Ok guys, we have been very lucky to discuss this, please lets not give anyone anything to complain about, Mhq have been more than accomodating.

I doubt C and C will be able to find a full team of volunteer medical staff to care for Charlie at home (ie enough to carry out the support and cover 24/7), and doubt even more they will be able to get the medicines and equipment.

There can't be too many pieces of specialist equipment lying around. Even if they do, will the manufacturers support it in a domestic setting?? Can you just plug a ventilator into a wall socket, or extension cable? Care settings have generators in case of power outages.

Could someone obstruct medical personnel either entering or egressing the home.

Or is this part of the plan to delay the inevitable.

Oh, it is such a mess.

Since Thread 17 was deleted I wanted to add again that this has become a good source of up to date information and opinion, delivered in a caring and compassionate manner. Thank you to all who are keeping this going.

LovelyBath77 · 26/07/2017 10:45

I am glad to hear the new thread is going smoothly.

I don't recall ventilators being so huge as not being able to fit through a door.

According to the person on the radio this morning with experience of such things, they are bigger than the average office desk. They are also of course much higher and have numerous wires and tubes attached, and it's not as if you can just upend it to get it round a tight corner.

DorotheaBeale · 26/07/2017 10:47

I live in an older house with a narrow hallway and stairs and very tight turns into rooms. I've had problems with delivery of large furniture and appliances. I have one piece of flatpack furniture which was assembled in the room I use it in. I'd have to take it apart to get it out of the room. I can quite see that access could be an issue. And also space inside the home for all the equipment and for the nurses to work.

Yes the page in the Times today is quite good- balanced, it has an article about a woman who took her baby home to die and how important that was to her, which was helpful as well. It's good when they give a balance of articles, that is alongside the article linked to about the treatment and also one about the doctor in US, I'll try and find the one about the mother and others if possible. These are all from today's paper, P11.

It's a horrendous fact that high profile news stories about children being ill and dying do seem to attract some horrible sick people to message their relatives with hate mail. If this case leads even to one of them being arrested and locked up for a long time, I would be delighted.

muckypup73 · 26/07/2017 10:52

It is utterly wrong that anyone is receiving hate mail.

NellieBuff It is deeply shocking that people in the medical/research fields are being targeted and threatened like this, even when they have nothing whatsoever to do directly with the case?

It has got completely out of hand.
So glad police are taking steps to protect the staff.

Sostenueto · 26/07/2017 10:54

Second that ceto

TheWeeWitch · 26/07/2017 10:54

Maryz the really awful one I saw last night is still up on CA. It's from someone called "Smith". Won't post further details here but it's there a few posts down from the top.

Ceto,Any memorial video put up on YT by bereaved parents attracts trolling of the very worst kind.

I don't understand the need to post such videos on a Word platform though, simply as it leaves the family open to unwanted torment via cruel messages.

Sashkin · 26/07/2017 11:02

This is the size of a ventilator:

Here's a compact one:

Still pretty big.

oakleaffy · 26/07/2017 11:02

WeeWitch.. Someone on CA said the Troll account was faked. Not sure how they could tell..maybe emails to the troll address were 'undeliverable'?

Sirzy · 26/07/2017 11:04

And it's not only the size but the weight. Especially if they are on a second floor flat which someone suggested earlier?

As a medical scientist I am truly disgusted at the utter rubbish that ill-informed people have come out with. This baby was not born healthy as stated on the CA facebook page. From the moment of conception his fate was sealed. I do not understand why his parents are so full of rage for a world renown hospital that has behaved impeccably and looked into every possible chance for Charlie.

yolofish · 26/07/2017 11:08

re the abuse - someone on CA has found someone at GOSH with the same name and are assuming it is her. I'm pretty sure it's not, but if you are a troll what better way to cause trouble than by 'impersonating' someone who works there? sick.

FrogsSitonLogs · 26/07/2017 11:09

Can you just plug a ventilator into a wall socket, or extension cable? Care settings have generators in case of power outages.

But it's not just a case of a ventilator, it's the home oxygen, suction, ton of equipment, the suitable bed, medication and 101 other things that require anyone on ventilation to go home. Plus medical staff.

This is what CA fail to understand. It's not just a case of take him home, plug the vent in, find a nurse!

The weight AND the fact that Charlie would have to be detached from it and hand ventilated whilst being transported upstairs.
