We can discuss parenting styles in a few weeks

OP posts:
charlottelouise · 08/05/2007 12:03

apparently the first 48 hours in a kidnapping case are crucial, after that the chances of the child being found alive dramatically decrease.

imaginaryfriend · 08/05/2007 12:04

That's what I mean, ekra! How can that kind of press coverage be helpful?!

fireflyfairy2 · 08/05/2007 12:04

Oh I wish these threads would stop.

Anyone who is a mother will know the pain a parent must be going through

How can threads like this help that poor family.

Please let her be found safely, but please all stop throwing up regurgitated comments.

Nbg · 08/05/2007 12:04

Oh god just spoke to another mumsnetter whos just told me about these threads being on the news!

thedogsbollox · 08/05/2007 12:04

Fine Aitch - but on this thread?

And who decided what is fine to discuss and what isn't?

I find it highly distateful that people are picking over other people's reactions to this and in a way that is patronising in manner.

It is indirect to Madelaine's disapperance, but no less distasteful for that. It is still making mileage from a family's sorrow and I find that horrid.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 08/05/2007 12:05

agree there IS no more news yet then.
i thought that was what this thread was intended for.
updates as they arrive, not speculation etc.
i see it has grown so click in to see what has happened and nothing!

imaginaryfriend · 08/05/2007 12:05

Ah, Aitch, you think people are following the papers too closely?

It's raining in our park this morning. Take a brolley?

Enid · 08/05/2007 12:05

sigh

really nbg?

fireflyfairy2 · 08/05/2007 12:06

Oh nbg

Nbg · 08/05/2007 12:07

Yes, it was Melsy.

She said it was on the radio saying there has been so many posts on it and alot of them "venemous"

LadyOfTheFlowers · 08/05/2007 12:07

omg nbg.

charlottelouise · 08/05/2007 12:07

I'm getting very mixed feelings about this story, anything from 'there but for the grace of god' to boiling anger because such people exist on earth that would want to take a child, that is going to be frightened for any reason

Nbg · 08/05/2007 12:07

am sure she said tv too.

Enid · 08/05/2007 12:08

yes I can't imagine they would like the anti-press feeling

Nbg · 08/05/2007 12:08

Not what MN needs, so if anything apart from the respect Madeleines family needs atm I think we should leave it well alone now.

charlottelouise · 08/05/2007 12:09

At the end of the day all everyone on this thread wats is the child returned safely and unharmed, if that is possible, some people are talking about it with genuine concern, others are using it as entertainment value. thank god i havent recieved any of those so called 'funny' text message jokes about it.

I think the negative comemnts should be left well alone but if people want to continue to worry about the gilr they should be allowed to do so. What business is it of anyone else's if some mumsnetters want to think about the family in a non -judgemental and kind way?

AitchTwoOh · 08/05/2007 12:11

nope, blazing sunshine here. and of course it's on the news... it is the news. we are the media now, as was pointed out a hundred years ago.
i see your point, actually, dogsbollox, and as i say i'm off out anyway. i suppose there's just a big part of me that found it hard to see all the icky hand-wringing without questioning it publically. imagine if all that emotion had been left unchecked... it might have go worse. but you're right, no-one's actually changed perspective so it probably is time to leave it.

fireflyfairy2 · 08/05/2007 12:11

TC, if they all were non judgemental & kind then that's different. Alas, some of them weren't of that nature

lucy5 · 08/05/2007 12:11

I agree Thomcat!

Nbg · 08/05/2007 12:13

No I think well wishes should continue but alot of people are speculating and its not nice.

Even the portugese police have said they arent sure whats happened and they have all the information, so how would we know anything?

charlottelouise · 08/05/2007 12:14

since this story has broken i have been extra vigilant with my little girl, i keep going into her bedroom at night worrying that someone is going to try and take her, stupid i know but all the same.

AitchTwoOh · 08/05/2007 12:15

PS, i'd noticed that, LL.

charlottelouise · 08/05/2007 12:16

the only negative thing i will say is that the portugese police appear to be completely useless
