From now on the race becomes winner take all. If Trump wins Florida on March 15, it is probably all over.

Want2bSupermum, Sarah Palin is a true conservative. She had the courage to endorse Trump early on when no one dared to go against the Esatblishment and do it. She has principles. Trump will end the free trade deals negotiated by the "bought and paid for" that destroyed so much of US industry and jobs.

"Trump’s trade rhetoric splits party and makes economists quake"

Palin challenged the media over their support of the protestors who threatened free speech

"We don't have time for all that petty, punk-ass little thuggery stuff that's been going on with these 'protesters,' who are doing nothing but wasting your time and trying to take away your First Amendment rights," she said. "And the media being on the thugs' side -- what the heck are you guys thinking, media?"

Palin is like Trump, she is not politically correct and she backed Trump when all the billionaires would probably have preferred for her to back Jeb Bush or even Cruz, who is much less of a threat to them than Trump, at the beginning.

You are correct for once, claig. Sarah Palin is very much like Trump. They are both clueless, taste-free, stupid, and effortlessly offensive. They both talk without saying anything meaningful.

Two peas in a pod. They should have a love child and name her Hamburger-Rose. (I would have said Chardonnay but that's forrin so won't do)

SenecaFalls · 17/03/2016 17:25

Last night I watched the movie Game Change with Julianne Moore as Palin, for the second or third time. Highly recommended for anyone interested in US politics (so all on this thread, certainly).

Lweji · 17/03/2016 17:42

Interesting article by leftwing oxbridge elite establishment wizzkid no doubt on how Trump could and has been damaging how the USA is perceived abroad. And certainly as a non-US resident, I agree.

LineyReborn · 17/03/2016 17:55

Palin is as thick as shit.

claig · 17/03/2016 18:00

Simon Anhalt is a Professor of Political Science at University of East Naglia, studied at Oxford. He is writing in the left wing Guardian. Of course he thinks Trump has damaged the US image because he is reflective of the prvailing Establishment view

"We live in an age of huge global challenges: climate change, poverty, war, terrorism, mass migration, economic turmoil, pandemics, weapons proliferation and drug-trafficking, to name just the most obvious ones. All of these challenges have been made bigger, more powerful, more complex and more persistent as a result of globalization.

No single country is capable of resolving any of these challenges on its own. We need to start prioritizing cooperation and collaboration as much if not more than competition if we’re to offer future generations the prospect of a peaceful, safe, happy, prosperous existence."

Tony Blair would lap this type of stuff up. But Trump is the opposite of the globalists and the global governance crowd of Establishment thinkers which is why Trump has made Blair "anxious". Trump believes that America can resolve these challenges on its own and in new partnerships and trade deals that suit American interests and not global or Ozbridge interests. Trump is going to "Make America Great Again" which is why the globalists are "anxious".

Trump challenges their entire worldview. That is why this election has been described as being "a battle for the soul of America" and that is why the left wing agitators have been set on him to try and intimidate him and shut his free speech down.

But Trump has Sarah palin on his side who said

"We don't have time for all that petty, punk-ass little thuggery stuff that's been going on with these 'protesters'

so Anonymous and the left wing agitators have been set on Trump.

We don't know who will win, but it will be a huge year for the world.

I recommended Gane Change to claig a while back but I don't think she took my advice.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 17/03/2016 18:09

Thanks for the film recommendation!

claig · 17/03/2016 18:10

Yes, thanks Cote, I noted it down, but haven't had time to watch it yet. Events are moving so fast in Trumpworld that it is difficult to keep up with the Establishment's attempts to steal the nomination from Trump.

OP posts:
CoteDAzur · 17/03/2016 18:17

I'm sure we can live without your constant presence for a few hours if you want to watch the film.

Really, claig. We also have Internet access and are capable of finding articles to read on our own.

LineyReborn · 17/03/2016 18:26

Seriously, claig, Sarah Palin is nuts and ignorant.

This is a massive wind-up now, right?

claig · 17/03/2016 18:32

It is not a wind up, Sarah Palin is a Tea Party favourite, one of the most popular conservative politicians in America which is why Trump was so pleased to get her nomination. The media portrays her as "nuts" because she is a conservative and is therefore a threat to the Establishment.

This is real politics that is happening in America and if Trump wins, nothing will be the same again

OP posts:
Mistigri · 17/03/2016 18:36

I always feel a bit reluctant to take the piss out of Palin because when you hear her speak she obviously isn't "right", she talks like someone who's suffered brain damage at some point, or who is drugged. The words come out but don't hang together in any way that makes sense in English. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that she has an alcohol or painkiller problem.

claig · 17/03/2016 18:42

Establishment conservatives don't like Pali, just as they don't like Trump, but Ted Cruz, Trump and many ordinary conservative voters, who are mainly all anti-establishment, do like Palin who herself is anti-establishment.

"If there is one politician in the world that Trump, who has thus far defied classification, is most alike, it is Palin. The two harness the same anger that has been brewing in a large swath of the Republican base for years.

That spitting resentment was apparent on Tuesday. “No more pussyfooting around. … Are you ready for the leader to make America great again?” she asked a roaring crowd at Iowa State University, with Trump standing next to her grinning like the Cheshire cat. “Are you ready to stump for Trump? I’m here to support the next president of the United States—Donald Trump.”
...
But the naysayers misunderestimate Palin’s unique appeal—and that of her chosen heir, Trump. In a normal election year, Donald Trump’s three marriages and his casinos would discount him amongst the social conservative, largely evangelical Iowa Republican primary electorate. But this is a base that isn’t looking for a peacetime nominee. They’re looking for a wartime nominee and the enemy is Washington.

If battle with the establishment is your goal, there is no greater ally than Palin, who has made a very lucrative career out of being the bane of the Grand Old Party’s existence. Just ask Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who, Trump noted in the news release announcing Palin’s endorsement, once said that he “would not be in the United States Senate were it not for Gov. Sarah Palin. … She can pick winners.”

No, claig, it's not that 'the media portray' Palin as nuts.

That's how she comes across to actual people. She is ignorant.

claig · 17/03/2016 19:04

I don't know enough about her, only the few clips we see on our news. She does have a hyper style but I haven't seen enough of her interviews etc to know exactly what she is like. But I know that conservative Tea Partiers do like her because she is a fighter who takes it to the Establishment and who is not politically correct, in the same way that Trump is.

Read a transcript claig ... often it's verbal diarrhoea, a string of clichés or set phrases put together in a way that is nonsense in the literal meaning of the word (non-sense).

When I said I think she is on pills that wasn't snark. I don't think she's all there.

claig · 17/03/2016 19:20

Yes, I know what you mean, but sometimes that is called "keeping it real" as opposed to the spin that someone like Blair trots out.

Tthey say the same about Trump (the barstewards)

"Trump’s verbal diarrhea

I watched the CNN town hall with Trump.

I watched it so you don’t have to, cause let me tell you, it’s nearly unbearable for anyone who’s even remotely intellectual to listen to Trump talk. The fact that his voters are able to, and actually enjoy it, tells me everything I need to know about their intelligence and education."

Am I bashing Trump voters? Yes, and I don’t hide that fact.

The word you are looking for is endorsement.

How is not stringing an idea together "keeping it real"?

How is "I am educated. I know words", "keeping it real"?

Or is that just dumbing?

CoteDAzur · 17/03/2016 19:29

Yes, sense-free verbal diarrhoea. Another thing Palin and Trump have in common.

Palin's endorsement speech was flabbergastastic Grin

(just so you know others can copy/paste, too, claig)

The Most Mystifying Lines of Sarah Palin’s Endorsement Speech

Below, a list of 10 of the most memorable lines of the speech, and an attempt to translate them:

“They stomp on our neck, and then they tell us, ‘Just chill, O.K., just relax.’ Well, look, we are mad, and we’ve been had. They need to get used to it.”

An impressive example of internal rhyme — if a tad violent, as Mrs. Palin describes the Republican establishment trying to quash the anger of the party’s rebellious base.

___

“We’re talking about no more Reaganesque power that comes from strength. Power through strength.”

Whoops! Mrs. Palin seems to be grasping for President Ronald Reagan’s signature Cold War slogan, “Peace through strength.”

___

“And you quit footing the bill for these nations who are oil-rich, we’re paying for some of their squirmishes that have been going on for centuries. Where they’re fighting each other and yelling ‘Allahu akbar,’ calling jihad on each other’s heads forever and ever. Like I’ve said before, let them duke it out and let Allah sort it out.”

Here, Mrs. Palin accomplishes many things unusual for a political speaker: She recites the Arabic phrase for “God is great,” and, more notably, coins a new word, squirmishes, a cross between squirm (which means to wriggle the body from side to side) and skirmish (which means a brief fight or encounter between small groups). Twitter embraced the new term instantly.

___

“How about the rest of us? Right-winging, bitter-clinging, proud clingers of our guns, our God, and our religion, and our Constitution.”

Remember President Obama’s famously dismissive description of conservatives as bitter people who “cling to guns or religion” before a crowd of wealthy donors in San Francisco? Mrs. Palin wants to make sure you never forget it.

___

“He is from the private sector, not a politician. Can I get a ‘Hallelujah!’ ”

Mrs. Palin goes godly as she enthuses about the business world.

___

“Mr. Trump, you’re right, look back there in the press box. Heads are spinning, media heads are spinning. This is going to be so much fun.”

This is perhaps the most accurate statement in her speech.

___

“In fact it’s time to drill, baby, drill down, and hold these folks accountable.”

The slogan Mrs. Palin popularized in 2008 just won’t die. And it has taken on metaphoric meaning now.

___

“Well, and then, funny, ha ha, not funny, but now, what they’re doing is wailing, ‘Well, Trump and his Trumpeters, they’re not conservative enough.’ ”

We’re still stumped by this one.

___

“And he, who would negotiate deals, kind of with the skills of a community organizer maybe organizing a neighborhood tea, well, he deciding that, ‘No, America would apologize as part of the deal,’ as the enemy sends a message to the rest of the world that they capture and we kowtow, and we apologize, and then, we bend over and say, ‘Thank you, enemy.’ ”

It’s a mouthful. But this section, in which Mrs. Palin contrasts Mr. Trump with Mr. Obama, has everything she relishes: Mockery of Mr. Obama’s early years working in Chicago neighborhoods, right-wing accusations that the president has apologized for America, and a crude reference to him as a submissive sissy on foreign policy.

___

“He’s got the guts to wear the issues that need to be spoken about and debate on his sleeve, where the rest of some of these establishment candidates, they just wanted to duck and hide. They didn’t want to talk about these issues until he brought ’em up. In fact, they’ve been wearing a, this, political correctness kind of like a suicide vest.”

Her biggest misstep in the speech: In 2016, fear of suicide bombers is real for many, not the stuff of political punch lines.

claig · 17/03/2016 19:30

My guess is that Palin is cleverer than she makes out and keeps it simple, the same way Trump does, to communicate directly.

OP posts:
claig · 17/03/2016 19:35

Yes, those examples are what many conservatives like about her. She has a direct style of speaking, she is a fighter, she is not a spinner and is not politically correct. That explains her popularity among the ordinary Republican base. It doesn't appeal to Democrat or Labour voters, but it appeals to a lot of conservatives.
