Love the gifs, pink.

Pinkchampchoccies · 13/01/2016 22:15

Yes, I have changed my mind and prefer the hashtag Cologne as well.

venusinscorpio · 13/01/2016 22:18

Well Venus, if the issue is women being forced to dress a certain way, that's ceratinly not limited to one group of women is it?

Your point being?

mimishimmi · 13/01/2016 22:18

So what's the answer? Are we deliberately being pushed into another Dachau, Treblinka, Auschwitz or even Russian concentration camp situation? A lot of the problems the West is experiencing is because of all of that in the first place. Depression and PTSD was already rife. Immigrants had nothing to do with it. Those who were not involved or served in the military to stop them are absolutely terrified of those that were involved and still try to produce these situations. Ordo ab chao.

What about a list to do a request them to retweet the tweet? (Apologies if this has been done) Obviously famous / politicians tend to have a large number of followers whereas ordinary people (like me) tend to just follow and have few followers, so tweeting yourself is useless as it reaches just those few followers, who probably have few followers too. So we need to ask people for a retweet. Alastair Campbell is good for this - need to look up my list

venusinscorpio · 13/01/2016 22:19

I agree that Cologne is in the public consciousness at the moment. As an ongoing thing the others could be brought in later.

polentapies · 13/01/2016 22:22

I think Cologne too - people immediately know what it means

Olivepip59 · 13/01/2016 22:26

Another one for Cologne here.

It's a shortcut and everyone knows what it means at the moment.

I'm not on Twitter, but will put the gif on my fb when it's done.

Pinkchampchoccies · 13/01/2016 22:27

arrg, apologies for spamming the thread with gifs.... but I think the first Cologne version was odd and might need to be reduced in height for twitter... so here hopefully a version that will work.

Theresa May emailed. Personal email back from David Davies, my MEP .... nothing yet from my MP.

I vote for Cologne.

For German speakers, interesting comment in Welt by Inga Griese. "Women must not concede a millimetre of their rights (Freiheit losely translated as rights)
www.welt.de/debatte/kommentare/article150975022/Frauen-duerfen-keinen-Millimeter-Freiheit-abgeben.html

She is very brave!

polentapies · 13/01/2016 22:30

Venus, I remember watching that documentary. It's something I thought about often over these year while the wars have plundered on.

There is also 'A Thousand Splendid Suns' by Khaled Hosseini, which is a beautiful but agonising novel about women in Afghanistan

Bienchen · 13/01/2016 22:32

Thanks pinkchampchoccies, great logo.

Olivepip59 · 13/01/2016 22:48

So are we replacing our FB profile pictures with the gif?

VertigoNun · 13/01/2016 22:56

Olive, yes I am going to.

Can you please start the petition? Anyone?

Theydontknowweknowtheyknow · 13/01/2016 23:02

I really like the last draft because it does ask them to do something concrete. Thank you so much for doing this.

Moreshabbythanchic · 13/01/2016 23:04

Are we using the #Cologne one?

Olivepip59 · 13/01/2016 23:07

No I can't as I'm on my crappy phone at the moment.

Moreshabbythanchic · 13/01/2016 23:08

If thats the one we are using I'll do mine in the morning when I get on the lap top.

venusinscorpio · 13/01/2016 23:09

YY polenta, me too. I've read a Thousand Splendid Suns too. Would recommend, but it is harrowing!

Moreshabbythanchic · 13/01/2016 23:11

I read that a few years ago, must read again to refresh my memory.

VertigoNun · 13/01/2016 23:12

#Cologne2016 for the petition, fb and twitter.
I too am on my phone and I don't trust my English. I will post it here if someone wants to pm me their link and remain anonymous.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 13/01/2016 23:13

Afghanistan's women gained freedoms and lost them

Surely those freedoms were not so much lost as stolen?

Being an old gimmer, I have friends who lived in Afghanistan throughout the 60s and 70s, so the photos are unfortunately no surprise. Though happily settled in the USA now, their stories of those times are heart rending - a real illustration of the evil consequences of extremism

almondpudding · 13/01/2016 23:19

"They were asked what aspects of the issue might be racist and they said that Algerians and Moroccans 'spoiling things' for genuine Syrian refugees was racist, which I found interesting (that they confused nationality and race)"

They weren't confused. National origins is included as a category of racial discrimination internationally.

LieselMeminger · 13/01/2016 23:30

I love the logo, but just had a thought, if we needed to make a gif to make it work, then so will users searching it? If it's can't be entered by typing in twitter then other users wanting to find out about the campaign will also need to enter their text as a gif to search the hashtag? They will have the same issue as us.

Like, if we've had to create a gif to include the Female symbol, then the people we are tweeting will need to dload the gif or create one to search it. Would many twitter users take the extra steps?

Hope I'm making sense.
