Guardian: Press complaints regarding any misrepresentationmof number of assaults.

Also it was not just Cologne. Reports of large numbers of group street sex assaults on NYE in Hamburg, Stuttgart..

Attacks on women at nightclub in Bielefeld where a crowd of 500 were gathered and clashed with police. Attacks in town of Kalmar , Sweden.

Helsinki police acting on tip offs to prevent mass trouble and admitting there was very little they could do about new phenomenon of gang attacks on underage females in autumn.

The festering , rumoured abuse in refugee centres in Germany. That upsets me most tbh. Deliberately ignored it seems.

Finnish police at least acknowledge this problem and say they are active.

Guardian journalist response makes me angry.

We really are being blocked by those with poor English skills and those unwilling to start the petition. We can't move forward without the petition.

LumelaMme · 14/01/2016 10:49

So 40 attacks on one night in one square is okay then?
this is not to downplay any incidents of a sexual nature
Oh yes it is. It is to ignore them completely if they don't fit the stricter definition.

Tim Farron has been emailed.

LumelaMme · 14/01/2016 10:50

Okay, Vertigo, how to we get the petition up?
do we still need to rephrase?

VertigoNun · 14/01/2016 10:50

Yes we need to rephrase. I will link it again.

I read about a quarter of this ill informed and badly written article. What a pile of utter tripe.
"In Germany, New Year’s Eve celebrations turned nasty as up to 40 incidents of sexual assault, many by Arab or north African migrants, were reported. And in Sweden, attacks on women were undeclared by authorities allegedly because the perpetrators were immigrant men, reportedly of Afghan origin."

"Turned nasty"???????????
It also implies that the attacks weren't covered up in Germany.

"Europe-wide spasm of self-doubt, a cold shower of realism after the warm righteousness of hospitality." which book of journalistic shite cliches did he pick that one from?

It is the "warm righteousness of hospitality." which bothers me. If Germany had not accepted so many people the headlines would have been "Racist Germany strikes again" So Germany took a lot of people claiming to be refugees in and they are now seen to have been taking the moral high ground in taking in people claiming to be refugees.

If he lived here he would realise that not everyone felt hospitable and nor do they feel hospitable now towards people who are not refugees and have no reason to claim asylum but still arrive here and try anyway. Nor do they feel hospitable towards gangs of young single men hanging around in cities who only seem intent on criminal activity.

The crowning glory has to be this - "But instead of answering whether we care more about women or immigrants, we should reject that question altogether."
That question has already clearly been answered by the actions of Governments and Police throughout Europe in the last few weeks.

LumelaMme · 14/01/2016 10:54

Provided it won't be published, I am happy for my email to be used.

80 characters. That's tight.

VertigoNun · 14/01/2016 10:54

In case it was previously missed.

If you don't want to be outed you can send me the petition link in a pm and I will post it.

Five emails, your email, David Davis email he suggested the petition and several pp offered email address they will pm you.

VertigoNun · 14/01/2016 10:56

Emails won't be published.

VertigoNun · 14/01/2016 10:59

But instead of answering whether we care more about women or immigrants, we should reject that question altogether."

We need to backlash him telling us to STFU!

DespicableBee · 14/01/2016 11:00

I find it hard to believe that out of 252 complaints to the police which were of a sexual nature only 40 were sexual assault??? The rest was just so dual harassment😕

LumelaMme · 14/01/2016 11:00

After the Cologne assaults, to debate how women's rights are to be upheld in future.

That's under 80 I think. Would that work.

VertigoNun · 14/01/2016 11:01

Another Man telling Women to STFU.

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 14/01/2016 11:01

In the Guardian piece i am struck also by the accusation of narcissism if one is to expect any gratitude.

So Good people will just accept bad behaviour. We are unreasonable to expect anything from others. Take it on the chin women!

DespicableBee · 14/01/2016 11:01

Just sexual harassmen

VertigoNun · 14/01/2016 11:02

Lum. Thanks. Now we need to sort the body of text out.

LumelaMme · 14/01/2016 11:03

People, I have work to do: the guilt is getting to me big time. I really can't spend anymore time on this until later this afternoon. Vertigo, I am pming you my email address.

Sorry. I have time and passion. I am limited and don't want to piss off pendants with poor English, they won't put their name to the petition if I write it.

Thanks for your input and time.

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 14/01/2016 11:08

Just to point out Nesrine M the Guardian writer is a woman.

fidel1ne · 14/01/2016 11:08

Two victims of Paris assault being interviewed on BBC2 now,

LumelaMme · 14/01/2016 11:09

I'm a pedant, Vertigo.

If you want to write the body text, I'm happy to edit it later on today.

given your user name, for relaxation, you need these.

VertigoNun · 14/01/2016 11:17

Two screenshots. We still need to edit and for someone to start the petition.

Vertigo - are you prepared to do it? Fantastic - I'll PM you my email.
That Guardian article has made me so angry - I can't express it in words.
The journalist is a woman She obviously has a poor imagination. Can't imagine how it would have felt to be ONE of those only '40' [sic] cases. Not only what physically happened to them but the fear of what could happen to them in such an out of control, lawless situation - I really am so angry.
Think of Iran and Afghanistan and Egypt etc - how the lives of those women changed almost overnight - I am wondering if any of those women could see it coming so clearly and were too afraid to shout out about it.

I thought we had the right text for the description -
On New Year's Eve, hundreds of women across Europe were sexually assaulted by large gangs of men with unacceptable attitudes towards women. All women living in liberal democracies must be free to move about in public spaces and to wear what they choose, without the threat of sexual violence. In the light of these recent events, which have been recklessly minimised by sections of the mainstream media, we call on the British Government to have an honest and open debate about how they intend to address this menace to women's safety and uphold the liberal and democratic rights and freedoms of women.

we just needed the 'title'
I agree this is great - but I think it is 84 characters -

After the Cologne assaults, to debate how women's rights are to be upheld in future.

maybe

After the Cologne assaults to debate how to uphold women's rights in the future.

(which is 79 I think)

I also need to do some work ...urgently...
