www.labour.org.uk/page/s/question-for-david-cameron
I completed this yesterday
If loads of us send questions regarding cologne attacks, he's more likely to read one out

Moreshabbythanchic · 11/01/2016 18:34

All through these threads a certain saying has been going through my head, "none so blind as those who cannot will not see."

polentapies · 11/01/2016 18:35

Pink I think a march/meeting needs to be about the Rights of women to go about their business in safety - End of. I think the cities could be referenced, (banners perhaps) including Egypt Tahir SQ but also the risk of women everywhere. Have a look a this report

www.buzzfeed.com/jinamoore/women-refugees-fleeing-through-europe-are-told-rape-is-not-a#.wslE53JxG

Then we can be clear that this is not some right wing witch hunt (curious I used that term, but ho).

WildeWoman · 11/01/2016 18:36

Emily - you state 'Most of the men described so far in the press were not recent arrivals.'

Where the fuck are you getting this from? All reports overwhelmingly state that the majority are asylum seekers. Now, unless they remain asylum seekers for several decades, that makes them recent arrivals.

DespicableBee · 11/01/2016 18:39

' most of the men aren't recent alrivals' a blatant lie by emily
The reports in articles now say all of the men were migrants,

Moreshabbythanchic · 11/01/2016 18:41

I have tried too Wilde but some peoples stupidity keeps dragging my hands back to the keyboard.

DespicableBee · 11/01/2016 18:42

The reports now don't say the majority of the men were migrants, the reports now say almost exclusively migrants

WildeWoman · 11/01/2016 18:43

Oh - btw - an Irish TD (equivalent of MP) has reportedly raised this issue - more along the lines of rigorous checks on refugees..... She would have received my email yesterday. I wonder whether it had any influence!
Feel proud to be doing something to retain our rights as women and to fight for the rights of women living in unequal societies.

SISTAS! Be doing it for themselves!!!!!

shoddy article, but at least someone in Ireland is speaking about it

Cellardoor1 · 11/01/2016 18:43

", how does restricting immigartion keep us safe? Most of the men described so far in the press were not recent arrivals. They may be third generation, in which case surely they are influenced by culture in Germany as much as any Islamic culture. "

Nope, more incorrect information there, just like when you posted yesterday that 100 assaults occurred. You really need to keep updated on this story.

Can you answer the question of when was the last time a mass organized assault of women happened in Germany or Europe? Please don't say Oktoberfest again, 15 assaults over 3 weeks is not comparable. It's never happened. So this could not have been influenced by German culture, even if they are 3rd generation.

Wilde well done. I am irish but living in the US. I am outraged at this but feel that there is little I can do being so far away.

LongWayRound · 11/01/2016 18:47

Interesting article from Deutsche Welle:
www.dw.com/en/opinion-cologne-attacks-on-muslims-show-incompatibility-of-cultures/a-18971622
The author is a Pakistani journalist living in Germany.
Quote: " German society is changing, with right-wing Christian as well as Islamic groups getting stronger by the day. It is an alarming situation for the majority of secular people in Germany and Europe. If the German government wants to protect the country's secular foundations, it must increase checks on the people it intends to integrate into its society. Integration is not only about learning the German language."

WildeWoman · 11/01/2016 18:48

Smack on hand for Cellardoor too!

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 11/01/2016 18:53

Kettle No, the other way around.

DespicableBee · 11/01/2016 18:53

That's a good article long way round

venusinscorpio · 11/01/2016 18:54

Guilty LOL at Back's post. Obviously I need to get myself a copy of Cultural Relativism for Dummies.

DespicableBee · 11/01/2016 18:56

Even the pope has commented on it, why hasn't Cameron said anything

WildeWoman · 11/01/2016 18:56

Cellar door - it's far from a cellar you were reared! haha (sorry for tangent)

I'm in London, but I emailed all the Irish politicians.

try contact.ie and just click on Email All TD's or whatever it says - so you just paste one email and click send and wham bam, it's gone to them all. You will be helping women in Europe. As an Irishwoman, that's your right and your legacy. Gráinne Mhaol and all that bouldness!

Even as an expat, you probably still have an Irish vote? Hence a European voice.

HelpTheAnimalsFirst · 11/01/2016 18:56

emily Your cribsheet must be looking tatty now, and it's out of date, mate.

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 11/01/2016 18:57

There is a poster who is not consistent, putting it kindly.

WildeWoman · 11/01/2016 18:57

Yes - I read about the pope's comments. Unusual for him to get involved!

venusinscorpio · 11/01/2016 18:59

Our politicians are evidently hoping if they ignore it long enough it will go away.

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 11/01/2016 18:59

The pope sounds better than the Helsinki police chief. Strange times.

When we're the events in helsinki? Is it a reference to NYE?

Justanotherlurker · 11/01/2016 19:00

More credible source wrt Helsinki, has the floodgates opened wrt to now publishing these types of articles?
