Black Lives Matter campaigners

I am a little confused as to why these guys are demonstrating. There seems to be no obvious catalyst - i.e. in response to a recent example of police racial prejudice. Also isn't BLM an American organisation? It just seems like they are making a point for the sake of it rather than getting themselves heard in a more constructive way. Also, IMO all lives matter, so equality should be the same whatever race you are. I can't really see how are they going to do much more than annoy people by blocking roads.

What are British BLM protestors protesting against though? Buzzfeed has pictures of the police chatting and laughing with protestors in Nottingham, it all looks perfectly relaxed. Not like the footage of American protestors getting charged, beaten and tear gassed.

American police do shoot without provocation, we've seen that. In London this week a Somali man stabbed a woman to death and was taken into custody unarmed.

I looked up unlawful killing stats and found this www.inquest.org.uk/statistics/unlawful-killing-verdicts-and-prosecutions The only one this so far was white.

I do agree that black people are more likely to live in poverty, more likely to be affected by violence, more likely to have absent fathers, and more likely to be excluded from school, and be imprisoned, but that's not a straight-forward issue to be solved like 'Stop Killing Us'.

Of course all lives matter but right now blacklivesmatter. It's the same as going to an aids rally and shouting cancer kills as well. We all know cancer kills as well but right now we need to talk about aids.

There is racism in this country, this might be to do with the latest black woman killed in America or it might of already been planned. Not sure why but they have a point and we should take it on board.

This protest feels particularly uncalled for to basically target families and disrupt their attempts to catch planes to go on holiday. What do they hope to achieve by that?

OP, what they're saying is Black lives matter as much as any other race, not that it matters more than others. What you are saying, 'all lives matter' is exactly the point they are trying to make because to date as well as in the past, black lives have always mattered less than white lives. Case in point being the way they are currently being slaughtered by police in the U.S.

I'm saddened by the insistence on making this all about a particular race. I think such tactics are racist in and of themselves.

I was with a group recently and one of the women was talking about BLM and the fact that her own entire identity is about her colour, it informs her whole life; another women (non-White, non-Black) said that if she'd spoken that way she felt she would have sounded as though she thought her own race/culture/colour was superior to everyone else's.

It was an interesting discussion.

I understand that bringing attention to racist violent policemen is vital, but I'm not convinced it needs to be done this way.

Every life matters equally. To think otherwise is racist.

I don't know the answer specifically, this week but it isn't like anyone would need to look far for a reason.

Does there need to be a specific up-to-the-minute trigger? Do they need to wait for the next death in custody or something?

Maybe they consider themselves a global movement.

Maybe the continued poorer outcomes for BAME youth and adults across a range of measures feel enough reason for them?

If you are going to put someone on the radio.
Make sure that they can add value to the campaign. If she is the best speaker that they have - the campaign is a joke.

You think the British BLM campaign is a supremacist movement? Seriously?

I understand the BLM issues in America but not here. I live quite near one of the protest site and tbh all it will do is be a PITA to road users as it will transfer from there to local villages and garner little sympathy.
Also wondering if it is just lead up to riots similar to those just under five years ago.
