Ok guys, we have been very lucky to discuss this, please lets not give anyone anything to complain about, Mhq have been more than accomodating.

Oh Yolo that could get so out of hand. [CA targeting some person with same name as troll at GOSH.
Smith isn't exactly a rare surname.

officeshoes · 26/07/2017 11:14

I know this is going to sound totally self absorbed but I am finding this all so upsetting. I can't believe that it's happening and that so many people are saying such dreadful things behind the anonymity of their keyboards - CA etc. SM has such a lot to answer for. I thought it very poignant that more evidence had come to light re Ben Needham a couple of days ago and how very different things might have been for them (and not in a good way) if it had happened now and not 26 years ago. God only knows what we have unleashed on ourselves one way or another.

Given that most people have thankfully never had to see a ventilator, it is not surprising that those same people underestimate the size and complexity of the equipment needed for a patient like CG.

My DH's one was a massive beast of a machine.

TheWeeWitch · 26/07/2017 11:15

I've had these fine words circulating in my head -

"The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity."

Surely - apart from anything else on the long list of issues - a ventilator will have to be plugged in to an industrial IP44 socket?

hippogriffwobble · 26/07/2017 11:17

theweewitch yes, I think of this poem often these days... those words have never been more resonant...

TheWeeWitch · 26/07/2017 11:17

Maryz - text from The Times Hirano article (26/7/17).

"The American doctor who intervened in the case of Charlie Gard conceded last night that his therapy could not help the sick boy.
“Unfortunately, an MRI scan of Charlie’s muscle tissue conducted in the past week has revealed that it is very unlikely that he would benefit from this treatment,” Michio Hirano said in a statement.
Great Ormond Street Hospital had accused him of offering advice while possessing only a limited knowledge of Charlie’s condition and said it was concerned to learn “that he retains a financial interest” in some of the treatments he was prescribing.
Dr Hirano insisted last night that he had become involved in Charlie’s case at the request of the boy’s parents. “As I disclosed in court on July 13, I have relinquished and have no financial interest in the treatment being developed for Charlie’s condition,” he said.
Dr Hirano, 56, is a specialist in mitochondrial diseases, of which Charlie’s condition is a rare type. His field of research is new, funding is patchy and patients are often given a misdiagnosis when they first show symptoms."

Chestervase1 · 26/07/2017 11:18

And what if some other baby requires the expert care of PICU doctors or nurses whilst they are with Charlie if he is sent home. Resources and expertise are shared at GOSH and paediatricians and nursing staff have more than one sick child to look after. Presumably this expert care is is short supply.

FrogsSitonLogs · 26/07/2017 11:19

Don't forget there's also the minefield of funding and the CCGs.

GabsAlot · 26/07/2017 11:20

so why are thy proclaiming dr hirano would till treat him?

onalongsabbatical · 26/07/2017 11:22

GabsAlot massive denial. All of it, denial.

LogicalPsycho · 26/07/2017 11:23

And what if some other baby requires the expert care of PICU doctors or nurses whilst they are with Charlie if he is sent home.

Nobody cares. In the hysteria surrounding this case, all perspective has been lost.
People seem to think Charlie Gard is the only poorly child in the country. Or at least, he's the only one that actually matters.

yolofish · 26/07/2017 11:24

they seem to have removed that post now, I hope someone thought better of it with the name etc.

CremeFresh · 26/07/2017 11:26

Im sure many of the CA are genuinely trying to help , albeit in a bit of a misguided way. I do fear that there are also those looking for their 15 mins of fame and are desperate to get their bums on This Morning to tell their story of how they were the ones that helped to get C home.

Chestervase1 · 26/07/2017 11:27

What normally happens in GOSH in this situation. Do they work closely with a hospice or do children go home.

GabsAlot · 26/07/2017 11:29

just dont know how they canmake false statements with no rpurcussions

Writerwannabe83 · 26/07/2017 11:32

CA are now appealing for student doctors Shock Apparently "It's no hardship getting him home" and all they need is "one doctor to help them."

They are also suggesting taking a tape measure to C&Cs flat to measure the door and take a photo, and then take a photo of the tape measure against the ventilator to prove it will fit in the door.

I can't stop reading because I genuinely, genuinely can't believe people think it's just that simple? How do you try and reason and have sensible discussions with people like that?

I imagine a lot of the CA members to be like Karen Matthews friend Julie, certainly how she was depicted in the programme.

Wanting to help, but can't see the woods for the trees.

CremeFresh · 26/07/2017 11:35

It's getting ridiculous tbh. I don't see how they can move Charlie anywhere now without a circus of media and CA following him .

ConcernedTA · 26/07/2017 11:36

Army you're not the first person to say that on MN about the CA brigade.

TheWeeWitch · 26/07/2017 11:37

Yy hippo.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 26/07/2017 11:39

Writer, I agree. Can't argue with stupid.

GabsAlot · 26/07/2017 11:41

i hear thyv already got a police escort organisd incase of press etc

it really is out of control

Chestervase1 · 26/07/2017 11:43

I hope Judge Francis rules for a media blackout this afternoon. I think Charlie deserves privacy in his final days. Whatever the parents may wish.
