Twelve people confirmed dead with that number expected to rise significantly.

Many others injured and distressed. People have lost relatives, friends and their homes.

250 firefighters in attendance, risking their lives in an unprecented fire and it's aftermath. Other emergency services and NHS staff working hard to help survivors.

Many questions to be answered.

Flowers to all those affected and everyone helping.

This time last night the horror had not long begun for all these people, the dead, the alive and the missing. We can watch in horror but bless them, they and their loved ones are living it, breathing it, suffering the pain of losing everything they had, all they owned and seeing precious loved ones dying in front of their eyes.... I simply can't begin to imagine their fear and terror...The witnesses who, in front of their very eyes, saw people jumping for their lives, babies being thrown out of a building in an attempt to save their lives by parents who bravely trusted strangers with their children's lives. The amazing and truly wonderful firemen and ambulance crews who last night and today have seen sights that will stay with them forever. God love you all involved in this awful tragedy, someone somewhere will have to answer for this, but it won't change history, and won't bring these people back, nor restore their memories to a safer time and place..It is about time those in power realised people come before profits

Tenants do not get a say over who does work in their home. When an HA gives a tender to a company that company sees the HA as the customer NOT the tenant.

This is a MASSIVE gap in consumer law which needs to change.

Justaboy · 15/06/2017 01:20

For a moment never mind the politics and that .

Just see how quickly this clad building goes up identical to Grenfeel tower.

We've been here before:-(

BigYellow,

It was never about me. What would make you think that? FGS

That is horrible. Look at my posting history. OMG.

Like I said, stand back and let the enquiries sort it out.

StatisticallyChallenged · 15/06/2017 01:22

I spotted that article Gluteus - it's rare that Hopkins writes something that isn't filled with bile but for once...she seems to be pretty on the money.

SerfTerf · 15/06/2017 01:22

Oh god @Justaboy, its just like polystyrene on a bonfire. Where is that? Netherlands? Belgium?

SerfTerf · 15/06/2017 01:23

That's twice Kate Hopkins has made sense this year. She must be sickening.

Justaboy · 15/06/2017 01:24

1:23 onwards!

gluteustothemaximus · 15/06/2017 01:25

Yes, I was surprised too, and she is bang on.

Justaboy · 15/06/2017 01:25

SerfTerf In France but here are others around the world!

BigYellowJumper · 15/06/2017 01:27

soda you made it about you talking about your right to free speech.

You're the one telling people their response is wrong: where's their right to free speech then?

Anyway, done with you, this is not the place to bicker.

SerfTerf · 15/06/2017 01:29

It really is about cosmetic appearances isn't it? What the cockneys call a "tosh up".

CheeseQueen · 15/06/2017 01:31

My 6 year old asked me why so many of the people in flats are black and brown

Just seen this on the previous thread. I hope you told him people come in many shapes and colours but we're all the same inside. People.
He's just seeing people on the news. Just like he sees someone with brown hair, and others have blonde. Some have white skin, some have black.
We're all the same.

HelenaDove · 15/06/2017 01:33

Yep Cognitive dissonance.

sodablackcurrant · 15/06/2017 01:34

Oh sod it.

I hope the victims get the help they deserve.

From Central Government and the Council.

Great to donate don't get me wrong, it is what I did too.

But the powers that be didn't do anything today did they? Could be totally wrong about that. I often am.

toffeeboffin · 15/06/2017 01:35

Absolutely bloody awful news again for London.

People who don't think this is a political issue need their heads read.

BigYellowJumper · 15/06/2017 01:36

cheese

We're not all the same though. We are all different and we are treated differently based on our skin colour.

You can't just whitewash people's experiences by saying 'we're all the same'.

Black and Asian people are disproportionately poor in the UK. There are reasons for that, and saying things like 'we're all the same' makes it harder for people's voices to be heard and for people to understand why non-white people are more likely live in poverty.

SylviaPoe · 15/06/2017 01:38

Soda, I still don't understand what point you're trying to make. Can you explain?

SerfTerf · 15/06/2017 01:40

For a six year old (presumably living in a very "white area")?

"There are lots of black and brown people in London. London has been an international city ever since big ships first docked on the Thames. People have traveled from many places to live, work and have families there"

That's about right for 6yo isn't it?

CheeseQueen · 15/06/2017 01:41

We're not all the same though. We are all different and we are treated differently based on our skin colour.

In my head we are all the same. I don't give a shit what colour people are and teach my children that we're all the same inside too. The fact that people are treated differently truly makes me feel sickened.

RhythmAndStealth · 15/06/2017 01:43

Hoping, with others, that today marks a genuine turning point. A real time for national soul searching, shame and anger that this could happen here. A turning point that changes what we consider acceptable.

So many people have lost their lives or had their lives devastated by this tragedy. The residents of Grenfell Tower. Their families, friends and neighbours. The firefighters who will never be able to forget what they saw.

I didn't want to comment at the risk of a derail but I think Serf has the balance just right. Six is too young for a systemic racism talk, but you also don't want to educate them to be "colourblind".

BigYellowJumper · 15/06/2017 01:48

cheese I know what you're saying but I find it pretty pointless to pretend that colour doesn't matter.

This link explains it better than me.

We SHOULD be explaining to our kids why black and Asian people disproportionately live in poorer conditions than white people. We can't just cover up the problems by saying we're all the same. That is a well-meaning platitude but a platitude nonetheless.

HelenaDove · 15/06/2017 01:49

I really hope that turning point is finally here.

RhythmAndStealth · 15/06/2017 01:50

Watching Newsnight on iPlayer was an eye opener for me Helena. Can't remember when I last saw so much horror and revulsion shared by people from all walks of life.
