I have to say that I can't stand BB although I occasionally get drawn into it simply through morbid fascination. I haven't seen this series at all, but have read all the stuff in the media. I think it's not that far removed in some ways from the romans watching gladiators fighting to the death. I would love to see BB get its proverbial backside sued off or closed down for good. I don't agree with what they do in terms of putting vulnerable and mentally unstable people into a stressful situation and then broadcasting the results in the name of "entertainment". It's exploitation of the worst kind in my opinion.

Just heard on the radio that Carphone Warehouse are pulling their sponsorhip with Immediate Effect!

Blu · 18/01/2007 14:06

Probably well-placed cynicsm, Cod, but BB / Endemol / C4 won't be liking the loss of cash!

100PerCentCod · 18/01/2007 14:07

hmm maybe thats it now

Aloha · 18/01/2007 14:07

The gorilla coat thing was just a stunt for the newspapers. I think it would be wrong for the police to get involved with this. I think the day saying 'do you live in a shack' or 'they all eat with their hands there, or is it China' or 'I can't pronounce your name' is a crime, is a bad day indeed. Yes, they are behaving appallingly, the comments are racist and the women are utterly revolting people, but I think expecting them to be arrested is wrong.

NutterlyUts · 18/01/2007 14:08

I think a lot of the house ARE scared of Jade. There have been many news stories of her violent temper - fights in nightclubs w/jack and does anyone remember her trying to stab Jeff Braizer with a knife while pregnant?

It may be that most of the house DOESN'T agree with Jade but are too scared of possible problems to do anything that could have Jade on their case - who knows? I don't know what's been shown on TV or not, but if Jade has given the house a glimpse of her scary true colours, they might be choosing to be spineless (and safe) then sticking up for Shilpa and possibly being in the firing range? I know which I'd pick, gutless as it is.

Rhubarb · 18/01/2007 14:08

I don't watch BB. But I read the first few messages on this thread and then the last few and I have to say I agree with the first few.

Bullies pick on any difference, whether you be fat or thin, short or tall, poor or rich. Basically if you are seen as "different" in any way then you are fair game.

It's not racist as such. They are ignorant but aren't all bullies? Ignorance has little to do with it anyway. I am fairly ignorant about Eskimos, their culture and so on, but I wouldn't behave like these girls are doing.

Tbh, if she was white I believe she would still be picked on. It's nothing to do with her race, they have decided that she doesn't 'fit in' and that's that.

But like most people, I would like to see their careers ended too, they are talentless has-beens and this country is too obsessed with celebrity status. It's about time we had some proper role models.

Rhubarb · 18/01/2007 14:11

And this is just great for Ch4! They don't care whether it is racist or not, they have the whole country talking about it - ratings will be sky high!

I'd like to see the producers arrested for having no morals.

Tortington · 18/01/2007 14:14

i disagree,

if she is being picked on - becuase of her difference - which is her skin colour - its racism.

if she is being bullied by virtue of being indian - its racism

Aloha · 18/01/2007 14:17

I don't think her being Indian is WHY they are picking on her though. I think they are picking on her because she is so different to them - classier, prettier, more educated, a different class, the men like her etc. It's not that they don't like her for being a different race, they are being racist because they don't like/resent/are envious of her. As I said earlier, I believe if she was posh and beautiful and poised and successful and white, they'd hate her just as much, but they'd find different ways to abuse her.

Blu · 18/01/2007 14:18

Rhubarb - could you read a few posts in the middle?

MummyPenguin · 18/01/2007 14:18

Read your post, AitchtwoOh, and yes, the thread is moving fast, but wanted to respond by saying that at no point in my earlier post did I suggest that Shilpa forfeited any Human Rights by agreeing to go on the show. That's the problem with discussions like this, opinions and remarks get taken out of context, and words get put in people's mouths. All I said was that I was surprised that someone of Shilpa's calibre, if that's the right word, would want to go on such a programme. Perhaps, yes, she was 'duped' by being sent tapes on 'nicer' shows. Merely an individual opinion.
