From now on the race becomes winner take all. If Trump wins Florida on March 15, it is probably all over.

You make that assumption because... ?

I mean, you don't know anything about her except for what she has said on TV & in newspapers. And what she has said shows without a doubt that she is truly dumb and woefully ignorant.

CoteDAzur · 17/03/2016 19:37

Trump answers the question "What is 2+2?"

"I have to say a lot of people have been asking this question. No, really. A lot of people come up to me, and they ask me. They say, 'What's 2+2'? And I tell them, look, we know what 2+2 is. We've had almost eight years of the worst kind of math you can imagine. Oh, my God, I can't believe it. Addition and subtraction of the 1s the 2s and the 3s. It's terrible. It's just terrible. Look, if you want to know what 2+2 is, do you want to know what 2+2 is? I'll tell you. First of all the number 2, by the way, I love the number 2. It's probably my favorite number, no it is my favorite number. You know what, it's probably more like the number two but with a lot of zeros behind it. A lot. If I'm being honest, I mean, if I'm being honest. I like a lot of zeros. Except for Marco Rubio, now he's a zero that I don't like. Though, I probably shouldn't say that. He's a nice guy, but he's like, '10101000101,' on and on, like that. He's like a computer! You know what I mean? He's like a computer. I don't know. I mean, you know. So, we have all these numbers, and we can add them and subtract them and add them. TIMES them even. Did you know that? We can times them OR divide them, they don't tell you that, and I'll tell you, no one is better at the order of operations than me. You wouldn't believe it. So, we're gonna be the best on 2+2, believe me."

Sounds like him, doesn't it. Yes, this is what we mean by 'verbal diarrhoea' Grin

Lweji · 17/03/2016 20:08

Cote Grin

Palin's verbal diarrhoea and how clueless she is at the same time.
I love the comment about how she has a way with words. Genius.

CoteDAzur · 17/03/2016 20:20

It is really not a good sign that a Google search for Sarah Palin verbal diarrhea returns 40,400 results Grin

There was also her famous Iowa speech that ended her ambitions of running for president. Her prompter failed mid-speech and she had to improvise. Oh boy. That was not a pretty sight. Very very funny, but not pretty Grin

claig · 17/03/2016 20:30

That is a very condescending piece by someone who is obviously not a conservative and is most probably left wing.

The reason Palin is popular, and which he doesn't understand, is that she is a populist, just like Trump, which means they stand up for the people, think like the people and speak like the people which is why Trump's twitter is just like many people's while David Cameron's or Hillary's is like a wonk.

She uses the term "back asswards" which she has made up and he mocks it and says "I understand, I'm with the people too" but that is a brilliant made up word that jars and expresses a concept in direct popular language.

And most of teh rest of her positions are standard conservative/populist positions such as "cut taxes" and the objective in Afghanisatn is to get the government in Afghanisatn to be able to rule (obviously after having defeated the Taliban militarily using General McChrystal's expertise) and on the Palestinian settlement issue she basically supports Israel.

He doesn't like some of her positions, but that doesn't make her stupid.

She is a populist who communicates in direct language to the people which is why she is popular among non-establishment conservatives. She doesn't use the winkish language that Hillary or Gordon brown use such as Gordon's "exogenous neo-classical growth theory" because most people prefer the words back asswards". She "keeps it real" and direct.

She's an idiot.

LineyReborn · 17/03/2016 20:37

And I suspect you are suggesting that the people who like her are supportive of her idiocy.

claig · 17/03/2016 20:39

Palin is a common sense, tell it like it is conservative, just like Trump. That is why she is popular among the conservative base but not with the conservative establishment, modernisers and left wingers.

"Gov. Palin Gutsy, “Tell it Like it is” Conservative"

"Karen Handel said on the Palin Update with Kevin Scholla “it is absolutely thrilling. I am so honored and excited,” about the endorsement by former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin of her run for Senate. Gov. Palin endorsed Handel in 2010 for a gubernatorial run. “She is such a strong voice…for the conservative movement. She’s common-sense and tells it like it is. For her to have the confidence in me to be the next United States Senator for Geogia is just very humbling and I am so appreciative.”

LineyReborn, they don't think she is an idiot, they think that someone like Hillary Benn is an idiot. Everyone is different and has different viewpoints.

"He doesn't like some of her positions, but that doesn't make her stupid."

You're right. It's not her positions views that make her stupid. It's her stupidity that makes her stupid. Which I would guess is why she holds those views.

You really need to watch Game Change. It is based on the non-fiction book by the same name that tells the story of the 2008 US Presidential Election.

claig · 17/03/2016 21:01

I just watched the Florida Attorney General being interviewed on Fox and I have to admit, I wasn't impressed, she didn't seem to be as bright as Sarah Palin, but SenecaFalls would probably know if this was just a one-off bad interview or not.

Look, her position regarding Afghanistan is stupid because she doesn't realise that people there just won't live peacefully and get happily along when foreign forces leave.
It's not her position on whether to stay in or leave Afghanistan, it's her not realising what happens when the US leaves. That is not a matter of position.

The same for her "position" on Israeli settlements. She has no idea what is happening there.

Neither of these are obscure foreign issues. She should have done her homework on them.

Lweji · 17/03/2016 21:24

And the last thing she communicates is in any sort of direct language. It's completely garbled.
I think even Trump was quietly bemused at her endorsement speech.

BigChocFrenzy · 17/03/2016 21:27

"she didn't seem to be as bright as Sarah Palin" Shock Then I presume she's in a garden and they are watering her !

claig · 17/03/2016 21:32

'I think even Trump was quietly bemused at her endorsement speech.'

That is true. She was a bit hyper that night, but the crowd loved it even if he started having some doubts.

'it's her not realising what happens when the US leaves'

No, her position as a conservative is to support the military and the surge asked for by the General there. She blames Obama for not following through and doing enough. The theory was that if the troops defeat the Taliban and train up the Afghan government forces then when the US troops leave, the Afghan Government should be able to maintain control of the country. That was the theory, it didn't work out. She would probably say because Obama didn't throw enough force in as the General wanted.

'The same for her "position" on Israeli settlements. She has no idea what is happening there. '

The impression I got is that she didn't really care about the Palestinians in the settlements and supported Israel's right to expand the settlements. I think she understands it but doesn't care about the Palestinians.

I've read the Game Change book twice; it is very absorbing reading. In the movie my favorite parts are the facial reactions of Palin's handlers as they gradually realize that the campaign has made a mistake of mythic proportions. I might just have to watch it again tonight. I remember that several of my friends were considering supporting McCain because they were so upset that Hillary had lost. Once he picked Palin, they were firmly in the Obama camp.

claig · 17/03/2016 21:33

'Then I presume she's in a garden and they are watering her !'

Grin What was scary is that she said she is fed up of taking the President to court or something like that.

All of which brings to mind, who will be the number two candidates on each ticket?

CoteDAzur · 17/03/2016 21:35

BigChoc Grin

I can't think of a worse insult than "Not as bright as Sarah Palin", tbh.

BigChocFrenzy · 17/03/2016 21:38

A slight digression (but we've had many here !):

Nate Silver dug up some statistics that suggest concrete damage for Trump of his supporters' racism: slightly fewer delegates.

" from the primary voting in Illinois on Tuesday. There’s clear evidence that Trump supporters in Illinois gave fewer votes to Trump-pledged delegate candidates who have minority or foreign-sounding names like “Sadiq,” .... potentially costing him 3 of the state’s 69 delegates"

Trump is only just on course to get a delegate majority, so losing a few here and there could cost him the nomination. That would be quite ironic.

LineyReborn · 17/03/2016 21:39

I think one of my cats is not as bright as Sarah Palin. But only one of them.

Lweji · 17/03/2016 21:40

claig, that's what you hope she was saying, but it's not at all.

By the way, I'm just watching a clip where she says "If I were in charge, they would know that waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists". Well...It's wrong at some many levels. In fact, I'd say she's blasphemous. Shock

And she thinks saying jihad offends muslims.

CoteDAzur · 17/03/2016 21:44

"The impression I got is that she didn't really care about the Palestinians in the settlements and supported Israel's right to expand the settlements."

No, she just said "Well, more Jewish people will keep coming so Israel needs more houses for them that's why they need more settlements", clearly showing her complete lack of understanding of the issues and the stakes. Yeah, OK, population might increase but do you have any fucking idea where those settlements are and what sort of trouble it causes for Israelis as well as Palestinians that they continue to grow like a cancer into Palestinian territory? I swear if she were any more of a muppet she wouldn't know how to breathe Hmm

BigChocFrenzy · 17/03/2016 21:47

I get the impression she doesn't consider the Palestinians to be people, but just part of the livestock

BigChocFrenzy · 17/03/2016 21:59

Her idiocy wrt Afghanistan is related to her abysmal ignorance of world history and understanding how societies function:
Afghanistan has never been a functioning country, with a central government that actually controls the territory. It's basically just a collection of primitive tribes lumped together on a map, who normally wage perpetual war amongst themselves, but are always ready to fight any attempts to rule them.

Quite different to the 2 countries that Americans normally think of, who they occupied and who then became successful democracies - Germany and Japan of course.

Surprising that she also can't understand how irrationally religious nutters behave
