 days have now passed....to search so many km a day is not good enough...

LilyLoo · 08/05/2007 13:47

He over there now. He just questionong the length of time that it took them to respond and also the lack of police presence at the appartmets now and also at the borders. He said it would have been handled very differently over here. I saw on tv last night a camera man had filmed police supposedly checking cars leaving the border they were just stood around chatting and one van drove past with blacked out windows. It then started raining and they all sat in their patrol cars.

charlottelouise · 08/05/2007 13:51

we share this world with some sick sick people, how the hell do you turn from a child, into an adult that makes plans and follows through an abduction??

RanToTheHills · 08/05/2007 13:52

generally abusers have been abused themselves as children so there's a very sad vicious circle of abuse going on.

TeeJaye · 08/05/2007 13:53

Staff were warned of 'weird' man in shadows

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 08/05/2007 13:55

Charlotte, but sadly once you let the media into your life you can?t just kick them out again when you no longer want the publicity iyswim. Not saying that?s right btw but sadly that?s how it works. Whatever happens now this family will always pop up in the media from time to time, even if she?s found safe and well, because every time a child goes missing they will bring on the Mccans and they?ll be asked to talk about what they went through etc etc. it?s tasteless but that?s how the media over here works.

And I think that to say that the brittish police should be over there deaing with it is quite arrogant actually. We don?t actually know what the Portuguese police are/aren?t doing do we? I think that just because it?s been five days and she hasn?t been found people are saying they?re incompetent. But if I recall Sarah payne was missing for about a week before she was found, and holly Wells and Jessica Chapman were missing for at least a week, maybe even two, and they were found by a member of the public and not the police. So were the police in those cases incompetent as well? Even though they were Brittish?

LilyLoo · 08/05/2007 13:55

Whether we discuss it or not it's not helpful. I only wonder that if we all meet people in rl whether we would be so abrupt with them if they brought this topic of conversation up or whether we would decline to join in the conversation if it made us feel uncomfortable. I just don't see why people think it's ok to tell other people to not discuss this.

LilyLoo · 08/05/2007 13:57

Agree Wannabe it's easy to criticise with hindsight.Even if they send British police the outcome could probably be very well the same.

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 08/05/2007 13:58

rantothehills that's a mith actually. I did an introductory counselling course last year and we talked about this as the tutor is a counsellor of sexually abused adults. he said that this perception that abusers have usually been abused as a child is not true at all, and that statistically, a child who has been abused is only about 3% more likely to abuse as an adult.

TeeJaye · 08/05/2007 13:58

Remember the link that was posted about a suspect being arrested? The same site says that they've now been released. I wonder if they really are managing to get info from the Portuguese police or if they're just making it up.

charlottelouise · 08/05/2007 13:59

i know this sounds weired, but if it was me i dont think i would ever be able to leave portugal, it would feel like i was abandoning my child, just in case she was still alive somewhere, i dont think i could be in another contry

LilyLoo · 08/05/2007 14:00

Teejaye how awful that people staying at the complex were not alerted to that

dionnelorraine · 08/05/2007 14:02

Me too Charlotte, I couldnt leave until she was found! Not wierd at all!
