We can discuss parenting styles in a few weeks

DH1 who says very little about things did say yesterday that as there were 3 children in the room and she was the one taken, and the family had said they thought they were being watched, that whoever has taken her wanted her, maybe someone that has lost a child the resembled her. He thinks she will be kept safe.

Still we can all assume till the cows come home, its not going to help anyone is it.

expatinscotland · 07/05/2007 10:08

It was mine, wannabe.

My first thought is that she had been specifically targeted for traffic.

Well, traffic's about money, so here's hoping this reward will be enough to flush out whoever's done this.

Because my gut feeling is that she is alive and hasn't gone far.

Budababe · 07/05/2007 10:09

I hope so expat. I really hope you are right.

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 07/05/2007 10:11

surely if it was money they were after though they could have just demanded a ransom.

popsycal · 07/05/2007 10:12

I keep posting and deleting.

I just hope that she is found alive and safe soon.

expatinscotland · 07/05/2007 10:12

Not necessarily, wannabe, if their point was to traffic her to order.

And yes, that does occur.

Rantum · 07/05/2007 10:13

I was wondering if the reason that there was so little information coming from the Police was because they had crucial information and releasing it would be detrimental to finding Madeleine and for the sake of the McCann family and the little girl I am clinging on to that hope, but as the days go by it starts to seem less likely and it seems that the lack of information may reflect incompetence. I just keep praying - this situation is any parent's WORST nightmare and thinking about it was keeping me awake last night. What the parents are suffering is unimaginable.

lissielou · 07/05/2007 10:13

mine too, i wish there was something we could do! it just makes all of our worries look insignificant.

glassslipper · 07/05/2007 10:15

I am sure the Portugese police are doing everything they can at the moment. They dont have many cases like this so will be taking advice from the British police I expect.

paulaplumpbottom · 07/05/2007 10:16

It seems like there should be some developments by now.

thisisdavina · 07/05/2007 10:20

There is now a theory that the abductor was British.

That sounds more chilling to me in a way.

However, if they know that, then they must have more information that they are perhaps not able to share just yet.

kimi · 07/05/2007 10:20

They may well be developments that are not being disclosed.
I am sure the family are being kept up to date with everything.

CoteDAzur · 07/05/2007 10:22

If the aim was to "traffic" a blond little girl, surely they would go for her younger sister who is far less likely to scream "Help! These are not my parents!" and can be expected to forget about her family much sooner?

kimi - I so want your DH to be right about this, but the fact that Madeleine was kidnapped instead of her baby brother/sister could have a much uglier explanation.

Meanwhile, apparently Portuguese police is looking for a balding man .

paulaplumpbottom · 07/05/2007 10:25

a marina? Oh No

thisisdavina · 07/05/2007 10:26

A childless or grief stricken couple would be the best case scenario in many way, at least they would keep her safe.

I can't help thinking though that their concious would have got the better of them by now.

Rantum · 07/05/2007 10:27

Yes, I really hope you are right - I have no doubt that everyone involved is doing everything that they possibly can to find her - it is really just that the lack of information seems to be more and more worrying as each day passes. Still, without evidence to the contrary there is no reason to believe that Madeleine will not still be found safe and well.

Rantum · 07/05/2007 10:30

I wondered if there might even be a ransom demand or something - which would explain why the police felt that she was still alive but could not give more information.

jampot · 07/05/2007 10:32

im wondering if she's been held on a boat and if they move too close too soon they may dump her overboard

OP posts:
jampot · 07/05/2007 10:33

being not been

OP posts:
ruty · 07/05/2007 10:34

oh please just stop.

CoteDAzur · 07/05/2007 10:35

Rantum - That makes sense.

Tamum · 07/05/2007 10:35

I find these speculations deeply vile, personally. Worse than the discussions about who would or wouldn't leave a child.

GColdtimer · 07/05/2007 10:37

Me too Tamum. I have been staying away from this thread but just saw a line an awful line in active conversations. I can't believe people can actually come on a forum and say these things so casually. But I said all this last night and got shouted down.

quietmouse · 07/05/2007 10:42

fgs - you people are sick.

Just stop, please.
