Everyone, please listen to emily and stop being so racist. After all, these men have travelled a long way to culturally enrich us with their diversity, and we should be properly grateful for it.

Justanotherlurker · 11/01/2016 17:54

Sorry that should state in Helsinki

WillBeatJanuaryBlues · 11/01/2016 17:56

If we start to dimish our values, by becoming resistant to providing safety to those that require refuge, we will become a more intolerant society

To keep communities being open to refugees we need to reassure them they are going to be safe.

polentapies · 11/01/2016 18:02

I agree North. And don't visitors everywhere wish to sample the local delicacies

Cellardoor1 · 11/01/2016 18:06

Will I have asked her that question on at least 2 occasions. She won't answer.

Kettlebettle · 11/01/2016 18:07

It is as much a cultural thing as getting leathered and throwing up in a city centre is for young men in the UK. It isn't new. It has been a known problem in Egypt for example for many years.

From 2008

Western ideas like feminism, gay rights, freedom of speech, etc. are just so, y'know, imperialist. Of course, none of the perpetrators in Cologne were migrants - they were all members of the far right wearing very, very, convincing disguises - but if they had been, it would have been ok because protests against Western imperialism are, like, cool, y'know. And because sexual assault happens on an individual basis in Germany already, then co-ordinated sexual assault by thousands of men en masse is basically the same thing.

Hope I've got all that right - I'll double-check my copy of Cultural Relativism For Dummies later to make sure.

Wilde from what I understood, it's more or less a running commentary on what's happening in essence - not connected with the English overlays: a lot of now the girl does this, now this happens etc

(Disclaimer: I only speak a very bastardised Arabic dialect, not Egyptian Arabic, and not all the words and phrases etc are the same, so I think I could get the gist but wouldn't be able to do a word-by-word simultaneous translation! I was working in Egypt recently, and they found my spoken "Arabic" hilarious at times!)

MephistophelesApprentice · 11/01/2016 18:13

If we start to dimish our values, by becoming resistant to providing safety to those that require refuge, we will become a more intolerant society

I think our 'tolerant' society needs to decide whether it will tolerate misogyny or xenophobia, because that is the choice with which we are presented.

If we say we cannot address this highly anomalous (for the moment) act of deliberate political misogyny because of the endemic sexism of our own societies, we are placing a rape riot on the level of a cricket player propositioning a journalist: both are unacceptable and need to be addressed but one is by multiple orders of magnitude the greater threat to women's future status.

Pinkchampchoccies · 11/01/2016 18:16

Taharrush gamea

I like the idea of a demo in solidarity with Cologne. In fact if Taharrush gamea is something that has happened in various European settings as well as in North Africa, why not protest against this disgusting 'trend' in solidarity with all women who are faced with this? To put a stop to this disgusting phenomen before tit spreads.

This appalling Taharrush gamea presents a recognisable soundbite we can use it.

Kettlebettle · 11/01/2016 18:16

I assumed it was coordinated theft with sexual assault thrown in.

DespicableBee · 11/01/2016 18:22

As well as emailing your MP to raise the points, you can also email corbyn questions to ask Cameron

Room101isWhereIUsedToLive · 11/01/2016 18:26

Ego that was a brilliant post. Thank you.

emilybohemia · 11/01/2016 18:26

Wiilbeat, how does restricting immigartion keep us safe? Most of the men described so far in the press were not recent arrivals. They may be third generation, in which case surely they are influenced by culture in Germany as much as any Islamic culture.

We can't reassure them they will have complete safety. Noone is assured of that. That shouldn't be used as a reason to stop people coming.

VertigoNun · 11/01/2016 18:28

Corbyn hasn't yet sent out his email asking for PMQT public questions.

OP posts:
polentapies · 11/01/2016 18:29

Corbyn will just give some BS about respecting each other. Remember the women only train carriage thing?

Moreshabbythanchic · 11/01/2016 18:32

It has been said that most of the men, and I use that title loosely, are asylum seekers, third generation Hmmm, cant see their requests taking that long.

DespicableBee · 11/01/2016 18:32

I just went on labour party website and it says email for corbyn, what question do you want to ask Cameron

SonyaAtTheSamovar · 11/01/2016 18:32

I dread to think what JC would make of this. His minders should keep him away from the topic.

Pinkchampchoccies · 11/01/2016 18:32

"Post away."

Well done VertigoNun. Thank you.

'They may be third generation, in which case surely they are influenced by culture in Germany as much as any Islamic culture'

Absolutely right, emily - the German culture of thousands of men simultaneously assaulting hundreds of women en masse is surely to blame. Eureka!

Kettlebettle · 11/01/2016 18:33

From the BBC

'interior ministry says in a report (in German), none of them German nationals.
Those 19 suspects include 14 men from Morocco and Algeria. Ten of the suspects are asylum seekers, nine of whom arrived in Germany after September 2015.'

Not 3rd generation.
